I heard something the other day from a working out of the home homeschool mama. She made such a great pointâŠfind out your childâs teaching styleâŠevery child learns differently and until you know how they learn, you simply cannot just pick a curriculum and expect it to magically work. Watching other moms on YT is simply getting an idea of what each curriculum is and itâs our job to tailor your HS based on each childâs specific needs. Thatâs first and imperative.
Yes, it does make a big difference. It will also help you to adapt curriculums to work better for your child. âșïž
As an American, I love how you say âAbekaâ đ
We tried 100 EL and Abeka and my 4.5 yo was overwhelmed by the busy pages. We tried JADY Aâs Elemental Phonics because it is sooo simple and plain. We are almost done with the first book and my baby is so proud of herself. I really recommend it!
That's great! I haven't heard of that program before. :)
I just found your channel and I am loving your content! This video is so helpful!
Thanks for this. Very helpful
You're welcome!
Please!! Can you do one of these for History and Science curriculums you recommend? Not sure what to do with my 1st Grader :/
Noted. :)
I second this! Thank you in advance
I love CLE for their reading program, as well as their math.
Iâve heard good things about CLE!
Me too! I use both of those as well as their language arts.
Thank you for sharing! Have you ever heard of Pride reading program it uses a similar approach as all about reading.
I think my 9 year old have some dyslexia tendencies he hasnât been diagnosed so not quite sure. But so far of what I noticed sometimes he struggles with pronouncing words and mixes up certain lettters. We been doing TGTB and he is doing well with the workbook but when it comes to the booster cards it takes us a while.
So I been looking into programs more design for kids that might struggle with reading and more of an approach towards dyslexia.
I haven't heard of that program. It does sound like a program specifically designed for dyslexia would be a good fit.
This is great. Thank you!!! What do you use for spelling and at what age did you start including spelling + reading?
Weâre using Sequential Spelling. I think around age 8 is a good time to start. âșïž
Hi. Was there a time when any of your kids when they were a toddler 4-5 were not interested in Read-a-Louds? I bought Sonlight but I'm afraid he won't be paying attention to them as much as I want to. We started 2 weeks ago and he's really not paying attention. There will be few seconds of listening but I know he's not into it and just forcing himself because I begin to be frustrated. I try to make it fun and looks like a play. I saw your daughter and she was very still and just sitting down quietly regardless if she understands the entire story or not. At least she will get something out of it. But my son is just totally all over the place. Tonight he even was pretending to sleep. Is this just that a phase? Or is it because he's a boy and doesn't sit still?
Every kid is different for sure. âșïž I would still do some reading each day but perhaps not as much. Build up to it slowly. I would also suggest having something for you son to do with his hands while you read. Playdoh or colouring are both great options!
Heâs so young. Iâve studied a lot of HS curricula and learning styles. Children typically just are not ready to formally learn until around six years old. With that said, focus on play based learning and donât force anything at this age. You donât want to squash his natural love of learning and exploring â€
Dumb questionâŠ. What is a cover school? Iâm in NC and pulling my kids out of public school to homeschool next year and I havenât heard of this before.
I'm not sure either. Perhaps my accent has led to some confusion. đ
Iâm so sorry! I was streaming my CZcams videos on my tv and apparently I commented on the wrong video. đ€ŠđŒââïž but while Iâm here⊠love love love your channel! â€â€â€
Just curious (not accusatory), when AAR wasnt working for your daughter, is there a reason you went to Abeka instead of going back to TGATB? Thanks!
I prefer the mastery approach that Abeka has. âșïž
Have you used sonlights LA?
No. We only use their HBL and Science.
