    It's not just gay storylines that always end in tragedy. Mates, this is a soap opera. No one gets away unscathed, even the straights.

    I wish they never put Jackson in a wheelchair; I still love Aaronson but they really could have gone down another path.

      i so agree with you whitney. i even said that they could have just stopped with the car crash i mean at lease then jackson would have only had maybe some broken ribs and a concussion but he would have been fine but no they had to put some drama into their relationship i hate it when they do that. if they had went with my idea jackson would still be able to walk and he wouldn't be thinking about killing hisself and making aaron and his mom feel sad and like they can't do anything to help him. oh if i had written that script this would have been so diffrent. i would have had just the crash and then in the hospital aaron would have told jackson that he was sorry and that he loved him and he wanted it to work between them and once jackson was out of the hospital they go back to aaron's place and aaron helps jackson get better and once he's better they make up by making mad passionate love. thats how i would have done it but of course like i said these kind of shows always have to have drama.

      Yeah I agree with you; that would have been a better route. It was becoming really depressing watching this for months and then suicide happened with Aaron's arrest; it was too much doom and gloom.

    • @MsSherri13
      @MsSherri13 Před 10 lety +1

      Whitney McDonald you are so right. the is alot of doom and gloom. like you said first aaron tries to committee suicide because he couldn't cope with being gay and then jackson's accident and now jackson's talking about killing hisself it's just alot of doom and gloom. i love the parts where aaron and jackson are happy and in love i wish there was more of that then just like this it's just so sad to watch.

      @MsSherri13 Před 10 lety +1

      yeah me too. i think my favorite moment of jackson when he's in the wheel chair is when aaron has him spend the night over at his place, i thought that was so sweet of him, he knew they wouldn't be able to do anything he just wanted to be close to jackson again and even though it was just that one kiss and they were laying far apart it was a sweet moment between them but i wish that aaron had kissed jackson and put his arm around him as he was going to sleep that would have been so sweet.

    Oh I hate to see Jackson suffer, the Tears and Sorrow that comes from Aaron and Hazel is so emotional at the hospital.
    Jackson: I believed he knew something was wrong with him, just never wanted to say nothing to anyone..all these places that Jackson and Aaron are doing to go places must be the last moments they will spend time with each other. Jackson must want Aaron to remember the times they spent times together and put the past behind.

How many times does Jackson have to say that he doesn't want to be treated like a child before she gets that HE DOESN'T WANT TO BE TREATED LIKE A CHILD!?! How can Jackson ever believe that he can get respect as a mentally capable man and have a measure of independence from the rest of the world when he can't even get his own mother to respect his autonomy?

    @Demetri450 "This is not boring it's just tired and tragic.and twenty years too late." Now there's a recommendation! I agree it's not boring, and it's sort of those other things too. I keep thinking that Emmerdale is not a model that any other soap would want to imitate, but people tell me that slow-paced, realistic, depressing, well-acted, and asexual, are par for the course with British soaps. Fortunately, with the Internet & subtitles, this is by no means the only dish on the menu.

    And I know they need to give Jerry a break, but Hazel needs it too and Aaron and Jackson cos this is so hard. Totally realistic though. This is a very common thing. @alwaysuseless I had thought of that mother-son, apron strings dynamic. However, I reason that as the closest family member of a physically disabled person, she has a bird's eye view of his struggle to still be seen as capable and to be treated as a man. My experience with moms of disabled kids is that they consciously set the tone for how they expect their kids to be treated. Of course, the moms I meet have had 15 or more years to reach that point, so it's probably not a fair comparison...

    I don't know ... maybe I'm too used to Grey's Anatomy medical drama that made this seem a little off to me. I can't put my finger on it, but something was weird to me. I think the initial "emergency call" scene was awkward. I think mainly because of the large group of people so "concerned". I don't know, it just all seemed a tad corny. Nothing too serious thought. But I will say that I thought the hospital scenes were pretty good! Back to the drama! Love it!

  • @alwaysuseless

    @pedesan It´s normal for producers to try and get the best of each actor. Some other producers can´t do anything but think what colour of lipstick they are going to put on their cute actors lips...

  • @alwaysuseless
    @alwaysuseless Před 13 lety

    @pedesan Danny Miller is a talented and serious actor. And yes, he has shown himself to be better at crying convincingly than at kissing other guys. So the storyline does play, not coincidentally, to his strengths.

  • @alwaysuseless
    @alwaysuseless Před 13 lety

    @sanyrub @cyryac I think you both have valid points of view and need to cut each other some slack. Of course, no one asked me to butt in, so now you can both be mad at me. Anyway, Lucas/Edwin, while not quite as dedicated to realism, is beautifully performed and helps balance out the side effects from watching Aaron & Jackson. I'm a fan of both shows.

  • @alwaysuseless
    @alwaysuseless Před 13 lety

    @nyser1 I agree with your point. Hazel annoys me too. But let's face it, at least stereotypically mothers are not the best place for a son/daughter to look for respect for his or her autonomy. So you're sort of saying "when he can't even get" something from the person who might be the least inclined to give it, even if he were physically hale & hearty. However fair/unfair the stereotype may be, it fits Hazel to a tee. The problem, then, is that with his handicap Jackson can't get away from her.

When I find a boyfriend, I am never going to kiss him goodnite/goodbye, never gonna cuddle in bed with him, not gonna tell him I love him until its too late, and date another guy to finally realize the right guy was in front of me all along. And kissing guys is gross, so we are going to have a platonic relationship most of the time. Emmerdale taught me what real love is all about.

    @jarabaa Před 13 lety

    1.Yes, tetraplegia is a reality, and this is a highly realistic storyline. 2.It's also the story of a (very) young couple who were robbed of the possibility of sexual love almost instantly after meeting. 3.The acting is outstanding. 4.One may nonetheless ask why this uniquely tragic, bleak plotline was imposed on the one and only gay couple. 5.Suffering is not the only "reality". Romance, passion, sexual intimacy, the delight of being in love - these are also reaity. But rarely glimpsed here.

    Cheer up, gang! This may be the "turning point" we've grown too used to in American soaps. A twitch in Jackson's big toe or other barely useful body part will be caught by some visiting genius specialist who says he can cure the lad - IF he just moves wherever the doc's regular practice is. Jackson & Hazel will disappear from Emmerdale to be mentioned in passing just once a year on Boxing Day. One non-sexual, yet still passionate, REAL kiss between J & A would be nice before they go though!

    @sanyrub That is true! No girl and they both knew they were gay when they started the relationship. Usually one of them doesn't know he is gay until he meets the other one. The last time we saw any affection was the night of the sleepover at Aaron's. That is a long time. I feel like there were a lot times were they should have been some type of affection and we got squat. Very frustrating. I think it is just this soap because I have seen others(English, German and US) where it's not a issue.

    @ScottScott12345 I think Hazel is afraid that Jackson's getting sick, then recovering in the hospital, then getting sick again, etc., is going to depress Jackson even more and lead him to commit suicide.
    The truth is that, while Jackson may recover from this infection, some other illness down the line could kill him without his having to do it himself. The writers have a choice: let Jackson die from "natural" causes or by suicide. Or put him in another train wreck!

    @liabro @sanyrub Liabro, apparently you took my comment literally, when all I was trying to do was underscore how unintentionally HILARIOUS it was for anyone to say that they were sorry someone was being killed off but thankful at how well it was being done. Have you guys realized that this is the only gay storyline in which both guys are really GAY! I mean we almost don´t get to see them getting physical but at least they both are gay and no woman has interfered in the story, another new point I find in their favor. In all the other storylines I can remember now from other soaps there has always been the typical alibi girl or one of the guys was bisexual or he suddenly liked a girl or something. Never thought about it before.

    @sanyrub Před 13 lety

    @patroclus33 That´s cos we can clearly say specially Aaron didn´t love Jackson during the first part of the relationship. He was enjoying his first bf and also coping with his own shit too. He didn´t start to love J or realize it till some time after the crash. And J fell for Aaron despite him being a brat. I probably would have fallen for him too. He has something that attracts you. Of course now he is adorable, a new man. And yes between climaxes it gets a little repetitive but ED is like that

I am just way to attached to Jackson's character at this point to stop watching. And you are right, it did start off promising. Months later and minimal displays of affection, and we are still watching because they hooked us :(

    Aarson are rural, working-class & British. Apparently, that required them to be undemonstrative, even before the accident. Or was it merely their misfortune to be on early-evening TV?
    After Jackson's exit, Aaron will mourn, then find a new love. Presumably, the show will find a very different excuse to thwart any overt displays of true gay love. The acting will be superb, & the snarling among viewers will continue.
    Will I have the sense to stop watching? Probably not.

    Many of you love this story for its acting & realism or hate it because it's depressing & lacks sex or even physical affection. Some then snarl at the other camp through a chain-link fence called the Web. In the middle-ground, @liabro says it well: "I'm sad they're killing off Jackson but thankful that they're doing it well."
    Is this supposed to be black comedy? When the thugs of an anti-gay inquisition come for me, I'll be "sad they're killing" me "but thankful that they're doing it well."

    @patroclus33 Uh...you do realize this is a soap? Where do you think (seriously) the writers will take this story and how will it end? If they do actually kill off Jackson, as we're hearing, and if rumors about Danny's problem with male/male physicality are true, maybe they're killing off the wrong character. Keeping him on as a single 19-y-o gay boy who remains celibate in 2011 would be too much - even for a soap. BTW, it wouldn't be the pigs' FIRST flight, actually.

    so they're about to off Jackson story on the show?! or they will take-off the gay storyline of the show? such a shame... i bet there's lot of viewer who love the show because of the two rather than the boring straight storyline of the show...

    @art03nw Lots of American tv shows are gold but not the soaps. British soaps are the best. I don´t even consider them soaps. ATWT was really really awful and pure crap. When Reid appeared it was like wow at last something good. He was the best on the show, his lines the only thing the writers did good. And also you are right I´m refering to gay storylines basically

    @cyryac See? u really don´t get it. But go and leave. I prefer to stay and watch some real talent. There´s a huge lack of it in nowadays showbusiness world!

    @liabro Gee, I hadn't quite thought of it in that way until your comment. They ARE killing off half the gay population of Emmerdale, aren't they? Is this where Aaron disappears for an indefinite period to mourn Jackson, too? Is there supposed to be a new love interest for Aaron anytime soon? Otherwise, how do you write for a 19-y-o gay hermit? Is Hazel leaving as well? She's a great character and a fine actress.
