The ROG STRIX B650E-E Gaming WiFi is not only good, but also in many ways a better choice than its more expensive X670E variant.
It retains all its most important features and removes a solid 100 bucks (+) on its price tag!
ASUS redeems itself towards mid-budget gamers in a big way!

Oh my word, your delivery is absolutely fantastic and very informative! I ended up shelling out the extra $40 for this board over the gigabytes version as this seems like a $500+ board. Love the in depth review and so happy I won’t have to be getting a new mobo for at least 5 years!
Your presentation and coverage is excellent! All my questions and more answered. Loved it.
We need more videos like that. Thank you
Just got this one for my son. Thanks for the review.
Love your reviews! Great info every time. Now I just need to decide what I’m going to go with for my next build.
Great overview! There were some insane combo deals with this board a couple weeks back. My brother is building a new system and got a deal from Microcenter that included this, a 7900X and 64GB of RAM for a whopping $600. That's insane value. We were putting the system together tonight and were pretty impressed by the mobo's features as well.
I picked up this board with the Ryzen 9 7900X and 32gb of ram from Micro Center at $599. For my first ever build. My friends kept telling me it was a great deal. So far I’m really enjoying it. Glad someone reviewed the board, I was having a hard time finding videos on this. Thank you!
Everything togother for $599? What a steal
Thanks for putting this out there my dude!!! Its actually not that board is the F gaming but still a steal
LMAO Just the CPU itself! 7900x here in my country almost cost 599 usd
Love your reviews! They help me make wise decisions!
Thanks for your work and efforts to bring this kind of stuff to us, viewers! 👍
Thanks a lot, man. This is the only deep dive review of this board I found and, as already said by other commenters, this is the sweetest spot for ryzen 7000. X670E is too much of an overkill and too expensive for almost nothing in difference. We'll know if the low powered VRMs in the B650E-E will make any difference only in the next gen ryzens, but for Zen 4 it's totally overpowered. Thanks again!
Excellent video. I was originally thinking to go for the Asus X670E - F series motherboard but this review of the B650E - E completely made me rethink what I needed! The B650E - E series will offer everything I need and beyond and provides me with a better value solution. Thank you :)
Awesome video and super informational ! I was 95% sold on this board but now I can’t wait to pick it up and build with it
your video is very informative, thanks!
Dude I love your energy so much it makes me want to hug you XD
Best future proof PCIE5 GPU & M.2 slot budget option! Thanks for re-verifying the data for me in great detail. I'm ready to purchase this with a R9 7950X + 64GB RAM. The only thing that I didn't catch you mentioning was the primary GPU slot sharing the 3rd M.2 (2nd PCIE 5.0 M.2) slot's PCIE 5.0 lanes so leave that slot open to prevent throttling to 8x. See page xi of the manual. "When M.2_3 is occupied with an SSD device, PCIEX16_1 will run x8 only." The best use case for this then is a single PCIE 5.0 GPU and primary PCIE 5.0 M.2.
They could easily cut out a lot of the extra slots at the bottom to save us a lot more money. Could also space components out a bit more. E.g. a NH-D15 wouldn't need to have the second fan raised above the RAM modules. Could also cut the board down to mini-ATX form factor (which I doubt I would use in a smaller case unless the case somehow could manage enough airflow and room for top end R9 CPUs and a top end GPU). eGPUs could get a major boost at anytime if the bus speed improves with the next iteration of say Thunderbolt 5 ports or an ePCIE type port or optical 100Gbps GBIC type slot until copper surpasses it).
Now we just need PCIE 5.0 products to be released! Waiting for 4.0 stock to be sold out is painful.
Excellent review as always Laurent, thanks !
I had just come to the same conclusion and then your video popped up. 😀 Asus has done a great job configuring the I/O options and PCIe lanes with the limited B650 chipset. The audio is also a great choice here. I was going to buy a Gigabyte board this time, but this boards config and superior audio clinches the deal for me. Thanks for the review!
Hi, which gigabyte motherboard are you going to buy?
You made me buy this board, waiting for it rn - will pair it with the new 7900X3D
A very detailed and informative video. Merci Laurent!
I'm glad you mentioned the VRM overkill on the X670 board comparison. This Strix board on a B-series is already more power delivery than any current AMD CPU in this socket can draw, even with ridiculous overclocking and excess voltages enabled, short of exotic setups like LN2 and bespoke OC specialists. Overall these components at this price point is pretty amazing given the pricing of most X670 series offers. At this price point, ASUS own TUF X670 and Gigabyte's Aorus Elite AX are also in the market.
The audio hardware, highly useable configuration of PCI slots for my peripheral needs, and excellent board quality and connectivity options made the choice among these three easy, without overspending on some ridiculous over engineered X670 monstrosity.
For DIY builds, don't underestimate the utility of getting a bios code display in this price class, either!
Amazing review
Great work! I liked your video :)
Having gone through a bunch of options from other companies, this board seems like a real winner. Got basically all the features, but on a B650E board, making it cheaper and often better than a lot of X670(E) boards. I don't know why there isn't more coverage of this board!
Asus not selling this board in my country
I cant decide between this or the asrock x670e steel legend, since they both cost about the same in my country.
B650 boards are flying under the radar in general.
I bought a x670e hero ngl, I am disappointed :( I am going to return it and get the b670e I just game rest of the features I don't even use :/ waste of £600 this board is half the price
@@thealien_ali3382 why did you even buy it if you don't use those features?
I loved this review... Because of this one I already made up my mind to purchase this MB.
Thank you for making this video. I guess its the only video on ROG Strix B650E-E motherboard.
And the only motherboard channel worth watching;)
@@Laurentschoice I wasn't sure either to go with Asus X670 or B650, but your videos surely helped me make the decision. I got this motherboard on Blackfriday. I cannot wait to build my new PC. Please do GPU videos aswell in future. Good luck!

Just back ordered mine from Newegg. I was very impressed by the configuration of this motherboard in this price range
I have one and been having problems with the I225V network adapter. Disables itself occasionally even though all the driver are up to date. Having to buy a separate pcie network card.
Glad I got this one
How is the intel ethernet 1225? Any disconnects?
Amazing content, just discovered your Channel and i will Watch your future videos !! I just bought this board after watching your review
Welcome aboard!
Power delivery should be solid enough to last through the rest of AM5 or at least close to the end of AM5. Has Gen 5 so if we end up having parts that use Gen 5 speeds then it is available. RAM speed limit would be the only thing that will be limited compared to future board but on DDR5, those faster speeds do not seem to make much of a difference. Unless you need tons of rear IO for some reason, the B550E-E is more than enough for most people and put you in an excellent position for future AM5 chips. Got one of these for those reasons.
I was pretty dead set on buying the Auros x670e master until I just watched this…I most likely have just changed my mind. I especially like the reset/bios button and it has the gen 5 lanes for “future proof” for what I need. The debug and gpu release button are just the candy on top. I followed your advice for the Msi x570 tomahawk motherboard and it’s served me extremely well. I think I’ll do the same here with the Asus b650e-e. Thanks for still doing these…
3:47 this. I have scoured the internet for this answer and haven’t found it until now. Thank you so much. So I CAN overclock a 7950x with this board.
checking your latest videos... this is the new best board 3 weeks running I guess 🙃
Was pretty decided to get the Strix X670E-E, but really this Strix B650E-E offers same features, same quality and is 100EUR less, so indeed the best choice !
Thanks Laurent !
Also wtf you do so much of the snappy thing I thought I was the only one that did that stuff. So much fun lol
Just bought this used locally for $100. He still had the original stock BIOS from late 2022 on it. Installed the latest without issue. Only issues is the voltages do seem to run higher then my three X670 Aorus Elite AX boards one of them with the same 7600X to compare against. I noticed this with my in BIOS temps hitting 63c with CPU voltage at 1.440v running stock settings. Also the CPU memory controller VDDIO was hanging around 1.38v w/ DRAM at 1.35v which seemed high for the MC not for DRAM. I have a negative CO of -30 and voltage stays no higher than 1.26 now and I manually set the MC to 1.2v. I likely wouldn't have noticed if it wasn't for the 63c in BIOS. Granted I was using only a Wraith Stealth for bench testing.
I bought a B650 Live Mixer from ASRock :-)
It's not here yet. Super excited. Chose that board over this one. (2x PCIe from the CPU - I need that)
Nice thorough review! It would be helpful to mention that if you populate M2_3 the primary gpu slot runs at x8.
Yes I started mentioning PCIe bifurcation:)
Thanks so much for contributing !!
This is a very good video. -- Also curses mine will never ever stop working! 11:40

@@JayzBeerz and which ones are nice?
Been running a B650e-f with the 7800x3d and no cpu splode either. Even after the Asus bios scare it essentially didn't affect the B650e.
I have been researching motherboards tirelessly for over a week in order to decide on one for my PC upgrade. I was comfortable sacrificing the PCIe 5 GPU slot, so I settled on a few options at the $290 price point. I was preparing to purchase either the X670 Aorus Elite AX or the MSI MPG B650 Edge. However, after looking more closely at this motherboard, I was blown away at the value. For only $60, I go from one 4.0 slot to TWO PCIe 5 GPU slots, post code and clear cmos, improved VRM, ASUS reliability, and optional second Gen 5 M.2. I just back ordered it from Newegg. Very excited about this motherboard!
What do you reccomend for someone looking for high end parts whos not on a budget? I get how some motherboards arent justified for its pricing as some more affordable options perform pretty much the same but im just trying to see whats the highest "luxury" motherboard if you will for the ryzen 9 7950x and ASUS ROG Strix RTX 4090. I'm just confused as going off the most expensive isnt always necessarily the better option as i looked at some of the specs for the "higher end" ASUS motherboards are are lower than some of its cheaper counter parts
@@milhousevanhouton5890 I have spent a lot of time researching these AM5 motherboards, but I am not an expert on this stuff. So, just want to make that clear.
A few points:
- I wouldn't even think about the VRM (power delivery to the CPU) since you are interested in a luxury board they will all be great.
- I don't feel qualified to judge the differences in audio quality. The audio codec is only useful if you don't own/plan to use a USB DAC for audio (that's what I do)
- Those with similar specs that I highlight likely differ slightly in their VRM power delivery, Rear I/O options, SATA ports, and/or looks. I'll let you judge between those aspects.
- PCIe gen 5 for the GPU is a useless feature now, but if you plan to keep this board for 3+ years you should see slight benefits having this feature for future GPUs.
If you are planning to replace the motherboard within that time, I would ignore PCIe gen 5 GPU altogether, and look at some of the great ~$290 options such as:
MSI MPG B650 Edge - $310
1 gen4 GPU
1 gen5 M.2 and 2 gen4 M.2
X670 AORUS Elite AX - $290
1 gen4 GPU
1 gen5 M.2 and 3 gen4 M.2
If you want a single PCIe gen 5 GPU slot:
ROG STRIX B650E-F GAMING WIFI - $300
1 gen5 GPU
1 gen5 M.2 and 2 gen4 M.2 (the 2nd gen4 erases your only expansion slot)
ASUS PRIME X670E-PRO - $350
1 gen5 GPU
1 gen5 M.2 and 2 gen4 M.2 - and the choice to activate 1 gen3 M.2 at the expense of 2 SATA ports
ROG STRIX X670E-A GAMING WIFI - $420
1 gen5 GPU
2 gen5 M.2 and 2 gen4 M.2
ROG STRIX X670E-F - $450
1 gen5 GPU
2 gen5 M.2 and 2 gen4 M.2
X670E AORUS MASTER - $500
1 gen5 GPU
2 gen5 M.2 and 2 gen4 M.2
Post Code
E-ATX size
If you want the option for dual PCIe gen 5 GPU slot:
(gen5 x8 being full gen4 bandwidth and x4 being 1/2 gen4 bandwidth)
ASUS B650E-E Gaming Wifi - $350 (My Choice)
2 gen5 GPU (x8/x4)
1 gen5 M.2 (w/ a 2nd gen5 if running GPU at x8 speed - which is still full gen4 bandwidth) and 2 gen4 M.2.
Post Code
MSI X670E Carbon WIFI - $480
2 gen5 GPU (x8/x8)
2 gen5 M.2 and 2 gen4 M.2
Post Code
ASUS ROG Strix X670E-E - $500
2 gen5 GPU (x8/x4)
3 gen5 M.2 slots and 1 gen4 M.2
Post code
ASUS ProArt X670E-CREATOR WIFI - $500
2 gen5 GPU (x8/x8)
2 gen5 M.2 and 2 gen4 M.2
10gb/s LAN
MSI X670E Ace $700
2 gen5 GPU (x8/x8), or 3 gen5 (x8/x8/x4)
1 gen5 M.2 and 3 gen4 M.2

@laurent , i realy love this review, this whants me to buy this MB. My old CPU (6700k) died last month, and now i wanna get a new PC. Its hard to decide for me if i should got Intel 13th Gen or AM5... In the end after a long decition process i will go for AM5, because upcomming support in x3d CPUs. It is realy hard for me to decide on a MB. The Strix B650E-E seems to be the "best" value. I would love to see a B650E comparion video (sorry MSI, no b650e) with the Strix, Gigabyte, ASRock (strange boards and pricing Steel Legend x670e cheaper then the b650e-e but less stuff on it)
This was the one board i had on my list originally. Then I looked at the Asus TUF Gaming X670E-Plus then i was curious about the X670E-E. After looking at them all I really think this one is best bang for the bucks. its only the overkill VRMs, the extra PCIe 5 storage slot and USB transfers on the X670E-E that doubles the price. so I think I have come full circle and seems to have all the features anyone could need. What does everyone else think? BTW great reviews Laurent :)
I've been using this board for about a month now, it's a great product. Boot times aren't 5 seconds yet, but I can live with 35 seconds.
35 second for the boot? Why does it take so long?
@@SirTE0 Perhaps training the RAM? It should be faster the next time around, though.
Great review as always. The main question now is would you choose this over the TUF GAMING X670E-PLUS WiFi ? Feels B650E has a lot of overlap with X670E
The B650E-E has 2 more VRMs at same 70 amps, more i/o features and (in my opinion) better features in general, at slightly hotter temps.
The B650E-F is worse then both boards I’m pretty sure with only 12+2 VRMs compared to the tuf’s 14+2 and the B650E-E’s 16+2 VRMs
top motherboard for money ..i never go for gamming stuff motherboard like asusu but this one rocks
Nice review! I also think B650e-e and B650e-f are the best motherboards that are not too expensive. With 7000 Ryzens, I think the key is running them cooler and lower the power consumption, so X670E's extreme overclocking potential is not really necessary. I feel that things like Q-code LED, PCIE5, excessive amounts of USB 3.2 Gen 2 ports won't be really useful.
duno.. iam in the decition process of buying a new RIG... the F has only 12+2 Vram, the E 16+2... could be a problem for CPUs in the future.. talking about 78003d, 880003d, 9800x3d, also AMD announced a 7950x3d.. so it could be an issue if you plan to use the MB for the whole lifecycle
@@aasimarGER I'm in the same boat as you. I'm thinking even further about Zen 5 and if the low powered boards will suffice to run them (I intend to keep this next board way after AM5 is dead btw). Everybody say they are already way overpowered, but that's for Zen 4 and the actual CPUs, I wonder what AMD will bring us the few next years on AM5.
Works for me I am the type of person that when I upgrade I usually end up buying a new computer so yeah, I will be considering this. When I have it I will use it until it ceased to function. XD.
@@aasimarGER There is a PCB walkthrough/analysis of the B650E-F on Buildzoids channel where he says that the VRM on it is more than enough for even a 7950X.

Please quickly glance over the manual before doing a review like this. According to it, populating the 2nd gen5 NVMe slot will make the 1st PCI-E gen5 slot max out at 8x. So, while it technically still is a gen 5 slot, it ends up support "only" gen4 x16 bandwith. Otherwise, great video showcasing the motherboard overall.
Guys, please note that one of the M.2 PCIe 5 shares the lanes with the main PCIe 16 slot. It is in the manual... the small print.
What happens if you put a PCIe 4 ssd into the PCIe slot?
I got this board in Europe for 390 Euro - 45 Euro Cashback - 25 Euro Cashback for writing a review. So for 320 Euro it is a very nice looking premium B650E board that has in some cases even more features than similarly priced x670 or x670E boards. My only complaint is that it could have had a bit more RGB though. Whats also nice is that in the Asus BIOS you can change the Precision Boost Overdrive mode to Enhanced and than change the thermal limit from 95 C to 80 C. This allowed much cooler and quieter operating temperatures at the same clock speeds as default.
where did you buy it ? 25 € for review would be nice to use :) thx bro
@@xFLIXEN keep an eye on Galaxus I just got a like new one for 307 EUR
Try to run a Crystaldisk benchmark on SATA SSDs/HDDs and you will be shocked. The maximum speed you can reach is 40% less than it should be: a common Crucial MX500 2TB/4TB can't reach 540MB/s as it does on all other motherboard but it's limited to 399MB/s. And fast HDDs (like Seagate ones 10+TB) have a maximum speed of 160MB/s instead of 250-280MB/s. This motherboard is a scam! (I'm one of the unlucky owners)
Just discovered your channel by googling reviews for this interesting board. Awesome video! I'm having a bit a trouble wrapping my head around the pcie 5.0 lanes. I guess my bottom line question is this: will I be able to run BOTH a pice 5.0 graphics card at the same time as ONE pcie 5.0 M.2 drive? The use case seems pretty obvious, but hard to clarify: I'd want my operating system M.2 drive to be a kick ass pcie 5.0 drive WITHOUT sacrificing a next gen 5.0 graphics card (single card config). Merci!

Great review but you didn't speak about the big limitation on the second M.2 5.0 slot : "When M.2_3 is occupied with an SSD device, PCIEX16_1 will run x8 only." (hidden in the manuel)
BIG limitation you say? Are you kidding or what? First of all a 8X PCIEX 5.0 has the same bandwidth of a 16X PCIEX 4.0 (a RTX4090 can't even reach this limit) so no differences in the real world (not even a RTX5080, in fall 2024, will require a 16X PCIEX 5.0 so this MB will be the "top of the world" till at least 2026). Second noone needs two NVME 5.0: the best configuration will be a 1TB NVME 5.0 for the OS (and productivity software, like Adobe suite) and a 2TB NVME 4.0 for most demanding games. Then you can use the 4 SATAs to connect old HDDs (I currently have three HDDs, 8TB/10TB/12TB) for pure storage. In conclusion: this Asus Strix B650E-E is THE motherboard for the next 6-8years.
@@SirTE0 Similarly priced Gigabyte B650E allows for all 4 M.2's to run at Gen 5 speed for the PCIe 5.0 x8 tradeoff. And all the tradeoffs are mentioned in the specs on their website, you don't have to browse the manual.

Don't know if you remember but a few videos ago I asked you to review the new AM5 Strix boards. Since then I grew impatient and also came upon a good deal (250€ before tax which I didn't have to pay) for this particular motherboard and went ahead and got it together with a 7700X (I promise to get a beefier CPU later down the line to do this board a justice :P) and I'm really happy you like the board as well. Does any of the m2 slots shares bandwidth with anything? According to the specs no, but I want to make sure that if all M2 slots are full, the bottom pcie slot still can be used for a x1 expansion card (unlike on the B350E-F).
Please Review the ASUS Strix X670E-A white motherboard & compare it to the X670E-E black
Hello! Wonderful video :) subbed right away!
I currently am waiting to build a ryzen 7000x3d motherboard when it comes out, and am currently torn between this (strix b650e-e) and the msi b650 carbon.
This board is more expensive but has more features (postal code, more usb ports, pcie gen 5, 8 layer pcb), while the msi b650 carbon has the better vrm (16 + 2 + 1 with 80A) and overclocking capability (as they say).
What are your opinions on the two? Or should I just go for the X670E carbon?
Btw, I have an all msi build (AIO, graphics, psu), and am quite OCD on this, but this motherboard seems so desirable that I am willing to forgo the all msi!
I am facing the same dilemma
I was in the same dilemma but decided to go with the Strix since it has a slightly better audio solution (same codec, but more capacitors and software "bells and whistles") and is also cheaper where I live. The MSI has 2 more SATA though, and that's a plus for me, but eh... We can't have everything, right? Haha
This man knows how to sell.
I might be wrong but, I think the Type C header on this board is actually a 3.2 Gen 2 rated at 10 gb/s
Hello
It is a dual channel heater. So 10 gbs x 2 :)
Do we know anything about next gen AM5 CPUs and their power demands? Will that motherboard be enough?
Hello, everyone ! 🌞😉👍
I really like this Fatherboard !
I'm thinking of future-proofing on future cpu generation upgrade was wondering if I should go with this or a X670 motherboard
This or the b650 aorus master? and why? Please help me with the choice...
The E-E dual channels Michael Jacksons E-E.
Imma let meself out. Good day, Sir.
Should i pair it with a 7 7800x3d or would it be a waste
Do video on b650e aorus master
4:09 shame that they didn't make the io cover a part of the vrm heatsink. The plastic io cover really cheapens the board and makes it feel like the board comes straight out of 2019
Laurent, can you test the ROG STRIX B650E-I Gaming ITX WIFI - Board, please?
Possible to review b650m aorus elite ax micro atx from gigabyte? Seems ok for it’s price point and for what is offered at 200. Seems like not enough cheaper am5 micro atx boards not reviewed so would love to know your input.
I have this board. The LED light up feature is poorly designed as it will be blocked by the rear exhaust fan... They should have opted to a vertical design instead of the diagonal one. The ARGB headers also doesn't seem to go hand in hand with the ARGB fans connectors. It is so damn loose! I don't know if all ARGB headers are like this but if I daisy chain the Mobius fans, it fits nicely and tight. But if I attach the fans to the ARGB headers, holy sh!t! Its a pain in the a$$!!
Hi Laurent if i use a gen4 m.2 ssd in the second pcie 5.0 slot will my main gpu slot drop to x8?
The F is better value and would suit 95% of the people who would buy the E
Thanks for another great video. You have become a go-to-source for motherboard reviews. I have been hoping this would make it to your desk. If you have a minute, here is a question for you. TUF Gaming X670E Plus WIFI or this? Only $20 separates the two motherboards.
Thanks Bill, appreciate the kind words !
Hmmmm.... frankly talking , I think that the STRIX B650E bests the TUF X670E everywhere and on every single metrics.
@@Laurentschoice I just the bought B650e motherboard and something that is missing on your video and this TUF x670E has; The full bandwith of 4 NVME + PCIe x16. While it's great to have 2 PCIe 5.0 NVME it just make it worse by making the GPU half the bandwith, most people won't notice/care but seeing reviews up to 20fps difference on high fps and building a near top system it just doesn't make sense for me unfortunately.
@@Buscatrucosare you saying that the TUF board allows for more overall throughput via pcie5 ? I’m deciding between TUF 670e and STRIX 650e.
@@tapiatitan92 If you mean the X670E yes, the TUF has more bandwith pcie5 due to being the X670E chipset instead of the B650E. I ended up keeping the board anyway since the overall components are better and will just buy a PCIe adapter for my 4th NVME using the PCIe 4.0 x16 at the bottom of the board.
@@Buscatrucos thanks. I’m leaning TUF 670e , would you say it’s the better value now and down the road?
Hi Laurent, what's the difference between this and the "-F" variant? I can't seem to find the answer sorry
Please include the bios
Is the x670e-a worth getting?
Is the asus 650e-f a much worse board then the 650e-e one? Was gonna purchase the F one Bea use it's cheaper and pair it with an 7800x3d and perhaps a 4080super or a 7900gre haven't decided yet.
