- Waking up to a cloudy day is enough to put one into a foul mood. Add some cold weather and rain on top of that, oh and that's just the icing on the cake! (And we haven't even begun to talk about everything else that one might be dealing with underneath all that!) But that's exactly how it was for me on this particular cold, damp, rainy day, just like so many others before it. But instead of spending the day preparing for a future video, I decided to do what I often do: take what the universe was offering and do something with it. I mean it's clearly obvious the universe wanted this video to happen, and who am I to question what the universe wants? So like a good little puppet I pushed the video that was scheduled to be published for today to Sunday, grabbed my recording gear and an umbrella, and scampered out into the local woods to kill two eldritch horrors with one stone: work through my own funk by making a video exactly about these kinds of gloomy, rainy days and their effect on our mood, outlook, energy, etc.
At 51 years old, I like to think I have a little bit of experience when it comes to being human and dealing with the landscape of the mind. And so I ramble about a variety of mental health related topics, such as the various parts of the world that experience this weather more frequently, the ways we cope and work through these days, and even such peripheral topics as respecting yourself, the ephemeral nature of happiness, quitting bad habits like smoking & drinking, and the like.
There are also plenty of moments where we take a look at the beautiful grey sky, the gorgeous bleak woods, and the ever-flowing stream that could care less about anything or anyone whatsoever.

It's interesting and good to hear that not everyone dislikes these kinds of days and weather. That thought never occurred to me when doing this video. So I guess my next video will have to be "Beating Those Sunny Day Blahs" ;) No, but seriously, now that I think about it, it's an interesting conversation to have, and I should to make a video opposite of this one anyway. To everyone else who hates this weather like me, keep on pushing through!
P.S. And thanks for "Healthy as a Horse", etc. ;)
Keep on keeping on!
Fit as a fiddle!
But what a fiddle is I don't know...
I clicked on the video soley because of the cozy setting
So, here in the middle of the US it is very gray and bipolar. How I deal and cope is by leaning into it and embracing it. If all of this is not embraced and accepted, how can we enjoy the sunny days with clear blue skies? Thanks for sharing. 13= death And rebirth
Ya know, I like vids where it's about his own universe and such but honestly? I like the ones where he's just Paul. Just a guy with a camera, just walking and talking in the rain to his audience. Never change Paul, you're the coolest internet uncle!
Uncle E the best
As an Englishman, living deep within the depths of the West Midlands, I’ve grown to appreciate this kind of weather. Nothing quite like trudging through the rain and wind, back to your house for a nice cup of tea. Cozy.
👋 hi from a fellow midlands girl, I too am enjoying the miserable weather whilst inside cozy!
but when england is like ireland, it gets sunny afrerwards in the day
I live in Australia, we get our share of sun, but this weather has always brought me comfort. Obviously unlike in the UK, rainy weather is quite sparse so that might be why.😅
cuppa tea*, you're british, lad
@@winter_3407 Here in QLD, it's either 6000⁰ or pissing down lol
Honestly, the “Dreary” weather makes me happier than sunshine and hot days. I love rain. I love going on walks and hikes in an environment like this
Same here. Makes me feel alive lol
ER is like the most sarcastic weatherman to never exist. Ironically, his personality is very fitting for someone who forecasts weather

I'm always depressed throughout the summer, heat is the worst thing in existence. Autumn weather like this however is my absolute favourite, always makes me want to take a walk.
Summer lovers are a different breed of human I swear. Autumn is comfy, winter is beautiful. Spring is okay, summer is nightmarenightmarenightmarenightmarenightma-
Summer is always a contradiction between being upset and the sun is bright, the sky is blue, everyone's happy, but nothing for you
Exactly how I feel!
The world is a rough place . People like you in our lives make it much more bearable. Thank you for existing.
I usually use rain as my hobby time, I’ll get a nice cup of coffee, set up my paints, and go to town.
The diffuse light through the clouds is perfect for miniatures and the sound of the rain is so relaxing.
I’m glad he said he is thinking of doing more of these one of my favorites ! I normally sleep to your videos but I woke up to this on my feed and it turned out to be a peaceful calm morning that really helped just felt like sitting in the rain talking with a friend about life. I hope anyone reading this has a wonderful day and thank you for being here
My dog just passed away. I had him for nearly eighteen years of my life, and for nearly as long as I can remember. So I've been struggling.
But you always manage to cheer me up. And I've been using your videos to keep myself company at night, in the absence of his quiet snores and snorts.
Thank you
Man, what i'd do just to be able to go out in a forest like that. Such a peaceful place
where do you live? if you're from america there's more than likely a place like this near you.
@@harryshanahan1878 I'm from south africa, a large majority of the forests here aren't near me and don't lose their leaves

After the floods over here in Australia, rain has been given a new meaning. For me it symbolises the chaotic beauty of nature; a reminder that too much of something good can have negative consequences. Great video rift!
This is so real and immersive. I feel like I'm on a walk with a close friend of mine
As a landscaper, these are my favorite days, the only time I can justify relaxing.
This is so relaxing, I was having a bad day and now it's better Bet the smell of rain on the leaves was amazing!
I didn't say it was a good day. I said it's a little better of a day now. What, am I not allowed to feel better after watching relaxing content from one of my favorite creators?
@@Mrhumanv1 dude just shut up, stop being a dick, get off your computer, sweaty discord mod, and go take a walk
To answer the question Paul asked ME and ONLY me, I don't find rainy days depressing.
I struggle with my own stuff, but rainy days make me so happy. Cloudy and cold days. It feels like they match my energy, or that it is a reminder to take care of myself and stop for a while.
But when depressive days do arrive, I really just try to focus on one good thing. One small thing, a good breakfast I had, the nice smell of my perfume, the comfy clothes I'm wearing or the sound of the rain on the roof. I just try to anchor myself to one good thing and move on from there.
And if it doesn't work, I just accept that that day was probably a quiet day, an internal day, and I focus on myself and watch something fun, listen to music or any simple act that doesn't require too much energy.
I hope my, and MY answer alone, has given you some insight or ideas on how to deal with *rainy days*
I've been depressed for 10 years and i hate the summers, perfect weather and all. It just makes me feel stressed bc i'm not constantly out enjoying the life with friends, and during the finnish winters i feel the most at peace when most people complain about the cold and snow. It feels less pressure to constantly do something, so it's better.
I absolutely love this. The sound of the rain is coming through so nicely, and your natural voice is well balanced against it. Dreary as they may be, there's something special about the atmosphere in the woods on these rainy days. Reminds me of the New England trails that I grew up with.
Seeing smiling ER in the thumbnail is enough to make my day better. And i have a whole video left!
This forest looks exactly like the forest here, so does the weather and the mood of the people at this time of year. It is a pleasure to have seen that relaxing video tonight. Greetings from Germany :)
Same in Denmark👌😭
Here in Slovakia the temperatures getting below zero finally :)
Germany is always grey for 60 percent of the year, learned to appreciate it.
I love rain and storm over the sun. I love late stormy nights especially.
Just hearing the whispers and the sound of rain helped with my headache thank you
I know you said you feel like you've said this all before, but from the bottom of my heart I really needed to hear some of this stuff. Thank you for taking us on a walk and talk, the rain sounds absolutely wonderful. The fact that the rain sounds so good and is helping with my seasonal depression is ironic to me! 💜 you're a good soul and your channel is definitely a safe space.
This is exactly what I needed before finals week, thanks ER for all the enthusiasm and energy you put into this channel
I personally like this kind of relaxation
Not these professional Videos
I prefer more spontaneous ones in combination with your great sense of humor
You will always be the best asmr creator ❤️
I love rainy weather. It makes me feel more relaxed/happier than sunny weather does
I love rainy weather any time of year. I'm not going to pretend I understand people who struggle with emotion during rainy days because I don't but its important to see the beauty in everything you can. There's something so peaceful about a rain storm, everything goes inside and away to hide but yet the sound of the water hitting all the surrounding's keeps everything feeling active and moving.
as dreary as autumnal weather can be, i always find the sight of warmly coloured orange leaves and the sound of rain quite familiar and comforting. even if its not too pleasant to be out in sometimes
I myself find beauty and real peace in darkness and stormy weather.
Days like this are very common where I live in England (UK) 😂 I love the rain, there is something so peaceful about walking in the rain ❤️ but of course a bit of sunshine and greenery is fabulous too. You have such a wonderfully peaceful voice ❤
Uncle E has helped me many times in life, but on the day I felt worst, on my roughest hour shaking from a panic attack on the train ride home following one of the worst nights of my life, Uncle E's random doodling videos kept me company, they helped me steady my mind, and calmed the trembling. I do not know how I would have gotten through that day without that video, I've silently lurked the comments and channel for years and tonight finally decided as I come in, sick and tired ready for sleep I decided to share my thanks, on a video that has a sound that first got me into ASMR, The Rain.
Thank you Uncle E for Years of Comfort to both me and over a Million others.
rip that's all ill say
💀💀🦍
I’ve always loved this kind of setting. You mentioned it makes you feel quite down in the dumps, but I’m weirdly the opposite sometimes. Rain makes any day for me a million times better and it’s so peaceful in the fall. Hope the weather gets better for you, although knowing you live in eastern Pennsylvania I will probably have the same weather.
Hope you have a great day!
Being completely honest, on days like those I'm already running on fumes past my morning coffee. I think the key as you say is to keep focused/busy, and don't let yourself isolate (both physically and mentally).
I absolutely love the rain. I don't need to anything to cope with it, honestly rain helps me cope with the rest of life. The sort of tired icky feeling you describe on a rainy day is something I have to deal with nearly everyday. Sometimes the rain coming out will inspire me to actually get up and go for a walk. I love the cool breeze, general lack of people, the sound of rain hitting my umbrella as it keeps me safe from the wetness. There's nothing better. And when I'm not energised to walk, getting cosy in bed with a cup of tea, listening to the rain, a cat on my lap if I'm lucky... that's my idea of a perfect day.
Love the fall time of year!
Its refreshing to walk into these woods . . . Its like a therapy of your soul . . .
Hope you’re not too cold uncle rift! Its getting into the negatives here in Canada :)
i get super good mood when it's raining. i don't rly like the sun. when it's raining there is almost no people outside and i like it to feel the raindrops falling on my body. it is rly relaxing to me. i also like thunder storms it's making me feel rly comfy. maybe i'm just weird... but for me it's the best weather.
I actually like rain a lot. Ain't no bad weather for walking, just bad clothing. :D ( Excluding storms, ahem. ) It's lovely to go for a walk in the forest during weather like this too, since it usually means no one else will be out there!
I live in England and I can relate to how a dreary day can bring your mood down. I suffer from depression and winter is really hard on my mental health. Your videos help a lot thank you.
I like it when he does videos like these so we get an interesting and calm break from the rift universe, and a true personal insight to the genius of Paul and his life and thoughts.
O
Got home feeling pretty defeated and unmotivated from that past few days. You could say I was feeling pretty blah; and then ever so serendipitously, Paul drops us this gem❤
I feel the happiest during cloudy weather. The sun is very demanding. Very guilting. Like if I'm not slaving away in it I have done something wrong. The sun is necessary, but cloudy days are amazing for connecting to nature.
when i can't reflect on the gloriousness of the pretty world around, it often forces me to reflect on other things. oftentimes, this can mean self reflection, like where my happiness is, and whether i could be happy in the most barren of fields. but then again i suppose i am lucky, because i find a lot of beauty in a lot of things, so i don't grow tired of self-reflecting like someone might grow tired of day after day (and could maybe get too far into their own heads, rather than in my case, not in my own head often enough to know it that well)
man-- this just sparks a desire for conversation. i need go on a walk in drearier weather with people and just discuss random thoughts. it's great to be heard. it's far more valuable than any view.
Everything about this channel can be summarized in "A guy wants to make you feel great and to slay any bad emotions."
Its been amazing since I first was introduced to Corvus, and I honestly love it to bits.
I live in essentially a cold Savannah in Alberta and rain here is not too common throughout the year. Whenever it comes I really treasure it.
I always find that putting on my nice jacket and boots and enjoying a walk in the rain is always a event I look forward to especially since it almost never rains down in Arizona so the rain is a welcome treat I love putting on some somber music and walking the rain soaked streets
This was great ER, I love it whenever you do these talks especially in the rain or out in nature. Hope you and your family are doing well this holiday season.
I live on the western coast of Norway near the ocean and it's grey, rainy and dark most of the time. Especially now when the sun barely appears during the day time. It's tough and it seems like everything is harder. Going outside doesn't have the same appeal. But our summers make up for it, because the sun barely sets and its nice and warm and bright from may to august.
I love this weather. Its something I feel great in. Everything about it. Its perfect.
My approach on this kind of weather is why I like it so much, with dreary or "bad" weather, it allows us to see the positive things in our day more clearly. It also allows us to feel bad in the right environment, it kind of sucks to be upset or down and the sun is shining, or if something bad happens on a sunny day, it just doesn't sit right. Rainy days let us be sad and upset when it happens and let's us appreciate the positives and look forward to it.
Your natural speaking voice is still very relaxing no worries
the vibes this video gives off can't be described using simple words, this is literally perfect. thank you.
Your rambling videos, and the clips where you ramble, are the best. I love listening, gives me something to think about and relax to.
Having a good day today, but also an intense go go go type of day. This is beyond helpful in slowing me down a little. Thank you
If the world had more people like you I feel that we’d be much better off:)
I've alwats said this but ER is the kinda guy you'd sit next to on a park bench and end up having the most lifechanging and enjoyable conversation ever exchanged between two humans
much like that one tree holding on with all those leaves when the seasons come to this-- you go, man! you go!
Raindrops onto the umbrella.. omg that's is beyond relaxing 😌
I grew up in California and used to love hiking on rainy days. Maybe one difference is that we have oak trees which keep their leaves year-round so the forest doesn't look quite as dormant. I also always felt that the rain brings other things to life like streams and creeks, some animals are more active, the patterns of multi-colored leaves on the ground. Even the energy in the air is alive in a different way than on a sunny day. You don't see that in other seasons. But perhaps if you think positively, a dormant forest is merely sleeping, gathering energy for the spring.
I'd kill for more of this. I love your ramblings
Yessir. Thanks again. We appreciate everything you do!
“As healthy as an astronaut” is something someone told me but had forgotten for so long till now.
I live in Oregon and have grown to love the rain and overcast, sometimes I don't even like sunny
I really appreciate your videos man, especially this kind, thanks!
this was literally perfect and exactly what i needed to de-stress. and your speaking voice is very nice
I love these kinds of videos, Er just chilling, they are always wonderful
I love the rain it makes me feel calm and relaxed 😌

Honestly seems really peaceful, just out in a forest alone with your thoughts. Rain's a plus. Hard to think around crowded cities with constant noises that aren't from yourself or your immediate area.
These types of videos are always welcome, ER! They help
Always loved rainy days personally, living in Southern California it was a wonderful change of pace. Now that I live in Missouri I get those days all the time and I love it because it feels so cozy.
as someone without a proper father figure, this felt very healing, especially the openness about mental health and stuff. I hope that doesn't sound weird or anything, this was just really calming. :))
You really do know how to make anyones day better
This is my favorite type of weather, I’m usually gazing outside or sitting in the rain enjoying every moment
In Washington it was usually cloudy or rainy from pretty much October to June. It wasnt all that bad having mostly evergreen trees around and nice summers.
❤❤❤ I love the rain 🌧️
I haven't felt free from technology like this in 7 years 💀😭, thanks so much for having me feel natural again!
Thank you for sharing the beautiful walk with us
Finally a rain video again. Watched it 10x already
Clicked on this for the beautiful weather…I’d argue the opposite effect, a gorgeous, grey day where all the colors are more vibrant, the gentle sound of rain, the feeling on your skin reminding you how human you are…I’d take it over a sunny day any day. Or maybe my brain is just wired backwards…
i've always preferred this kind of dreary weather. It's very relaxing to me and there's also no bugs out.
I love "dreary" weather! overcast skies and rain make me feel alive and hopeful. Blue skies and sun make me feel sad, even physically ill.
And the opposite of "sick as a dog" is "healthy as a horse"!
this really helped me focus on my coursework, thank you :) your voice is really relaxing
This came at the perfect time, thank you ER.
This video was great. I enjoy listening to the rain and the chat.
I personally love this weather a lot. I’m in ohio so the weather is just about the same for me here. it’s comforting to me and I’d absolutely love to go for a walk like that right about now. hiking in the rain and gloom is one of my favorite pastimes.
