  • In today’s video, I detailed the modifications to close the gap in power and performance between a 5.7 L hemi and a hellcat. (6.2L Supercharged HEMI). I not only include modifications to be on par with a hellcat, but I include modifications that can set you ahead of a hellcat. With the modifications listed in this video 700, 800, and 900+ rear wheel horsepower is very obtainable. I not only include modifications to increase power, but I include modifications to improve ETs overall. The rundown of modifications that I have given has been proven by many people in 5.7L HEMI powered vehicles.
    This video applies to:
    Dodge Ram Trucks
    Dodge Durango
    Dodge Magnum
    Jeep Grand Cherokee
    Chrysler 300
    Dodge Charger
    Jeep Commander
    Chrysler Aspen
    Dodge Challenger
    And Jeep Wagoneer
    (Along with any resto mod or swapped vehicle with a 5.7L HEMI. This applies to 2003-2008 Pre-Eagle and 2009-Present Eagle motors!)
    In this video i mentioned and/or discussed the modifications listed below:
    Forced induction (Superchargers & Turbochargers)
    Forged rotating assemblies
    Long tube headers
    A camshaft swap
    Head work
    A torque converter (Higher stall)
    Flex fuel/E85
    A LSD (Limited Slip Differential)
    1-piece driveshaft
    Transmission work (Valve Body & Built Trans)
    A thermostat
    Wheels & Tires
    Suspension
    Launch control
    Larger throttle body
    Swapping pulleys
    Tuning
    An intake manifold
    Fuel pump
    Fuel injectors
    Nitrous

    I'll give you my formula to my current build. 5.7 based 396 stroker (fully forged), cam, mmx ported heads and ported 6.1 manifold, all arp hardware, ported throttle body (fastman hemi), built torque converter and valvebody (ding racing), fore dual pump setup, southern hotrod nag1 trans, longtube headers, procharger d1sc, and FIC injectors. 630whp de-tuned due to fueling. Need bigger injectors and return style fuel system upgrade to maximize the build. 3 years and about $20k ish with aesthetic mods included

    Hey man, I've got a question I hoped you could shed some light on. I've got a 2017 AWD 5.7 Hemi Pursuit and I was wondering if I need the LSD when I'm already AWD? I've heard both yes and no so I'm still pretty lost. Vids are great man keep it up!

    • @Underdogbuilds
      @Underdogbuilds  Před 7 měsíci

      Hey man! A Limited slip differential is not an issue, but since it is AWD, you need to stay with the same gear ratio. Otherwise you would also have to change the front and update the computer. This can also get very pricey, some people have reported costs of up to $5,000+. If it’s going to be a fully built track dedicated dig monster that you’re trying to build, I’d say that’s awesome! If it’s more so a daily driver that sees play time, I would spend my money elsewhere. You could most definitely take the car a lot further spending that $5,000+ elsewhere. I hope I could help! And thank you very much man, I appreciate you! Thank you for tuning in and taking the time to watch my content 🫱🏻‍🫲🏼🙏 I hope you have a great day!

    Would a 180° thermostat be good as a first purchase aside from an intake and headers?

    • @Underdogbuilds
      @Underdogbuilds  Před 7 měsíci

      Depending on application. If this vehicle is driven in a cold climate I would advise against a 180° thermostat; however, many people will drive through winter with a 190° thermostat. If it put up for the winter or it doesn’t see a cold season, then a 180° thermostat will definitely be an improvement. My thermostat keeps me between 180° and 190°, it always drops me back in this range and never drops back below operating temp. I really enjoy the thermostat and it definitely combats that heat soak due to high RPM operation. Many mechanics and technicians advise against the 180° thermostat If the vehicle is daily driven. A 190° thermostat may suit your need better while still keeping temps down in comparison to the stock thermostat. I hope I was able to help. Thank you for tuning in and have a great day!

    Hey, new car enthusiast here, I currently run a 2010 Chrysler 300 HEMI. The only “mods” I have on it is some long tube headers I’m about to install and a duckbill spoiler my wife got me for Christmas 😂. What would you recommend as the next thing I do? I ask because you also seem to be running a Chrysler.

    • @Underdogbuilds
      @Underdogbuilds  Před 7 měsíci +1

      Before I make a recommendation I should ask what your goals are 😄 are you looking to daily drive this car or have it be more so of a sunny day car? Where would you like to be setting power wise? What type of budget are you working with? And how patient are you in the building process? 🙂 these questions are key when talking about building any vehicle. I appreciate you tuning in very much man! Hopefully I can help you out and steer you in a direction that makes you happy!

Definitely not setting records or anything, but nobody is gonna look at my grandpa mobile and expect it to send most sports cars to gapplebee’s. It will also be my daily which I why i will at some point be either turbocharging or supercharging it because it’s gonna help with the gas mileage 😂. I plan on at least making a dent towards those kinds of power numbers by this time next year. While fairly inexperienced, I have a set tools and no issue ripping apart an engine. That should hopefully help with the cost of things.

      Very true! I’m just a very “paranoid” guy when it comes to motors, haha. Especially running E to manage detonation, I definitely agree with ya! I like to play it safe (I’m sure I’ll move out of this phase eventually and say f*** it, it’ll be fine!😂)
      I’ll be throwing that blower at the car this season now that I’ve gotten things back on track! I’m very excited to be setting around 500rwhp from that blower, a tune, and the headers. Then I’ll worry about the rest after😃

    Financially, it is not practical to build a 5.7L engine to run Hellcat power versus just buying a Hellcat. First you will never get your money back on the 5.7L build. Dealerships won't give you much at all if you trade it in...if they actually take it at all. Buying a Hellcat is an investment that will provide excellent trade-in value or straight resell to a buyer. 20-30 years from now you may get close to sticker. Most people want the badge with the power. Even Scats are retaining a ton of value. Doing your own build is fun, especially if you are doing the work yourself. Paying labor for all these mods to a 5.7L will quickly get you in to the $15 to $20k in labor alone. You will never get that money back.

    • @Underdogbuilds
      @Underdogbuilds  Před 6 měsíci

      I agree; however, if you find a 300C for cheap and build it, you could find yourself at 1000HP thousands of dollars before you’d find yourself in a hellcat. It most definitely depends on the situation. If you don’t plan on keeping the car for life, I don’t recommend building a 5.7.. at least to the extent that I spoke about in the video. (I see way too many built cars on FB marketplace and it’s insane seeing how little they receive vs. what they put in). A hellcat is a much more solid investment if you’d like a fun daily, a street/strip car, or just that 707HP+ without having to do too much work. They also retain value amazingly as you said. Especially with Dodge doing away with the V8’s, they’ll be sky rocketing in value. THATS very true. Doing your own build is amazingly fun, if you don’t plan to do the work though, I’d recommend avoiding it. Labor costs can double or triple the cost of your build and leave you very unhappy. I plan on doing most of the labor myself, possibly all of it. (That’ll depend on my experience and thoughts at the time of doing the rotating assembly, I do not want to screw that up, haha.) Many people tend to ask me how they can reliably make hellcat power out of a 5.7L HEMI powered car so I produced the answer 😄 it’s not the most cost effective or practical, but many of these folks are determined to build that ol 345 HEMI. I appreciate you for tuning in man, Have a great day!

      @@Underdogbuilds A 5.7L Hemi build would be fun as a side project. A 300C just is not my body style. I have seen some great Charger builds with cool aero and hood, but I am not in to having a 4 door as my muscle car. The 2015-2023 Challenger body is my style. My Scat is perfect for street and I beat Hellcats off the line because they have a hard time hooking. There are lot of used Hellcats around for sale and I have debated getting one but I really have not outgrown my Scat.
