    All I got to say is Samsung should be ashamed because a 450$ 12. Megapixel camera phone outshine a 108 megapixel BS magic binning cropping overdone before it even gets to the algorithm sensor. Samsung needs to learn that with the preprocessing before it gets to the computational photography it gets lost. That's why the Pixel 6 and 6 pro does not do much with the 50 megapixel camera other than the basic binning. Even though the binning itself is still unnecessary, phones need access to the full frame and full megapixel. All I got to say is this comparison makes Samsung look laughable. I just wish Google would give the pixel a real ultrawide though.. honestly, the phone camera system that makes the most sense for mobile photography is the iPhone. It's still a 12 megapixel camera. They just made the censor itself bigger, which is the right way of doing it. Instead of adding more pixels that get lost, they should just add a bigger sensor size and 4K really is all we really need on a phone. If you're that serious about content creation, you'll get a dedicated camera. Phones are supposed to be for a quick shot of your daily life. It's not supposed to be your wedding photographer award-winning national geographic shot!

    Do you have scene optimizer on the Samsung phone turned on, or off? You'd only want it on for very specific cases, such as taking moon shots. With scene optimizer off, you get much more natural colors, less saturation, etc.. I leave it off for most of the time, and the photos usually come out much better looking.

    I think the S22 shines in telephoto the most. It does capture slightly wider shots, but not enough to feel like it's a night and day difference.
    Obviously the front camera being 4k is a bit of an unfair comparison. But the overall photos were a toss up for me. The 6a really stood out in quite a few of them, where I think the S22 over saturated a bit and blurred some things that maybe shouldn't have been.

    The fact that a $450 budget phone is even in a comparison with a $1200 flagship is telling. I give the Pixel a clear win in still photos, almost every instance. Video is close, with some back and forth on my preference in this footage. If all you care about is the camera, there's no compelling reason to pick the Samsung EVEN IF they were the same price (and they're not). "Newest" hardware is meaningless, the end result photos is what matters. With limitations on the glass you can fit into any phone package, the computational processing is the frontier for phone camera quality. Google is just dominant in that critical area - even their budget phone cameras are awesome.

    Great video comparison video with a huge amount of comparisons, I wonder how the S22 Ultra would do if you used the 12 MP on the main camera. Or maybe you showed and I some how over looked it.
    I could be incorrect but with the main camera still shots with always using 108 MP doesn't always produce the best image, it does create the most detail which you can see when you zoom in on the image due the increase MP. But if you use 12 MP binning I believe it may produce a cleaner more pleasing shot, I believe. Using the 108 MP is ideal if you wish to crop the image or just zoom in to see detail in the background.
    This is what I noticed with my s20+ 64MP great for cropping but the regular MP produced a nicer cleaner image.
    You would think 108 MP should produce a better image but I think the 12 MP on the main camera may do a better job.
    I have not played with the S22 Ultra very much. but I used a mode where I believe it took multiple shots and created a greater depth of field and a sharper image... with that said when I zoomed in, I didn't like the image as much so taking a photo in this particular mode produced an impressive image, but not so much when you zoom in, but this was for a product shot, not scenery.
    I have not compared in great detail as of yet but in a quick comparison it seems my S20+ 64MP may produce the same amount as detail as my S22 Ultra? You would think I would take the time to do a detailed comparison and I will in the future, just busy in life and when I do I want to take the time to do it right, but at a quick glance they seemed almost the same amount of detail.
    I am by no means well educated in the world of photography, but I do obsess over detail as I photograph small items and zooming in to see detail. I am still learning, but I think large MP is only good for zooming in or cropping, the 12MP binning I think produces a better image.
    Feel free to correct me or confirm this thought, or maybe this is commonly known by others and if so forgive me for my ignorance!

    • @subz424
      @subz424 Před rokem +1

      That's actually why I came here to the comments. Maybe a result of ignorance instead of malice. He brings up the focus on pixel 6a's computation for images, but ignored using the main s22 ultra's pixel binning (and associated processing) that improves the image quality there. My s22 ultra 12mp pixels are much higher quality (not resolution) than using 108mp, unprocessed, mode. Though, Samsung needs to be doing whatever Google is doing for their image processing, since for the hardware they've got, they've always had amazing photos relative to other phones with the same specs.

    Pixel 6a does a very good job and in some cases I like their pics more, but no it doesn't win like many people is sharing here.. Not sure if they are just watching the video on a phone or they are just too emotionally invested on Pixel and want to convince themselves that it has a better camera.

For the price difference, I would rather buy a dedicated compact camera like a Sony RX100 that will smoke them both

    Everything else: Samsung wins 😂 I don't know about you guys, but I know for a fact that any decent digital SLR will always wipe the floor with any smartphone camera. It comes down to the sensor size: smaller sensors will inevitably produce more "digital noise" at higher megapixel counts. DSLRs don't have the same space concerns as a smartphone, and can make room for larger, higher-quality sensors.
