The news right now is horrible. Can't watch it without getting mad, sad or scared, or all three. Watching your videos is pleasant and I usually learn something.
I don't think about "prepping" anymore, I just get on with it as it makes sense to do now, in this expensive and skeptical world we live in. And the more I do, the more I want to learn and "put by". And the more I want to stay in my kitchen and leave all the ugly behind by focusing on my prepping.

Your house is adorable! And that yard is a dream! Right now? My big concern is trying to get a driver’s license at nearly 47 years. About a year ago our family relocated from America to another country to be closer to his family. We love it here, but I can only drive on my USA state license until the end of March 2024. The clock is ticking. My test is today and probably will be over by the time you read this comment (because time zones). I’m also starting my first real garden this year, assuming my seeds sprout.
Hi thank you for showing us your beautiful property. When my children grew up I started thinking about what to do with my “free time”. My grand parents had huge gardens on their small properties. My mother’s parents had fig,pear,apple,peach trees grapes and the usual garden things. My father’s parents had apple trees and the usual tomatoes,cucumbers,potatoes,onions etc… I was very young when my grand parents died but I remember them preserving what they grew and they had it for the winter. If friends and family needed help with food my grandparents help out. I guess I should tell you this was around 1920’s till they past away. I wish someone had shown me how to can so now I have the time to learn I’m gardening and sharing what we have I’m canning and having a ball. I’m even learning how to use some flowers to make teas. I enjoy how you show how to use everything so you don’t have waist. Have a great day 😊

I would hate that I would not get to see you as much. I’ve done a lot of your canning recipes that you have shown and loved everything we have tried. Love you lady and seeing less of you saddens me.
Yes it was beautiful here too…NC…camera view looks sharp and very good……Sound ok also…Not worrying about anything…I listen to the doom and gloom but what will be will be ……..prepping and getting garden ready, crocheting Amigurumi for great grands……thanking God for what he has given me and just being happy to be alive and fortunate to have a healthy mental attitude…..unfortunately, most of the generation of today are not like us….they are very mixed up with their thinking…..I pray for them…….. you take care…👋🏻👵🏻

Every video you've done has been enjoyable! Whether it's learning something new, or seeing how you do something, or just visiting like today - it's all good. I haven't been commenting much lately since we're also taking advantage of the weather and replacing some garden beds. And I ventured into learning soil blocking with 72 done, seedlings popping up all over. And that meant a better grow house was needed so we have an indoor greenhouse now. "Some assembly required" - omg. Your home and property are just gorgeous! My dream home in real life. Thank you for everything you've done and will do 💞
I enjoy your videos. I especially liked the one you did on the medical hack. It's good to hear from someone who actually knows what they're talking about. You should do videos that give you joy. Who needs another "job"? We're in East TN. We set out 3 fruit trees, another blueberry and another muscadine plant today. We could plant potatoes and/or peas, but it's too wet, and supposed to rain again in 2 days - so we wait. I'm not worried about anything except our kids and grandkids. They think we're crazy preppers, lol, but being raised by Depression era parents, we've lived this way all our lives. We just turned 70 and live on a farm. No animals, but huge vegetable gardens. We trust in the Lord and try to be good stewards of what we've been blessed with. Thank you for what you do. I enjoy all your videos. You do you!
I am not afraid. I was gonna move in with you but that's too much work. When it's my time it's my time. I'm old and still am grateful that I can still walk, talk and get to the bathroom on my own. I have no control over insanity so don't worry be happy 🇧🇴🇧🇴

Loved the walk about. I guess I was prepping a long time ago and didn’t call it that. Just never liked running out of things. I’ve been trying to eat down my stockpile. Only stocking deals I can find. I like all your videos, whatever you want to show us!

Your sound is perfect on my phone. You do look very young and pretty. I’m fortunate that my neighbor gives me eggs and they are delicious. My joy is living on acreage and enjoying nature and her creatures. My granddaughter and I just planted my garden. It’s getting hotter here in NW Fl. And am not looking forward to summer. Love the gardens springing to life. My gaelic, elephant garlic and shallots are up. My strawberry plants lived, well most of them. This is our first Spring with fruit trees, apples and pears. I doubt we will get any fruit this year but I see buds starting to green up. Makes me feel alive to see things growing and the birds all returning. I did winter sowing in milk jugs for the first time ever - have you tried that? I've got broccoli, cabbage, flowers and artichoke seedlings growing, albeit tiny seedlings. I enjoy gardening, preserving and cooking videos. I also enjoy videos on farm animals. And travel, going anywhere exciting thus summer? And worrying? What's the point? We do what we can do.

I can’t wait til election season is over, although it does feel like it never really stopped after the last one. I am trying to figure out the growing vegetables thing, but never had anyone to teach me and I am just bot good at plants. My biggest concern is the cost of EVERYTHING, I am in the car business and my income has decreased significantly. I spend alot of time watching frugal cooking and canning, trying to get creative with the shopping so that I can make it. Love the doorbell! Where did you get it? I watch preserving and gardening and cooking channels, you fit right in. I love starting seeds, growing plants and harvesting, preserving my produce. My goal this year is to can 50 quarts each of green beans and tomatoes. This will be my second year of canning. I love canning ugly chicken! I don’t like the doom and gloom channels. I am a worrier and I find myself focusing on it and it’s not good for me. Playing in the dirt makes me happy❤❤❤
I keep a well stocked pantry. Most is home canned food. I purchase very little from the center isles at the grocery store. I do look at sales and buy what my family needs at sale prices. I don't like election year either. I watch cooking, canning, gardening, and quilting videos. Those are things that I do that bring me pleasure.
I could stay by your creek all day long and fish. I really don't have any fears because I just give it all to the Lord to handle for me. I have been canning since the pandemic and I am proud of how my pantry is filling up with food for our whole family. Our children and grandchildren know that if they need something from the pantry they are more than welcome to take it. I love your channel. Have a blessed day.
I enjoyed the walk. Sometimes you know you need to get out and enjoy it. No problem with the audio. I see the trees wanting to bloom and I keep telling them "Not yet. You need to wait." I wish I lived by a waterfall. Listening to the water is so relaxing. I am so over all the rhetoric and ridiculousness in the news right now. I spend most of my time these days planning my garden and I’m trying to learn about foraging the plants on my property. I have made violet jelly, white clover jelly and I tried common mallow. It was pretty good. There are several other plants (weeds) that I want to try this spring. Loved your walkabout! Take care!
@@PrepperPotpourri it’s really easy and I love when the color changes after adding the lemon juice. I highly recommend it. I have not tried the leaves yet which I have read are edible. (If I remember correctly). That is a project that will be coming up shortly.
I struggle with timing. When to start seeds. Cold weather crops sharing space with warm weather crops. When is each harvest going to be… What the next item to can going to be? I usually don’t know to do something till I see a few of my CZcamsrs doing something. By the time it’s posted or I see it, I am a week or two behind. I really hope you can give advice on how you prepare and stay on schedule for these seasons. Thank you for everything you do. Congratulations on your new camera.
Thanks! I actually keep a calendar on when something is usually ready for harvest but the weird weather the last couple of years has thrown off everything. Cherries used to always be July. Now they might be June.

The video quality was great and outside the audio was fine. Maybe in the house move the mic closer to your head? (What do I know...but it was more difficult to hear you in the house.) Your property is gorgeous and I can see how it would be so relaxing spending time in nature there. I haven't been able to watch the news for the last few years, it is too upsetting. There are so many things to worry about now and none of it is within my control so I try to focus on just doing what I can and limit the amount of doom and gloom videos I watch. Happy that I've finally gotten my physical activity level back to where it was before my April 2023 hospitalization for pneumonia - have to build on that now though. Just finished watching 6 seasons of reruns of "Northern Exposure." Loved that show! Looking forward to virtually attending Balticon in May. Overall, I'm feeling cautiously optimistic that our economy will continue improving and the election season will pass without major incident.

As many have chimed in to say, you have a stunning property. Us young'un's can only dream of home ownership. Yours is a fantasy, complete with deer prancing and magical stream! (But upkeep is sobering reminder as well) Btw I hope your neighbours remember to bring back the egg cartons! Fewer trips to the grocery store for us millennials right now. We have preps, but they need to be better organized/inventoried. Its even trickier in a small apartament. Watching a lot of decluttering vids right now lol Oh! hiya, your sound is pretty low. I have 2 volumes on my laptop, i have them both up full blast and it's still a bit low, usually the level of your sound is quite good. I bet you can turn up the mic volume somehow...or during editing? Picture quality is good and uploaded as 1080i.....I don't trip and fall because I don't appear in my video's :)
My peach tree has completely flowered. I haven't gotten peaches in a few years because of the April frost. My joy is just sitting in my garden. My little Eden. I enjoy listening to you. I'm retired, but it really makes you think about a lot of things. Thank you!!
You have such a beautiful home, and your location on that creek is just gorgeous! Like you, I hate the negative ads of the recent election cycles - I miss the statesman-like speeches of the past. We must be about the same age; I'll be retiring in a couple of years. I'm so glad I learned to can and cook from cook from scratch years ago; without those skills, we'd be hard pressed to make ends meet.
@PrepperPotpourri Not far behind you, I'll be 67 in May but intend to keep working. My husband will be 82 in July and has significant health issues. The one good thing that came out of the lockdown is that my work went fully remote so I've been blessed to be with him full time for the past 4 years.

Please stay on youtube. I am older and all the new sights are hard for me to navigate and even understand. The world is such a scary place and television is not something I enjoy but I am use to youtube and here I know exactly which creators have videos on the things that interest me. You are one of those creators. I love all the videos you put out and it really doesn’t matter what content. After all these years of watching you it’s more like listening to a friend talk than just watching a random video. So just post whatever makes you happy. In the end, it really doesn’t matter the number of viewers you received but that the video you put out may have touched or helped someone out in the moment- at least that is how I see it. BTW Your land is so beautiful and I love all the animals. I would never want to give that up either so I hope you never have too.

Don't try to do too much at once. Start small in gardening growing items you like to eat. Tomatoes are pretty easy to grow. Then experiment with ways to preserve what you have grown: Freezing, dehydrating and canning. Your local cooperative extension office has a lot of resources. Have water be the foundation of your stored goods: Store some and buy a good water filter so you can still have drinking water. Then start storing canned and package goods for a 1 week food supply. Gradually double, triple, etc. your supply but be sure to rotate through what you store. What is a Self-Reliance Specialist?
Hello ❤ I am 64 on only 1 acre of nightmare property. Lol I am in Niagara Region, in a micro zone that gets warmer faster and the big storms like Buffalo. But the zone allows me to grow a bit warmer crops. But my clay is super hard, the next property is pines giving me shade, and i am loaded with invasive canes and black walnut trees! I have only 1 place condusive to gardening, in the Northwest corner. I cant plow there, because of our Septic bed. It is the farthest from water sources. Most exposed to deer, with unfenced on all sides. Now include that i Walk/Work/Drive/Carry/Stand ON a jagged busted leg bone, with a tiny teeny knee point and my body is starting to slide down BESIDE the jagged??!? You can see Why i have troubles handling this place! The new mower i bought, Requires i USE my busted leg, to make it drive! So i cant get away from it! My bedroom is Up, the bathroom is Down. I live with 2 small dogs and 2 young Adults, who literally Trash my house on me. I started Reno to get house Sound and Remove all the Broken and Moldy/Rat Chewed places? I got Ripped Off twice! So i have ONLY a toilet and wood chip floor. Stuck. No one wants to Do my Job! As for Prepping? I got back into it. I started doing Canning and Freezing in earnest, about 1990. It was a bad financial Years and suddenly, at Christmas, i HAD empty stored supplies and bank account! I vowed to NEVER be Caught Without, ever again! But after i moved here? The soil was so bad and i wont use chemical fertilizers, like my dad! I have been very angry with him! Because he HAD both animals AND gardens! 35 YEARS, he had, TO amend the Soil!! He could have gotten it into soil vs clay!! He took the Easy Chemical way..... He was a farmer. No excuse! Anyway. I moved into canning again. I had 2 freezers full of Reserves? Then one got blown by Short and other is ready to Die and wont Seal properly. It got unplugged without my knowledge! I suddenly had ZERO Stocks!!! Distress is a mild statement! Lol I have since bought 2 chest freezers and an upright. I have the old one restocked? Another thaw hit it! There goes my expensive Organic meats, fruits and veggies!! Sigh.... The Reno Supplies block the garage. I cant get INTO that freezer, without Unloading about 500 Pounds of floooring, sitting ON it! I am afraid to see the seal and lid, when i get it cleared! But i cant move the flooring.... I had just put whole boxes of meats and loads of peppers and big bags of veggies for Restaraunts, in there! Never got to use any! Lol So. Now you can see why i am moving Back into Canning! That hurts my leg tremendously! It has also Hastened my Standing Decline. Big time! I got into doing Pressure canning. Ferments. Making Tinctures and Doing Local Wild Medicne Plants. I WAS trying to have greenhouse on that one Corner! But i got Scammed on that too! So. I have a Ton bag delivered of soil, seeds galore, stand Planters, and NO greenhouee! I just keep going! I was going to use my porch as a Greens Room, plus move my Sewing Area out there. I have a fancy Low Energy Convection Heater, still IN the box! I have Solar Panels, cords, Converters....no Batteries and Unable TO install them! 😂 i wanted Zones of Solar Backup, so kitchen, basement and front porch have energy, always. That covers: furnace, well water pumps, sump pump, fridge, 2 freezers, stove an convection heater..... Nice Dreams! Got my car paid for, ALL Repairs and matenence kept up and new tires. Why do i keep Going? Am i Scared? NO! I have enough TO survivea year? 2? I wanted to get things in old freezer canned up, in case it goes and havent gotten to it yet. My leg limits what and when i can do things. But? My Goal IS to make this Place RIGHT. It was built by the previous Man, with Used Second hand supplies. But his skill and Planning was Poor. I found 8 places, so far, where the house almost caught Fire!! Different reasons, but poor man logic is in it! So many Issues, ALL Caused by Poor Man Logic! Even new issues by the Scammers! Men. But i Believe? God Returns SOON. And i AM Preparing FOR my Grandmother! I expect TO See her!!! The seeds are for her. I have her dishes, oil lamps, treddle sewing machine, Czech Lace aprons, doilies, hand woven Linen, etc, that i Keep FOR her! Juices, crocks, washboard, etc, all to Give to her back! I recal her Fave seeds! I only saw them once. So i bought Organic Heritage ones, for her to grow again! ❤ My dad's last words to me, were a Challenge! "You will Lose the house! I should have Sold it! Take Care of it! I worked hard to GET it!"..... Thus, my Goal TO Fix and Solve! My parents battled endlessly, regarding What to Fix! I figure now IS my Chance TO Do it Right! I hand this dump mess Back, ALL Problem Solved! No more battles!!! ❤❤
i worry about not being able to reach full retirement. I got laid of during 2020. I got rehired in 2021. It really set me back 4 yrs in earnings! I have moved up in income but fear I won't be able to retire until I'm 70 now. Then my husband got laid off this year. That's another setback. Plus he got side swiped in an auto accident and now we only have one vehicle. It wasn't his fault but, the money he got isn't enough to pay for another vehicle and without a job, he can't afford to make payments. So, here we sit, me still working and paying bills and him unable to to do anything. Also, he is handicaped and over 70. Life sometimes deals a bad hand. We're surviving, but , barely. I just feel like with prices of food the way they are that we sill have to cut back even more on what we eat as well as where we can afford to drive to.
I hear you just fine. I was quite worried last spring with two eye surgeries would I have everything I needed for four months. Yes I did and surgery went well. Now I’m tired of this election already. I keep my ringer off at all times. Watch videos in the morning or at night. I like all your videos. I don’t like politics. I love being retired I hope you will also.
I'm concerned about so many things I don't know where to start. I don't watch the news, it's horrible. The state of the world is a concern, young people are scary. with all there pronoun confusion, makes me worry about my great grand babies and their future. I pray a lot that makes me happy. I am happy. My circle is small, just family and I stay away from social media like face book, insta gram, twitter, tik tok. You tube is my only friend, I watch homestead videos, gardening, canning and food prep videos. But there is always extreme preppers with all kinds of SHTF crap, so bad news filters through about the world anyway. Don't know what is true and what isn't. Anyway, I can't wait to garden. I love my job and I only take care of me and my husband, in that order. ☺🙏🏽🧡

My husband and I are retired and and live on social security and one of the presidental canidates stands against Social Security, Veterians Benefits and State benifits. It is a huge concern for so many Americans including us. Many would be homeless without it. It concerns me. We are both disabled and unable to work and in our early and mid 70's

You have to pin the mic higher in the kitchen. Something that I noticed yesterday on another video, sometimes people on their phones can hear things, I'm on my tablet & I don't always hear anything. I would point out again, you sound fine outside.
One thing I worry about are the cyber attacks that are the "precursors" to the BIG ONE. I also worry every year about hurricane season because I live in Southern Louisiana. I worry about my son and daughter going to serve in a foreign war in Ukraine or Taiwan. I worry about my wife and I deteriorating health.
70s here in southern Arizona on the high desert today. It’s been unusually warm which I am hoping doesn’t mean a horribly hot summer this year. We typically don’t get much into the 90s but the past couple of years has been miserable. 100 degree temps is unusual here. Anyway I liked this video a lot. I’ve watched your videos on and off for a while now and I prefer these types of “real” life videos. I understand though how difficult it must be for you to put out videos and all that hard work that goes into it for only a few views. Oh and we are retired as well on 9 acres. Sometimes I think that we have too much time to listen to the drone of doom as I age and if it wasn’t for my faith in God I would’ve lost it years ago!

For me your audio was really low. I had to turn the volume all the way up to hear you. Not a complaint just a hopefully helpful comment. As for what I'm doing - same as usual, doing the best I can. I also really hate election season and try to ignore it but it seems to get harder as we go on.
I actually don’t like the new sound. It’s flat but my ears are old and garbage. I figured out my sound and film issues. I’m too cheap to spends thousands on it. We have flies here now. A normal cold spell will kill a lot of birds and trees up here. The new normal is abnormal and will get worst.

I don't think about "prepping" anymore, I just get on with it as it makes sense to do now, in this expensive and skeptical world we live in. And the more I do, the more I want to learn and "put by". And the more I want to stay in my kitchen and leave all the ugly behind by focusing on my prepping.

Right now? My big concern is trying to get a driver’s license at nearly 47 years. About a year ago our family relocated from America to another country to be closer to his family. We love it here, but I can only drive on my USA state license until the end of March 2024. The clock is ticking. My test is today and probably will be over by the time you read this comment (because time zones).
I’m also starting my first real garden this year, assuming my seeds sprout.

Hi thank you for showing us your beautiful property. When my children grew up I started thinking about what to do with my “free time”. My grand parents had huge gardens on their small properties. My mother’s parents had fig,pear,apple,peach trees grapes and the usual garden things. My father’s parents had apple trees and the usual tomatoes,cucumbers,potatoes,onions etc… I was very young when my grand parents died but I remember them preserving what they grew and they had it for the winter. If friends and family needed help with food my grandparents help out. I guess I should tell you this was around 1920’s till they past away. I wish someone had shown me how to can so now I have the time to learn I’m gardening and sharing what we have I’m canning and having a ball. I’m even learning how to use some flowers to make teas. I enjoy how you show how to use everything so you don’t have waist. Have a great day 😊

I haven't been commenting much lately since we're also taking advantage of the weather and replacing some garden beds. And I ventured into learning soil blocking with 72 done, seedlings popping up all over. And that meant a better grow house was needed so we have an indoor greenhouse now. "Some assembly required" - omg. Your home and property are just gorgeous! My dream home in real life. Thank you for everything you've done and will do 💞

I enjoy your videos. I especially liked the one you did on the medical hack. It's good to hear from someone who actually knows what they're talking about. You should do videos that give you joy. Who needs another "job"? We're in East TN. We set out 3 fruit trees, another blueberry and another muscadine plant today. We could plant potatoes and/or peas, but it's too wet, and supposed to rain again in 2 days - so we wait. I'm not worried about anything except our kids and grandkids. They think we're crazy preppers, lol, but being raised by Depression era parents, we've lived this way all our lives. We just turned 70 and live on a farm. No animals, but huge vegetable gardens. We trust in the Lord and try to be good stewards of what we've been blessed with. Thank you for what you do. I enjoy all your videos. You do you!

Love the gardens springing to life. My gaelic, elephant garlic and shallots are up. My strawberry plants lived, well most of them. This is our first Spring with fruit trees, apples and pears. I doubt we will get any fruit this year but I see buds starting to green up. Makes me feel alive to see things growing and the birds all returning. I did winter sowing in milk jugs for the first time ever - have you tried that? I've got broccoli, cabbage, flowers and artichoke seedlings growing, albeit tiny seedlings.

Your property is beautiful. I wish I had that kind of view at my place. Everything looked and sounded great. I can’t wait til election season is over, although it does feel like it never really stopped after the last one. I am trying to figure out the growing vegetables thing, but never had anyone to teach me and I am just bot good at plants. My biggest concern is the cost of EVERYTHING, I am in the car business and my income has decreased significantly. I spend alot of time watching frugal cooking and canning, trying to get creative with the shopping so that I can make it. My goal this year is to can 50 quarts each of green beans and tomatoes. This will be my second year of canning. I love canning ugly chicken! I don’t like the doom and gloom channels. I am a worrier and I find myself focusing on it and it’s not good for me. Playing in the dirt makes me happy❤❤❤
I got the doorbell at a Sy Fy convention 40 plus years ago. I have never seen another one like it.
I keep a well stocked pantry. Most is home canned food. I purchase very little from the center isles at the grocery store. I do look at sales and buy what my family needs at sale prices. I don't like election year either. I watch cooking, canning, gardening, and quilting videos. Those are things that I do that bring me pleasure.

I could stay by your creek all day long and fish. I really don't have any fears because I just give it all to the Lord to handle for me. I have been canning since the pandemic and I am proud of how my pantry is filling up with food for our whole family. I wish I lived by a waterfall. Listening to the water is so relaxing. I am so over all the rhetoric and ridiculousness in the news right now. I spend most of my time these days planning my garden and I’m trying to learn about foraging the plants on my property. I have made violet jelly, white clover jelly and I tried common mallow. It was pretty good. There are several other plants (weeds) that I want to try this spring. Loved your walkabout! Take care!

I agree, I hate the crazy presidential election years--which actually start 4+ years earlier.
I struggle with timing. When to start seeds. Cold weather crops sharing space with warm weather crops. When is each harvest going to be… What the next item to can going to be? I usually don’t know to do something till I see a few of my CZcamsrs doing something. By the time it’s posted or I see it, I am a week or two behind. I really hope you can give advice on how you prepare and stay on schedule for these seasons. Thank you for everything you do. Congratulations on your new camera.
Thanks! I actually keep a calendar on when something is usually ready for harvest but the weird weather the last couple of years has thrown off everything. Cherries used to always be July. Now they might be June.

The video quality was great and outside the audio was fine. Maybe in the house move the mic closer to your head? (What do I know...but it was more difficult to hear you in the house.) Your property is gorgeous and I can see how it would be so relaxing spending time in nature there. I haven't been able to watch the news for the last few years, it is too upsetting. There are so many things to worry about now and none of it is within my control so I try to focus on just doing what I can and limit the amount of doom and gloom videos I watch. Happy that I've finally gotten my physical activity level back to where it was before my April 2023 hospitalization for pneumonia - have to build on that now though. Just finished watching 6 seasons of reruns of "Northern Exposure." Loved that show! Looking forward to virtually attending Balticon in May. Overall, I'm feeling cautiously optimistic that our economy will continue improving and the election season will pass without major incident.

hiya, your sound is pretty low. I have 2 volumes on my laptop, i have them both up full blast and it's still a bit low, usually the level of your sound is quite good. I bet you can turn up the mic volume somehow...or during editing? Picture quality is good and uploaded as 1080i.....I don't trip and fall because I don't appear in my video's :)

You have such a beautiful home, and your location on that creek is just gorgeous! Like you, I hate the negative ads of the recent election cycles - I miss the statesman-like speeches of the past. We must be about the same age; I'll be retiring in a couple of years. I'm so glad I learned to can and cook from cook from scratch years ago; without those skills, we'd be hard pressed to make ends meet.

The world is such a scary place and television is not something I enjoy but I am use to youtube and here I know exactly which creators have videos on the things that interest me. You are one of those creators. I love all the videos you put out and it really doesn’t matter what content. After all these years of watching you it’s more like listening to a friend talk than just watching a random video. So just post whatever makes you happy. In the end, it really doesn’t matter the number of viewers you received but that the video you put out may have touched or helped someone out in the moment- at least that is how I see it. BTW Your land is so beautiful and I love all the animals. I would never want to give that up either so I hope you never have too.

I know next to nothing about gardening and food storage. Plus, I just got called to be a Self-Reliance Specialist. "Overwhelmed", yet excited to learn," describes me. What advice and suggestions do you have for a person who is new to all of this?
Don't try to do too much at once. Start small in gardening growing items you like to eat. Tomatoes are pretty easy to grow. Then experiment with ways to preserve what you have grown: Freezing, dehydrating and canning. Your local cooperative extension office has a lot of resources. Have water be the foundation of your stored goods: Store some and buy a good water filter so you can still have drinking water. Then start storing canned and package goods for a 1 week food supply. Gradually double, triple, etc. your supply but be sure to rotate through what you store. What is a Self-Reliance Specialist?

I am 64 on only 1 acre of nightmare property. Lol I am in Niagara Region, in a micro zone that gets warmer faster and the big storms like Buffalo. But the zone allows me to grow a bit warmer crops. But my clay is super hard, the next property is pines giving me shade, and i am loaded with invasive canes and black walnut trees! I have only 1 place condusive to gardening, in the Northwest corner. I cant plow there, because of our Septic bed. It is the farthest from water sources. Most exposed to deer, with unfenced on all sides.
Now include that i Walk/Work/Drive/Carry/Stand ON a jagged busted leg bone, with a tiny teeny knee point and my body is starting to slide down BESIDE the jagged??!? You can see Why i have troubles handling this place! The new mower i bought, Requires i USE my busted leg, to make it drive! So i cant get away from it! My bedroom is Up, the bathroom is Down. I live with 2 small dogs and 2 young Adults, who literally Trash my house on me. I started Reno to get house Sound and Remove all the Broken and Moldy/Rat Chewed places? I got Ripped Off twice! So i have ONLY a toilet and wood chip floor. Stuck. No one wants to Do my Job!
As for Prepping? I got back into it. I started doing Canning and Freezing in earnest, about 1990. It was a bad financial Years and suddenly, at Christmas, i HAD empty stored supplies and bank account! I vowed to NEVER be Caught Without, ever again! But after i moved here? The soil was so bad and i wont use chemical fertilizers, like my dad! I have been very angry with him! Because he HAD both animals AND gardens! 35 YEARS, he had, TO amend the Soil!! He could have gotten it into soil vs clay!! He took the Easy Chemical way..... He was a farmer. No excuse!
Anyway. I moved into canning again. I had 2 freezers full of Reserves? Then one got blown by Short and other is ready to Die and wont Seal properly. It got unplugged without my knowledge! I suddenly had ZERO Stocks!!! Distress is a mild statement! Lol
I have since bought 2 chest freezers and an upright. I have the old one restocked? Another thaw hit it! There goes my expensive Organic meats, fruits and veggies!!
Sigh....
The Reno Supplies block the garage. I cant get INTO that freezer, without Unloading about 500 Pounds of floooring, sitting ON it! I am afraid to see the seal and lid, when i get it cleared! But i cant move the flooring.... I had just put whole boxes of meats and loads of peppers and big bags of veggies for Restaraunts, in there! Never got to use any! Lol
So. Now you can see why i am moving Back into Canning! That hurts my leg tremendously! It has also Hastened my Standing Decline. Big time! I got into doing Pressure canning. Ferments. Making Tinctures and Doing Local Wild Medicne Plants. I WAS trying to have greenhouse on that one Corner! But i got Scammed on that too! So. I have a Ton bag delivered of soil, seeds galore, stand Planters, and NO greenhouee!
I just keep going! I was going to use my porch as a Greens Room, plus move my Sewing Area out there. I have a fancy Low Energy Convection Heater, still IN the box! I have Solar Panels, cords, Converters....no Batteries and Unable TO install them! 😂 i wanted Zones of Solar Backup, so kitchen, basement and front porch have energy, always. That covers: furnace, well water pumps, sump pump, fridge, 2 freezers, stove an convection heater..... Nice Dreams!
Got my car paid for, ALL Repairs and matenence kept up and new tires.
Why do i keep Going? Am i Scared? NO! I have enough TO survivea year? 2? I wanted to get things in old freezer canned up, in case it goes and havent gotten to it yet. My leg limits what and when i can do things. But? My Goal IS to make this Place RIGHT. It was built by the previous Man, with Used Second hand supplies. But his skill and Planning was Poor. I found 8 places, so far, where the house almost caught Fire!! Different reasons, but poor man logic is in it! So many Issues, ALL Caused by Poor Man Logic! Even new issues by the Scammers! Men.
But i Believe? God Returns SOON. And i AM Preparing FOR my Grandmother! I expect TO See her!!! The seeds are for her. I have her dishes, oil lamps, treddle sewing machine, Czech Lace aprons, doilies, hand woven Linen, etc, that i Keep FOR her! Juices, crocks, washboard, etc, all to Give to her back! i worry about not being able to reach full retirement. I got laid of during 2020. I got rehired in 2021. It really set me back 4 yrs in earnings! I have moved up in income but fear I won't be able to retire until I'm 70 now. Then my husband got laid off this year. That's another setback. Plus he got side swiped in an auto accident and now we only have one vehicle. It wasn't his fault but, the money he got isn't enough to pay for another vehicle and without a job, he can't afford to make payments. So, here we sit, me still working and paying bills and him unable to to do anything. Also, he is handicaped and over 70. Life sometimes deals a bad hand. We're surviving, but , barely. I just feel like with prices of food the way they are that we sill have to cut back even more on what we eat as well as where we can afford to drive to.
My husband also got permanently laid off at age 63. I hope things improve.

I hear you just fine. I was quite worried last spring with two eye surgeries would I have everything I needed for four months. Yes I did and surgery went well. Now I’m tired of this election already. I keep my ringer off at all times. Watch videos in the morning or at night.

I'm concerned about so many things I don't know where to start. I don't watch the news, it's horrible. The state of the world is a concern, young people are scary. with all there pronoun confusion, makes me worry about my great grand babies and their future. I pray a lot that makes me happy. I am happy. My circle is small, just family and I stay away from social media like face book, insta gram, twitter, tik tok. You tube is my only friend, I watch homestead videos, gardening, canning and food prep videos. But there is always extreme preppers with all kinds of SHTF crap, so bad news filters through about the world anyway. Don't know what is true and what isn't. Anyway, I can't wait to garden. I love my job and I only take care of me and my husband, in that order. ☺🙏🏽🧡

My husband and I are retired and and live on social security and one of the presidental canidates stands against Social Security, Veterians Benefits and State benifits. It is a huge concern for so many Americans including us. Many would be homeless without it. It concerns me. We are both disabled and unable to work and in our early and mid 70's

You have to pin the mic higher in the kitchen. Something that I noticed yesterday on another video, sometimes people on their phones can hear things, I'm on my tablet & I don't always hear anything. I would point out again, you sound fine outside.

One thing I worry about are the cyber attacks that are the "precursors" to the BIG ONE. I also worry every year about hurricane season because I live in Southern Louisiana. I worry about my son and daughter going to serve in a foreign war in Ukraine or Taiwan. I worry about my wife and I deteriorating health.

70s here in southern Arizona on the high desert today. It’s been unusually warm which I am hoping doesn’t mean a horribly hot summer this year. We typically don’t get much into the 90s but the past couple of years has been miserable. 100 degree temps is unusual here. Anyway I liked this video a lot. I’ve watched your videos on and off for a while now and I prefer these types of “real” life videos. I understand though how difficult it must be for you to put out videos and all that hard work that goes into it for only a few views.
Oh and we are retired as well on 9 acres. Sometimes I think that we have too much time to listen to the drone of doom as I age and if it wasn’t for my faith in God I would’ve lost it years ago!

1) make videos you *want* to make. Your "real" tribe will watch then and be grateful. Don't worry, at all, about the algorithm.

For me your audio was really low. I had to turn the volume all the way up to hear you. Not a complaint just a hopefully helpful comment. As for what I'm doing - same as usual, doing the best I can. I also really hate election season and try to ignore it but it seems to get harder as we go on.
