Picard is likely one of the only beings in the entire universe of Star Trek to have drawn something on a warp core breach explosion cloud. Definitely something he can brag and joke about.
I want to see the broken hull of the Enterprise with a : ) punched out the side of it (since Picard compressed/concentrated the expanding cloud by drawing in it)
A gold onesie most likely , ,lesser crew were given recycled onesies from the first 3 seasons , , , personally I prefer the onesie , , ,and some random crew-men were still wearing the Starfleet one-piece Skort , 😂 🤣😸👍👍
I believe that considering the horrors he's been through and the psychological trauma he endured, he is the sanest man on starfleet. I think any one else would have lost it after a second encounter with Q..
When I was barely a toddler, my Dad used to watch Next Generation, and I with him. In my mind, I always had the impression that Picard was a no-nonsense type who NEVER smiled or laughed. 10 years later, my Dad tunes into this episode, and for the first time, I see Picard chuckling and making a smiley face. You can imagine how surprising (and maybe unsettling) this was, like watching Batman laugh.
Personally I think the scene near the end of Parallels was scarier where the Alternate Enterprise #1 managed to hail Alternate Enterprise #2 in which the Second one was from a universe where the Federation was gone and the Borg is everywhere in the universe they came from. Really scary considering that the prime universe (which the show usually follows) nearly met that same fate.
The scene that frightened me was when Picard suffered a shock of some kind and his finger nails grew unusally long (due to the accelerated passage of time). Very creepy episode.
This was the last time I cried out of sheer terror. I was 11 years old and completely lost it for about an hour watching this episode. There is something just so perfectly off about this scene, and the :) in the warp breach just puts it over the top. Patrick Stewart is a phenomenal actor, i don't know what note he was playing on but this one but I remember this well.
I reacted exactly the same way as Picard when i once drew the same smiley face in some mud with my finger but then realised the mud was actually poo...
Even without temporal narcosis, this is what would happen if Patrick Stewart were actually a Starfleet captain. This and far, far more. It would be glorious.
***** : There was a problem with Picard's gadget that protected him from the timeline (I forgot what it was called-not like it matters). It would have affected Troi as well (probably Data too) but his just failed first.
+Jacques Dufrene Yeah! First we can bypass Data's normal subroutines with technobabble, thus allowing him to use his Android super reflexes and speed to run around the ships decks back and forth like Speedy Gonzales. Make it so Captain Picard, and give the android a sombrero while at it.
This scene really was such a mind flip. For a moment, I didn’t know wha show I was watching,or even what universe I was in. Somebody was on psychedelics when they wrote this.
I think tripping balls is just a way of excentuating how much you are under the influence of a hallucinagen, or some other type of drug. The balls parts is more fallic than funny.
This is my favorite episode of TNG. When I was a kid, this scene scared the crap out of me - to see the captain, a pillar of strength and leadership, be consumed with madness, drawing a smiley face in an explosion cloud was so surreal, and downright scary.
One of my favorite scenes in TNG...ever. Only thing I have to wonder, is how Picard's finger didn't get burned off or at least boiled to the bone when he drew the smiley face? Maybe because time is slowed down the radiation burns slower? And this event is why they invented jettisonable warp cores.
Technically the Enterprise-D had a core ejection system, it just never, ever worked. Watch "Cause and Effect"---Geordi tries to eject the core but the ejection systems are "offline".
@@blppt Yeah, and I've always found that ridiculous. The warp core ejection system is the ONE thing that should never, ever, ever fail, and yet it fails every single time.
It's the equivalent of Nitrogen Narcosis but for time. People act strangely, almost drunk, as their brain becomes affected and then they have seizures and can die.
HawkGTboy Not necessarily flimsy, just using plastic instead of glass. Plastic windows are by nature quite flexible. From production photographs, the permanent sets seem to have very robust wooden skeletons. They were made to last eight years, after all.
+HawkGTboy Given that people regularly get thrown out of their chairs and several feet through the air every time something hits the outside of the ship, you would want flexible plastic windows
Ehhh, you have to remember, this was made for broadcast standard def television. You probably never would have noticed it on your old tube TV. Like those old TOS episodes when remastered show the obvious stunt doubles quite clearly.
I was just watching Voyager, S07E05 (the one where the EMH gets kidnapped to work in this alien hospital where their super industrial society's elite workers get great treatment at the expense of letting low level workers die), and at the start someone gets wheeled in suffering from "temporal narcosis delirium". This suggests the same sort of technology was being used, in some fashion, by that society. Just putting this here because it fascinated a nerd like me and it may fascinate you other nerds... You _nerds!_ 🖖😁
hey if you're facing impending doom by super slow warp-core breach, have some fun with it. If a man doesnt break a little stress every now and then he'll lose the last of his sanity
I would do the same thing. There are so many things I would want to do in frozen time, that would be one thing. Another would be to draw on everyone's face.
I never understood how that smiley face has appeared on the cloud and Picard's entire reaction. I needed to see this clip and to read the comments in order to solve the mystery. 😅

I bet Q did too
OBV10U3_NINJA Perhaps. :)
Hirobian :)))) xD
Q would have drawn boobs.
SirCraigius or a penis
Imagine they didn't save the day and the last thing some goldshirt sees is a smiling cloud from a warp core breach.
XD

The way he pauses laughing and points proudly at his artwork without saying anything...that cracked me up back then, and still does.
I believe that considering the horrors he's been through and the psychological trauma he endured, he is the sanest man on starfleet. I think any one else would have lost it after a second encounter with Q..
I was laughing as hard as Picard was, this show is pure genius...
"It's a warp core breach!!! And it's happy to see us!"
:D
1:27 Picard’s reaction after seeing episode 1 of Star Trek Picard.
I'm glad to see that smiley faces like that survive until the 24th century.
Also this is brilliant acting from Patrick Stewart. Love this episode.
Some parts of humanity are just ingrained no matter how smart we get. We're really just monkeys who forgot our tails.
When Patrick decides to play a part, he commits to it.
Even when the writers clearly fell asleep at their keyboards.
Smiley face will exist as long as humans do, because it’s so simple to draw and easy to interpret (pareidolia)

The Killing Joke
Growing up watching TNG with my parents, this was my favorite scene as a kid. It cracked me up every time.
While he was going "nooooo!" he was totally keeping himself from laughing out loud.
haha, I thought the same thing.
Try watching him trip out in Lifeforce, same thing happens.
This scene actually terrified me as a kid
It's pretty creepy if you're watching the full episode.

The laugh itself is really creepy. Sounds more like something put if a villain than picard
As Picard is screaming hysterically:
Troy: "I believe I'm sensing great turmoil and fear.... but I'm not sure."
Literally though lmao
Perhaps the Captain should transfer to a transport ship, there's a lot less pressure there.
"Will, I sense how upset you are - you're angry and impatient" 💀
To be honest... I would’ve drawn a smiley face even if I wasn’t going crazy. Because... humour!
0:56 Just your friendly Gas cloud :)
They have a very big (Pot-) Bong, its filling entire Secondary-Hull - excluding the neck )
...But watch out, because that's no ordinary gas cloud!
I reacted exactly the same way as Picard when i once drew the same smiley face in some mud with my finger but then realised the mud was actually poo...
LOLOLOL!!!
That's when it changed to 1:25, right?
The twist: it was Romulan poo
Data, the supposedly emotionless android reacts the most here...
He'd been working on his human-like facial muscle reactions for quite some time at this point.
Is this one of those happy little clouds, Bob Ross was always talking about? 😜
This just demonstrates Patrick Stewart's unbeatable acting skills.
Even without temporal narcosis, this is what would happen if Patrick Stewart were actually a Starfleet captain. This and far, far more. It would be glorious.
+Christopher Luther how come Troi and Data weren't as affected by the narcosis? Is it because he's an android and she's half Betazoid?
*****
: There was a problem with Picard's gadget that protected him from the timeline (I forgot what it was called-not like it matters). It would have affected Troi as well (probably Data too) but his just failed first.
If you can draw faces onto the explosion, can't you just scoop it up with buckets and wash out of the ship?
Sure, you have to run a lot of times.
You idiot!
Charles Alvarez no, that's just crazy enough to work!
+Jacques Dufrene Yeah! First we can bypass Data's normal subroutines with technobabble, thus allowing him to use his Android super reflexes and speed to run around the ships decks back and forth like Speedy Gonzales.

The fact that they take this scene dead serious makes it more hilarious
Error: This Picard is broken.
Love the Shatner method at the end ;-)
Picard is totally tripping balls.
What does that even mean? I don't see him tripping anything.
How would you go about tripping a ball?
....you people overthink this shit WAY too much.
I think tripping balls is just a way of excentuating how much you are under the influence of a hallucinagen, or some other type of drug. The balls parts is more fallic than funny.
Two or three drops in the earl grey more than likely.
0:59 yyyep. Picard has officially lost his shit. c:
Gas cloud be like If you gotta go, go with a smile.
Patrick Stewart was laughing when he was shouting those No's.
There was no doubt about it he was about to corpse.
Not only is this one of the funnier moments in TNG but we all know we'd do the same thing.
So true
Well, if I were in his shoes, I'd draw a dick
It’s both funny and terrifying.
Looks like Picard dropped some serious acid.
No wonder he's acting like a big baby!

Heh, I used to watch TOS and TNG with my dad. But this, this is what a Shakespearean actor can bring to a show.
Data sounds like he's on helium. This was one of my favorite episodes.
Me too, i love this episode "🙂"

So that cloud from the warp core has lsd in it??? Now we now how the enterprise engines really work!
Loved this show as a kid, and I never forgot this part :)
This is what happens when your captain drinks too much hot Earl Grey Tea!

Must be some of that strong Romulan grog
Great episode!! Brilliantly made!!!
Warp Core Ejection systems.exe has stopped working.
Picard.exe has stopped responding, would you like to send an error report?
Data: umm no?
Sending error report!
Someone should make an edit where season one of Star Trek Picard appears in the cloud rather the smiley face.

Someone's got to name a drink after my dude.
I laughed my fucking ass off when first saw this scene
I think the good captain was inhaling a little too much of the fumes
Just scoop up the explosion in a bucket and dump it outside
The line must be drawn here
tbh i would probably do that too if i were there
Just watched this episode last night. I was crying with laughter. It was so unexpected!
Seems like Picard got a contact high at first then started suffering a bad trip.
I always thought that Picard just hallucinated the smiley face.
me too xD
He drew. It. While data and troi. Head was turned
I could see Deputy Director Bullock doing this WITHOUT the narcosis.
0:58 Patrick Stewart breaking character.
'ts just part of being a Star Trek captain.

My reaction to when people suffer in a cruel world.
When you smoke too much weed and have a panic attack.
Hello! Its 2021. A watched pot never boils.
"Captain Picard Takes an Edible"
Picard needs to cut back on that Romulan Ale.
Picard demonstrating what its like to smoke salvia...
Picard was high on the fumes
I drew a smiley face just like that in my cat's litter box and laughed after standing by a cloud of weed smoke one time.
Istg the sudden emotional horror moments in the last 3 seasons or so of TNG was some of the best shit that's ever been done in TV
They could've easily titled this episode The Quantumite Maneuver.😂 Joker Picard 🃏

He had an attack of the Shatner's.....

Great acting

Good thing Picard wasn't in a naughty mood!

I didn’t even notice that he had done that when I watched this episode.
Technically Data could remain in this state indefinitely
