  • Many women unknowingly sabotage their own postpartum recovery and thus unnecessarily slow down their recovery.
So, in this video, Nathalie Kaufmann, Pregnancy & Birth Consultant and TCM Therapist, and Mathias Ritter, Researcher and Science Geek, discuss the 6 most important ways most women sabotage their own postpartum recovery. First, they explain how expectations of others can make you abandon your own plans of postpartum relaxation and recovery. Second, they explain why certain foods are important in your postpartum recovery, particularly, if you find it difficult to pass stools initially. Third, they discuss how both your body and mind send you signals which you should not ignore if you want to make your postpartum recovery easier and faster. And they explain why self-care is the key to speed up your postpartum recovery.
Finally, they also present the most important tool for pain relief during your postpartum recovery which can also help you heal faster during the postpartum period.

Thanks so much for watching! 😊 Very often, Nathalie treats women who have a hard time recovering from their birth. And very often it comes down to 6 simple things which women do (or don’t do) which sabotage their own postpartum recovery and thus unnecessarily prolong it. This is what this video is about.

Recovering from an injury is exactly what postpartum feels like. Thank you for pointing this out. I mean I do have stitches, I am bleeding, my abdominal muscles aren't where they're supposed to be, my hormones are giving me a hard time and I am caring 24/7 for a newborn with very little sleep. Of course I am not working properly during this time. People need to stop expecting so much of mothers who just gave birth.

      Hi there 😊,
thanks a lot for sharing this with us! 😊
We could not agree more! The problem is also that so many women are left alone during their postpartum recovery because their partners have to get back to work. We also know couples who have no support network where they live because their families live somewhere else. So, it's really a big challenge for so many women....
Anyways: we hope that you recover well! And please be assured: things are going to improve eventually (same applies to hormones)...! ❤️

I have eaten so badly or not eating at all right after my little one was born... I just had no desire to cook and even eat. Round the clock nursing and feeding made me feel like a really tired human baby bottle. My body doesn't feel my own anymore. I felt like I had PTSD the 2 weeks after giving birth... The way the doctors induced me was so traumatic and not what I was expecting, I literally cried every time I had to use the bathroom, even when I just have to urinate. It was triggering the memory of what happened to me. I still get upset when I think about what happened, but it's getting better. I haven't told anyone what I went through because I'm not ready. The only person who knows is my fiance who was there.
I wished I found your channel earlier, but I didn't find these videos until 3 weeks after delivery. Giving birth is not pretty, and postpartum is filled with issues that no one ever talks about... Because if they did, no one would want to get pregnant.

      Hi there ❤️,
we are really terribly sorry about your terrible experience! 😥
Unfortunately, we see similar cases like yours every now and then. They often come to us for postpartum treatments. So, we can confirm: you are not alone. However, of course, this does not make things better for you.
So, since nothing can be changed about the way you experienced your delivery, here are some things that might help you cope with your current situation:
      1. Look for professional help! Whenever a woman had a traumatic experience, it is very important that she finds ways to come to terms with her past. If the delivery was particularly traumatic, then there is only one way to help: a professional therapist. Not sure if this is an option for you, but it would be the best help you can get! Ideally, you look for someone who specializes in such things.
      2. Alternatively, look for local support groups! Your hospital can normally help you find them!
      3. Look for someone to help out while you recover from birth! This can be your mother or sister or a friend who helps you with the household or other things so that you find time to rest.
      4. Eat well!! Please don't underestimate this! You cannot keep your strength when you don't eat well during the recovery phase. Also, your mental state will deteriorate if you don't eat well! Here is a video which might help you: czcams.com/video/Uvf3dMOSMpc/video.html
      5. Exercise: as soon as your postpartum recovery is over and as soon as your doctor allows you to, start to exercise! Exercise really comes with a ton of benefits, not only for your body but also for your mind! Start slowly, like going for a walk in the nature. And gradually increase your activities.
      6. If you can find an experienced acupuncturist and if this is an option for you at all, have acupuncture treatments! They cannot only help with your mental state. They can also help your body to recover! So use this option, if it is available!
We really hope you recover very fast and that you feel well again very soon!! ❤️
We wish you ALL THE BEST for you and your baby!! ❤️

Thank you so much guys for these videos. I was very worried about the delivery of my baby, how will it be like. I previously had long labor hours with my two children, in which the last was I felt like I don't want to conceive anymore. I fell pregnant after 7 years of my baby delivery and this lead me to research on how to have a quick labor or dilate faster; that's when I came across your videos. I am so glad to say I had a very short labor as compared to the previous ones. I was 39+5 weeks when I went for my check-up and my gynecologist told me that I am about 2cm dilated and if I happen to get to 40 weeks they will have to induce me. In the afternoon I started having cramps and thought that they were Braxton hicks and they intensified and got close apart, that's when I told my husband that we have to go to the hospital and it was before 01:00 am. At 02:07 am I delivered my baby girl and my husband didn't believe it cause it was not long after he left the hospital. Much love from South Africa 🔥

please believe us when we tell you: we know the problem! MANY women complain about the same issue!
We can only encourage you to be very clear with the people around you! Make it clear that recovering from a delivery is very much like recovering from an accident. And if you HAD an accident, they would not demand from you to do housework and to cook for everybody.
So, don't hesitate to be "egoistic"!! It's now time for YOU to recover! After all, you also have a newborn to care for...

      Hi there! 😊
We can certainly do a video on this topic however, we cannot say WHEN exactly we can record it... 😬
First of all, please note that hemorrhoids after a pregnancy normally disappear in a matter of a few weeks only. On top of that, the best remedy are hemorrhoid creams that you can get in your local pharmacy. It's also always a good idea to talk with your midwife or doctor about your problem because this is a very common problem which is why they normally have something readily available for you...
Unfortunately, this is all we can tell you for now.... We hope it will still help you!!

      Hi there ❤️,
first of all: CONGRATULATIONS on your baby from the 2 of us!!! 🥳🥳🥳
Actually, witch hazel is a product that you would apply right after birth. I doubt that it helps a lot now, after 2 weeks, unless you still suffer from perineal pain (which you should not at this point)...
So, they question I want to ask is: have you already talked with your doctor about what you experience?
The problem is that severe headaches should not be taken lightly. They can be a warning sign when they occur postpartum...
      🤔

it's very difficult to give you an answer because it very much depends on your case and, in particular, how your delivery went. Therefore, we kindly ask you to get in touch with your doctor who is familiar with your delivery. Tell them about your concerns so that they can have a closer look at you!

We can only tell you this much: most doctors recommend waiting for a couple of weeks (most say 4-6 weeks) before taking a bath (no matter if cold or warm). They argue that during that time, you are still somewhat dilated which is why they recommend waiting...
      We hope this helps! 😊
We wish you ALL THE BEST for you and your baby!! ❤️

      Hi there! 😊
First of all, CONGRATULATIONS from the 2 of us!!! 🥳🥳🥳 It is really really GREAT to hear that our exercises helped you!! It makes us SUPER proud!! 😊😊
What you describe could just be a side effect of birth. However, if you are concerned about the problem, we strongly recommend talking with your doctor. Unfortunately, we cannot be a big help here because this really requires an exam by a doctor...
So please, don't hesitate to see a doctor, particularly, if the problem does not improve!
We wish you a GOOD RECOVERY and again CONGRATULATIONS on your newborn!! ❤️❤️
