I gave up drinking coffee 30 years ago. Best thing I ever did. Had terrible withdrawal symptoms for a few weeks but then was fine. Had a cup about 20 years ago and I was bouncing off the walls. Never again.

Thank you for sharing. I have been caffeine free for a couple of months now. I am doing some experimentation to see if caffeine was impacting my cortisol levels.
I have learned 2 important things:
      1. My sleep quality has changed. I am definitely having more dreams than I was. And this is considering that I wasn't drinking caffeine within 10 hours of bed (like I mentioned in this video).
      2. I feel almost exactly the same. I was worried that I would deal with a lot of fatigue, but it appears that caffeine wasn't doing much. I have the same amount of energy in the morning, no crash in the afternoon. It appears that caffeine wasn't doing near as much as I thought it was

You are very welcome. I love talking about all things related to sleep. Sleep is the backbone of our health, but we are willing to sacrifice it for about anything else.
Let me know if you have any questions. I will have a video about alcohol and sleep ready next week. I also have a video coming out about napping soon

What are your thoughts on a coffee nap? Drink a cup of coffee and nap for 10mins. Would that rid adenosine?

Caffeine naps are an interesting concept for sure. I will put out a video on napping in a couple of weeks.
I personally only nap when I have COVID, which thankfully isn't often ;). I definitely agree that short naps are the way to go. NASA actually studied napping and found that the ideal length was 26 minutes, but even a 10 minute nap can have an impact on your nervous system.
Caffeine naps allow you to come out of a short nap with a bit of zip. They also minimize that grogginess that can occur after a nap. This is actually why I don't nap. I come out of them feeling worse than when I started.
My only warning has to do with timing. Don't use caffeine napping if it is so late in the day that the caffeine will impact your sleep at night.
Stay tuned for the video. I cover some neat stuff. There are some serious pros and cons to napping. The key is to figure out if they are right for you.

It is so interesting that you would post this video today. I'm 64 years old and when I was a little kid in like third grade I had to go see a special Doctor because my school told my mom I had attention issues. So This Doctor told my mom that I was Hyperactive and he suggested my mom try giving me a stimulant like coffee. Apparently that work as my attention span became very long and I could concentrate on things like Math (UGH). Mind you this was long before they had drugs like Ritalin. So for my entire life I have always had a coffee in hand sipping on it throughout the day. Whenever I got jittery I knew it was time to take a sip. People of course thought I was really weird because sometimes I would have to drink a full cup sometimes even two cups of coffee in order to get tired and sleepy. The exact opposite of what happens to most people who drink coffee. So I've been on this health kick for the last year and dropped 100 lbs, I'm eating a carnivore diet after finding out I had a Gluten sensitivity and because I have many autoimmune problems. Well along the way I decided to stop drinking Caffeinated coffee and then I quit coffee altogether because I was having trouble sleeping etc.... But just today I have gone back to drinking full caffeinated coffee because I believe it is my hyperactivity causing my sleep problems !

Thank you for sharing. First off, congrats on your AMAZING progress. You should be very proud!
I am currently ketovore, but I am planning a carnivore experiment soon :)
It sounds like your doctor was way ahead of their time. Your response to caffeine is not typical, but it definitely makes sense in light of your attention issues. My wife and 20 year-old stepson are both medicated (with stimulants) for ADD. If I took one of their pills I would be up for days, but they actually promote sleep when taken by the right person.
What is odd, though, is that my wife is very sensitive to caffeine. She takes stimulants multiple times per day to help her function, but she would be up all night if she had a cup of coffee at 4 PM
      Keep up the great work!

I hope that it helps, Barb. I have noticed even further sleep improvements during my caffeine-free experiment. Keep me posted :)
