Coolant kills more engines than oil. Great video. Seen it if a JD as well. 7700 hrs and kits looked perfect due to oil changes. No coolant maintenance led to pin holes in the sleeves for a premature rebuild. Fluids are not cheap but a lot cheaper than engine parts. Dump them frequently.

Indeed; coolant neglect destroys engines. I pulled the oil pan on a 3406 Cat and noticed what I thought was a spider web strung across a cylinder, and I thought "how did a spider get into the crankcase of an engine that was just running yesterday?" before I notice the water dripping from the bottom of the liner onto the shop floor. Cavitation holes on all liners, ant one had poked through, but dozens were close to poking through. I had found the reason for the engine oil milkshake.

I just had my engine overhauled 12.7 pre emissions but the shop never told me any recommendations for oil and im about to do my first oil change tomorrow as well as the fan clucth but I think I'm going to have them replace the hub as well while they're in there. I do have some corrosion but it's not as bad as the engine in the video but when I bought the truck a little over a year ago it had almost an inch of grease caked onto the block and I've been scraping it off and cleaning it religiously so can I just scotch brite it and paint it to protect it..? Even my new head already has surface rust forming towards the back im assuming from water coming down off the window. Its it a freightliner classic.. any info would be greatly appreciated.

I dont understand how external corrosion on the engine or radiator can have anything to do with whats going on internal? Road salt makes everything corrode, copper radiators corrode even faster.. mine was disintegrating and fins were crumbling but inside was like new. Also the inside of engine is not exposed to anything on the outside so they are not even related. It can look like hell on the outside and look new on the inside... mine does. Road salt kills everything on the outside but cant get inside the engine.

Thank you for sharing. I am explaining that the signs of excessive corrosion can indicate low maintenance for owners looking to purchase a used semi truck.

Why not just change over to Extended life Red coolant?

Great advice. Ensure to check with test strips as well.

Wouldn't it be smarter to just get one completely rebuilt and or but one new from Detroit?

It's electrolysis it happens when coolant is running through the engine it produces static electricity and it causes cavitation CATs are bad about it to, they make additives you can run in your coolant to help cut down on it but they say this coolant your supposed to run now already has it

REAL MEN CHECK COOLANT WITH THE ENGINE RUNNING.

Checking the coolant while hot may result in the coolant being pushed out and possibly burning.

When you are making a video, please do not repeat yourself! You have done it zo many times in this video, that is my biggest take away, not what are some of the things to look out for.
If the people who watch your videos miss something, they can replay a portion, or if they do something wrong or think something wrong and blame you, you have the video to back you up.
You cannot hold some persons hands and lose everyone else. Each person needs to be responsible for themselves.
    Thank you
