I live in the United States and we do an unconventional calendar as well. We do sabbath scheduling (6 week school, 1 week break) starting in first full week of January. We get 1/2 year done and take a full month off in June for vacations then we resume school the first full week in July and continue sabbath scheduling until the week of Thanksgiving and take that week off and all of December off for holidays.

We used Times Tales at the end of grade 3. My son learned all of them in 2 days 😮 6 weeks later he still remembers all of them! Best $24 dollars spent this year 🙌

I love the way you say literature. :)
It is CRAZY this year is halfway over. We are in the states so we are finishing up our school year, but I can hardly believe the calendar year is nearly halfway over. Time is FLYING by faster than it ever has before in my life. It truly is crazy.

Musical multiplication from Good and Beautiful worked really well for my daughter for the tricky times tables she struggled with (she's an auditory learner.) There's a catchy little song for each fact. I only had her learn the songs to the tricky ones. I think you can download the songs to your phone so no expense with shipping either. 😊

Your studio is just beautiful! I love the contrast between your lovely paintings and the white walls and post. If you are willing to share any before/after of the other rooms you have been working so hard on, I’d love to see them. 😊 It’s always motivating and gives fresh ideas to see what others have been able to do with a space, especially when on a real budget.
Congrats on your school year going so well! We homeschool year around, and more heavily during the steamy Florida summer than at any other point of the year. So we’re currently doubling down (but leaving room for fun and a few summer camps), while most of our friends are now on summer break. It worked out really well last year, and I’m excited to see our progress at the end of the summer.

I have started Math U See with all four of my kids and I absolutely love it. I have never loved a curriculum more in all my 11 going on 12 years of homeschooling. I only WISH I had started this with all my kids from Primer. Talk about a SOLID foundation of math. SO much math frustration comes from not getting the concepts mastered incrementally and then the child has a bunch of holes in their math foundation and when they hit higher maths, they crumble.
My oldest (finishing 8th) crumbled this year. Math has always been a struggle for her but hitting fractions, decimals and percents was the point of the crash. I decided to redeem math for her and start her at Math U See Alpha. I know, seems drastic, but I knew she had major holes and I didn't want to leave anything undone, so we started at the very beginning and the zoomed through Alpha & Beta but, let me tell you, there was still concepts she learned better having done Alpha and Beta. Gamma (mul) is where most of her holes were and we are nearly finished with Gamma and will do Delta this summer before Epsilon (fractions) in the fall.
There have been AMAZING results. The structure and style of Math U See lessons is SO easy to implement with four kids. I could go on and on. :) Check it out for solidifying basic math facts for your kids!

Nothing wrong with taking an earlier break!!! We bought in more fun and interesting schooling and we are loving it!!! I often get asked for a Narnia book re read and it’s awesome!!! We are loving world languages as a family!!! I’m seeing different improvements in all my kids!!! I work with ppl from a lot of countries so my kids are friends with kids whose 1st languages isn’t English!!! It’s awesome that ur kids are reading better!!! Multiplication is difficult but we decided to re play the games in MWC for multiplication!!! Nothing wrong with using a supplement tho!!! My older kids will play the MWC games with my younger kids!!! I l love extra wiggle room in homeschooling!!! We are used to travelling and we love travelling!!!

We also switched to sequential spelling after your recommendation (but books). I’ve been looking for a program like that for ages for my middle one.

Is there a video about sequential spelling? I've been looking into info about it and can't find which video has it.

@@Noeysearles there is a mention of it a couple of times, I love the books method, we tried the online it didn’t work for my son as pronunciation of words isn’t very clear and the audio has poor quality recording. For a dyslexic child who struggles differentiating sounds in words it was not a good fit. There is half an hour archaic video somewhere on CZcams on how to use the books programme (the video is by the programme creator) I adapted the way we use it for my teaching style and my son’s needs. We don’t do different coloured pens as it was really causing a lot of frustration.

@@SydneynewbornphotosAuvp aaaah ok. I think I was looking for one she made specifically about it. 😂
Thank you! I'm glad to hear it works well for you.

I love watching your content! Your videos are such a beautiful blend of peaceful and feeling validated in the real life-ness of being a mom.
We are currently experimenting with Sonlight. I am on the fence still how I feel about it at just about one week in. The read alouds and just reading from books in general to my kids I am loving! Not sold on the curriculum portion of science or HBL. A couple questions about read alouds: 1. Do you ask your children the questions from the curriculum for the read aloud books? 2. Do you closely follow their read aloud schedule? I am realizing many books are part of a series and we tend to want to continue a series rather than read the next book on the schedule. (But that also means not having curriculum questions along with the book, hence the first question.)

      @ThisHomeschoolHouse  Před 20 dny

I do tend to ask the questions for the read alouds as it's a good motivator for my kids to stay focused so they can answer the questions.
I also follow the schedule as it is. If we want to continue with a series I often purchase those books for my kid's birthdays and such. :)

New subscriber here so I might not know everything. I know you do Al about reading. Did all about spelling not work for you?

I’m not currently using All About Reading. I used the first level with my son and it was great. We also used the first level of their spelling and that worked great too. ☺️ He’s currently using Sequential Spelling as it’s online and he can do it independently.
