As a kid playing this game, whenever he said "Ya Grinched!" I always heard it as "Yeah, Grinch!" like he was congratulating himself. Makes more sense than how it actually is.
That was the way I heard it during this review as well. It sounds stupid no matter which way you look at it, though

These reviews are great, but what really sells them is Shane’s voice acting. It’s so unique and animated, he’d be a great voice actor if doesn’t already do that kinda work!
There have been times when I thought they brought in someone else to contribute voices, but every time it turns out to be Shane. His range is incredible. I can't believe he doesn't do professional voice acting at least as a side gig.

As owner of the PS1 game, this video brought back so many memories of playing the game growing up. It can be summed up with: I never knew there was a woods, a lake, or a dump.

The entire Dump land mine area can be done without the jump gadget. Just do a butt pound every time you jump and you'll stay in the air a bit longer and jump farther

I loved the 2000s Grinch, Everything from the "whoovile concept" to Grinch's wacky antics and crazy jokes he can pull on.
Same. As a live action goes it was very faithful to the source martial, Jim Cary and Max were perfect, and the set design was creative.
I too love the 2000 film and watch it every year along with the 1966 special and the 2018 film.

5:10 that's kind of like "Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde" for the NES. If played as Dr. Jekyll, he has an attack, the cane, with the cane he can poke his adversaries, but if you tried many enemies, it doesn't do anything, some will hurt you if you use the cane on them, the only thing you can defeat with a cane is a bee.
I think you can disable the bombs with it too

My dad picked me up during his lunch break on our half day before Christmas Break and took me to our local video store and I rented it. Put it on my Christmas list!
I LOVED the Grinch Copter, because I loved anything that gave you a flight power. That’s why I liked Yooka-Laylee
I loved this game as a kid too. For and Bugs Bunny and Tax Time Busters were my favorites as A kid.

It is good. Maybe not as good as sheep raider. But this game put my little brain to the limit as a kid and I loved it. Is hard to find good puzzle games nowadays.
This game is far from perfect but I feel like it does get over-hated too.
I think it's good. Except for some of the spinning jumps that seem to be TOO precise.

Oh man, I loved this game as a kid! As janky as it was, I honestly loved that the devs actually expanded something from the movie, rather than having to stick to the 2,5 locations that were in it. I always like when tie-ins don't have to be contained within the restraints of what was approved for the original one. The egg farming thing though? Too real.
I remember the Chronicles of Riddick video game did the same thing, being a standalone title instead of a remake of one of the films. But The Chronicles of Riddick Escape from Butcher Bay was actually good and not divisive like this game is.
Considering The Grinch was able to steal so much without being caught, I wonder if the Phantom Thieves and Sly Cooper could learn from him.

Hardly, you have to remember who he stole it from. Those Whovillians are incredible gullible and lack law enforcement.
In the game they seems to have a second dump guarded with land mines though so I guess they spent all their money on protecting their garbage while leaving their houses totally unprotected. The only thing the Phantom thieves and Sly Cooper could learn from them is to pick more inept people to rob.
Here’s my head-cannon: The Phantom Thieves went into his snow themed palace, snatched his heart, and that’s why The Grinch returns everything at the end of the story. You can’t tell me this isn’t how it happened.

I get the feeling that this MIGHT be a game reskin. Like, it was in development to be something else but changed to be Grinch themed at the last second.
Heck I've played this game since the year it came out. Had it on the dreamcast and I love it. Fantastic sound track, and I really like the voice actor for the Grinch and Narrator. It's kinda like Mario 64 with its several objectives per level
The one who voiced the Narrator in the game (not heard in the review, sadly) is the same for Space Ghost from “Space Ghost: Coast to Coast!”

Oh man, I actually had this game as a kid. I loved it at the time. Collecting the blueprints and unlocking and using the gadgets was so much fun. But I had a lot more patience for the jankiness of it all than I would today. I remember even getting quite frustrated at it, but I kept at it. Guess that says something, not sure what though.
I think it says thay kids have a hard time of seeing the bigger picture. Especially if it's regarding one of the 1st games a kid plays. And their curiosity/wonder of the game due to the subject matter.
Then later you grow up and realize all the flaws after shedding those rose colored lenses or rather Kid colored lenses. Or some shiz like that idk.
@@bobbysavagehill also the older you get the more picky you become and also the less free time you have, so you definitely have no patience as adult to be trying passing the challenges in a game that is difficult due to developers and game designers incompetence.

This game was like it was made by the Grinch himself. Everything in this game is from inconsistency toward the movie and game to the atrocious controls and horrific game designs on the background and characters. Guess the Grinch really did ruin Christmas....for gamers and everyone.

Funny how the ps1/DC version was made by the team who did Bugs Bunny: Lost in Time and Time Busters. Two very decent games!

*Looney Tunes: Acme Arsenal*-Most infamous Wii shovelware yet to be covered on this channel.
*Psybadek*-Bizarre PS1 hybrid of Platforming and "Extreme Sports" with terrible audio and some of the worst controls EVER...
*Frogger: The Great Quest*-Hilariously Bad attempt to turn the beloved arcade game into a 3D Platformer (there's also a PS1 Frogger. I kinda liked it, but it has a Notoriously Unfair Difficulty Curve)
*YIIK: A Postmodern RPG*-As the title implies, it tries to be a trope subversive game kinda like Omori, Undertale, Yume Nikki or LISA, but doesn't understand what made any of those games work.
WHATEVER the next video is, here's hoping for a 2022 that is NOT Just Bad!

I believe Shane said at one point that the best reviews come from if they discover something new about a game that hadn't been talked about before and then make a video so they could bring it up.

The Ovo thing is from a constructed language (basically one that was made up but is still real and speakable enough to be recognized by linguists) called Esperanto, in case you didn’t know

@@Mankey619 Yeah, more or less, but as SpearSharp stated, I really didn’t worry over the flaws, I just played it since it was something different than replaying Crash or Spyro for the umpteenth time.
Then again, I also enjoyed the heck outta Mission Impossible on the N64 (ironically the worst of the two versions in spite of the game itself not being looked fondly on by modern critics), so I probably don’t have that high of a standard in regards to video gaming to begin with.

You know what I love about you guys? Most CZcamsrs intentionally playing bad games review like one or two levels or moments and then say “I can’t take it anymore” and end the video. You guys push all the way through and let everyone see all the game has and exactly how terrible the games are without having to suffer through it ourselves.

I imagined Santa laughing like Lex Luthor in Superman 64 every time you fail the present catching portion of the game.
This one I actually don't remember being that bad. I remember it being a little slow, but at least have an interesting concept. I found myself playing the demo quite a bit. Not one of my faves, but... interesting at least.
It was probably good because it was a demo, which is pretty much just the good parts of a game
@@ChanceKearns My brother who has autism desperately wants to find the demo CD which we got in a cereal box 20 plus years ago. We are most likely never going to find it, but I told him I could maybe download the demo online for him to play. I have yet to do it though. I assume there will be compatibility issues and so forth.

I really like this review style you have now! Almost no gags, just a condensed walkthrough, dealing with pains in the games in order they appear... I kinda miss the "angry review" genre on CZcams because it's real fun watching games that are SO hard to play due to bad design. Keep it up, Rerez! With JonTron and ProJared only doing reviews once in a blue moon, and Caddicarus switching to marathons that spend a minute on each game, there's real few reviewers of bad games left.
Sure doesn’t help that a good many of the classic “angry reviewers” seem to be clueless twats in real life, or that they’ve unintentionally contributed to the culture of deadly angry polarization that’s come to permeate much of society in the last 10-15 years. :/
@@christmashake8968 Yeah, I still love the Nerd and James seems to be a down to Earth guy, a nerdy metalhead who's into movie rental era and B-movies, whose parodies are a bit self-aware about the nerd culture, like a lot of AVGN reviews is about being mad at things that actually annoyed us as kids (I still can't land that plane), and just doing over the top reaction to it.
I don't like when reviews of bad games, like, look at "what can I make fun of" and grab the low-hanging fruit for internet jokes, but when they try to play the damn things and have to fight the controls, design or bugs... which is relatable. Like, make a review from gamer perspective, not from a critic.
I don't want to read videogame critics, movie ones don't get what people are looking for in the films enough already... I want players to share their experience. Notice how let's plays killed the walkthrough magazine and review industry? I watch playthroughs but for some games, a full stream is too much, so a heavily edited let's play with some weighted commentary on the things you notice after playing it is... better than just Irate Angry Guy 345 yelling at the screen or worse, just repeating complaints they read somewhere.
Yeah, I just want funny bad game review, not anger and saltiness and ripping into popular games that people don’t mind.

I saw The Grinch with Jim Carey. It’s not something for me (grew up on the original animation) but it always warms my heart to hear how it touched others.
Note: I’m a real pain when it comes to Christmas movies and can’t seem to enjoy anything outside of the 60’s classics: Rankin Bass movies are always my holiday go tos.

(Not true) Fun Fact: The studio that made the PS1 version of this game, Behavior Interactive, actually made this game as an inside joke. Before they got the license to the game, employees would always prank a particular employee, who was nicknamed "Jim", and would shout "Ya Grinched!" after every prank. Once they got the license to the Grinch, they decided to make the entire game one big prank by making the game too complicated and unplayable. When the game was finished, they made Jim be a beta tester. Jim reported about how unplayable the game was but the employees told him to keep going. After he finally made it to the credits, he was greeted with the words "Ya Grinched!" He quit after that. After he left, the developers made a better, more playable, and less pranky version of the game. However, they accidentally sent the wrong version to Konami and now everyone who bought and played this game have been grinched.

It seriously is amazing how much effort you put into these videos. The animation and editing is so stylized and entertaining that it adds so much extra to these reviews of shovelware.
This game looks like it started life as another unrelated game, and the devs reworked it when when they thought they could cash in on a movie tie-in.

I LOVED this game. I thought I was the only one who knew it existed. Lol.
I remember this... from Playstation Underground. Long ago, there was a video on one of the discs (I forget which month) talking about working on this game. And man... they sounded so PROUD of it. For one thing, they were excited about how you go to other places besides whoville and the grinch's cave. They also were proud of how you need to find blueprints for gadgets out in the world, and bring them back to the grinch's cave to create them.
Man, that seems like ancient history to me at this point. Don't know if anybody else remembers it.
Another fantastic video! Honestly the production value of these is always phenomenal. I actually remember playing this game back in the day with my brother…..we sat down and played it one time and never played it again…😂😂. I’d like to make a recommendation for a future video. My favorite video game of all time is “Sphinx and the Cursed Mummy” for the Xbox, PS2, and GameCube. It’s my favorite because of nostalgia and the idea behind it but there are plenty of faults with it that I think you guys would have a hell of a fun time exploring. Keep up the great work!

I think pretty much all of your criticisms are valid, and I remember when I played this game a lot of parts were pretty frustrating, especially the Dump level, but I still feel like cutting this game a bit of slack overall. For a licensed movie game they did a lot here in terms of creating a 3D platformer with a decent number of objectives to complete and upgrades to unlock. Not that I think one should give it a free pass for all the obvious problems, just that I've seen games that were far more phoned in, especially in the latter days of licensed movie tie-ins.
Fun fact: the developers changed their name to Behavior and later developed Dead by Daylight.

They also made Naughty Bear and the Brave movie tie in game.
