Daft Punk was an electronic duo from France. This is a medley of 7 of their songs. EDIT: Okay, I just finished watching the whole thing. They recorded this in a closet in Kevin and Avi's apartment and filmed it in the kitchen. Cost: $400. This video won them their first grammy. One of them has been missing since 2017, Avi (the bass in the beanie) left amicably and was replaced by Matt Sallee. They're still going strong!
They videoed this in one of their apts for like 400.00 and earned them their 1st Grammy, they are the only Acapella group to have a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame
Loved your reaction! Here are a few suggestions to add to your list: Imagine, Mary Did You Know?, Say Something, Gold, Come All Ye Faithful, Kiss From A Rose, O Holy Night.
You don’t sound stupid as you are discovering brand new things. Feel free to say what something seems like to you. It doesn’t make you stupid or wrong! I very much enjoy your PTX reactions. Us Pentaholics will politely help you, and provide information on what the song or cover is *intended* to be (as we’ve learned it), however I would think Pentatonix would not care or mind either way as long as you’re entertained. Pentatonix love their fans!! ❤ 🫶🏻
This video cost 400$ it won them a Grammy. This was filmed in a closet there was no studio. This was in the early days and is a blend of alot of songs by the group , Daft Punk.
This is a mashup of Daft Punk songs, Daft Punk being the name of a French electronic music duo; they disbanded in 2021. You can find out more about them here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daft_Punk At the time Pentatonix recorded this their publisher was Madison Gate, a minor subsidiary of Sony. Madison Gate specializes in publishing movie soundtracks, which makes it a less than ideal publisher for a group like Pentatonix. Even so, it was better than just posting everything to CZcams and hoping to get some patrons, which is what they'd been doing before. Madison Gate didn't have a recording studio - they'd had no need of one for movie soundtracks - but Pentatonix had already discovered that a closet had good acoustics so they were cool with recording audio tracks there. Madison Gate DID hook Pentatonix up with an excellent video recording company named FifGen. PTX had a venue lined up for this video shoot, but it fell through at the last minute, so someone at FifGen suggested that they get some black sheets and set up a sort of photo booth in Avi and Kevin's kitchen. The single ring light came out of PTX's $400 budget for this shoot, as did the makeup, presumably including the blue contact lenses. (Kevin's eyes couldn't tolerate the contacts, hence the visor, which is reministic of the helmets Daft Punk wore to protect their identities. Judging by how red Avi's eyes were, he must have had trouble with the contacts also.) I'm not sure, but I THINK FifGen supplied the black light. I don't know who edited the video, either FifGen or Ben Bram. Almost certainly the audio was edited by Ed Boyer. This won them their first Grammy, for "Best Arrangement Instrumental Or A Cappella." (As their co-arranger, Ben Bram shared the Grammy.) Before "Daft Punk Medley," that Grammy category did not exist - the Academy changed "Best Instrumental Arrangement" just so they could nominate Pentatonix! The songs in this mashup are: • “Technologic” • “One More Time” • “Get Lucky” • “Digital Love” • “Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger” • “Television Rules the Nation” • “Around the World” You can find the complete lyrics here: genius.com/Pentatonix-daft-punk-lyrics I recommend watching their private performance of this. Recorded on a fan's cell phone, just the five of them, off-mic., in a quiet room. You'll be surprised by how close it is to the professionally edited version. czcams.com/video/tw4YCsHXKgI/video.html
There was no studio, it was made in a closet for $400 before they were a SUPER GROUP in the industry …this was when they were relatively new. Also, Daft Punk was a duo of 2 French DJ’s who made electronic music that included techno, pop, dance, & synth styles.🙂PTX did this without any instruments or DJ’s so it’s definitely an upgrade, lol😂🎶❤️✌🏻
@@thechomiji That’s my favorite live performance. They look and sound amazing. The one in the room with no mics helps the doubters realize just how incredible they sound. I really get tired of people doubting their skills.
Daft Punk is/was a French electronic/synth/techno pop duo. You might want to find a video of theirs to review. It would probably be interesting for you. I'm sure Kirstie did her own makeup in the video and it wasn't that expensive! They wore the blue contacts, but Avi had a tough time with them (you can see the redness on close up!) Kevin couldn't wear them at all, which is why he wore the glasses/goggles. Daft Punk usually performed with head gear or helmets on, so that works for the video. The PTX producer is Ben Bram and you're right, their technical team has always been top notch! You're also right in that they make all the covers sound like upgrades, even John Lennon's "Imagine." I'll follow you on down the Pentatonix rabbit hole!!
Another great one! Yes...Avi, the bass singer in this one, does help with some percussion. notably things like whistling wind, deep bass percussion, and some deep humming. Kevin is doing most of the real beatboxing. Matt does the same kind of thing. Check out New Rules/Are You That Somebody ( done in 20 19 I think) for how well both Kevin and Matt work together to do all the percussion. Daft Punk was a French EDM group who wore motorcycle helmets during their videos and shows. Nobody saw their faces. Their usual stage set-up was mostly electric blue and some silver, hence the blue contacts PTX used. And Kevin's sunglasses also echo the Daft Punk helmets theme. All the songs are a medley of Daft Punk songs. PTX had studio time booked to record and film this, but somehow the booking fell thru, so they emptied out a closet in Avi and Kevin's apartment to record the vocals and filmed the video in the kitchen. It didn't cost a lot, but it was sent out for final mixing and editing, so there was a cost for that above the initial $400 they spent on props, make-up and lighting. Despite it being a home- done job, they won a Grammy for the awesome arrangement. Their first Grammy. The others were for Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy and a duo with Dolly Parton singing Jolene. We pentaholics always say their covers are actually upgrades of the originals. Suggestions for what to do next: The one I mentioned above: New Rules/Are You That Somebody, Happy Now (original), Coffee In Bed(original), When The Party's Over, Attention, Dreams,(Cranberries cover), The Prayer.
I so love how enthusiastic you are about Pentatonix! You are right to toss genres aside for them, they can do pretty much everything. To get a feel for how versatile they are, check out Havana, their ‘90s Dance Medley, Come Along, Can You Feel the Love Tonight (yep, the Lion King song) and maybe Mad World. Or anything that catches your eye, they never disappoint! One heads-up, they have one personnel change over the years so you’ll notice a new bass singer in their videos starting in 2017. Now I’m off to watch some of your Larry Bird stuff, I love that guy too. Peace from Ohio …
She did her own makeup with Mitch’s help. Kirsten, Mitch and Scott are theater kids and grew up together. They all dated each other at different times as teenagers too.
for clarification: they do occasionally use instruments (mostly Kevin on the cello) but if there IS an instrument used it will be front and center in the video.
There are 3 A Capella groups that I say are equal and are the best out there. 1) Pentatonix, who won the third season of a singing competition called The Sing Off. 2) Home Free, who won the 4th season of The Sing Off. 3) Voice Play who most members (and they change members often) have backgrounds with Disney so they are very theatrical. All three are absolutely fantastic A Capella groups. I do not favor one of the other. I listen to them all with equal praise.
Ben Bram, sometimes known as "the sixth member of Pentatonix," is their arranger and producer. This is not to say that he does all the arranging; he generally makes the first pass, after which the members of #Pentatonix have their say, but Ben's first pass tends to be pretty good and it has gotten to be even more so over the years. Since the Grammy was awarded for the arrangement of "Daft Punk," Ben Bram was their co-winner. The same applies to their second Grammy, for "Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy," which was in the same category as "Daft Punk."
There are 3 top tier acapella groups and their beatboxers. You didn't mention a beatboxer with VOICEPLAY. He is phenomenal also. Voiceplay is more like the "theatre kids'" of acapella who cover all genres. Some members have worked at Disney & may use costumes and sets for some videos. They can still knock your socks off when they just sit still on a chair in T shirts and jeans. Check out their "Tennessee Whiskey " , Creep", or I" Can't Make You Love Me.." PTX is more pop centric. Homefree can do anything, but won the Acapella Sing Off Show singing more country style music but also covers the classics, including R & B. (PTX won the Sing Off one yr. prior to Homefree. ) They are all different and no one group is better than the others. My favorite group changes every time I hear their latest releases. All 3 have lifted my soul and spirit over the years. Homefree and Voiceplay have been around over 20 yrs. PTX came on the scene in 2011 and reawakened America to modern acapella. Put on your gear and prepare for a deep dive!
😊❤ Hi! If you love to watch beat boxing, how about watching Kevin, the beat boxer do a little thing he invented- cello boxing!! 😮😅 Good examples is are 'Radioactive' and their newest 'Kiss From A Rose'!! It's amazing!! LOL You are very close about them that it would be hard if someone left. One person has left the group! Avi Kaplan, in this video, braided hair, bass singer. He left in 2017 and they were so blessed to find Matt Salle to replace him!! And they are touring right now!! 😊❤❤
Well there is a change to the group. Avi left the group and Matt took his place and it was seamless. Avi helped pick his replacement. I don’t think you will be upset by his departure.
Avi did not help pick Matt as his replacement. Avi had absolutely nothing to do with them choosing Matt. Matt auditioned (along with 40 + others) and won his place in the band based upon his talent, work ethic, experience, personality, etc. Matt knew Ben Bram yet he still had to audition.
Sigh. To quote "Daft Punk": "One more time." The guy with the white hair (normally blond) is Scott. The woman is Kirstin. The guy with cornrows is Avi. OK, it was professionally mixed (probably by Ed Boyer, who specializes in a capella and PTX in particular) and the video was professionally edited.
Look for the video where they do this standing in a room with no mics, no effects and no layering. You won’t believe how good it sounds.
Or their performance from the Hollywood Bowl live concert, much more recently.

I think it works for the beatboxer to wear techno-looking glasses, since he sounds like a drum machine.

They did the video in Avi and Kevin's apartment kitchen and closet!
For makeup, try their original song, Love Again. Insane!
All self applied... That was Avi, bass. Kevin is beatboxer.
Great reaction!
The contact lens were from Spirt of Holloween
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I love your reactions. Each of the songs you listened to was from a different genre. Problem, an Ariana Grande cover includes rapping.

Their name is Pentatonix. Pronounced with hard x.
Like the x in "fix"
Their style in this video is inspired by the movie Tron Legacy which Daft Punk did the music
It is a mashup.
This a medley. Daft Punk was a group in the 80' s or 90's.
😂they do this live unmiked. Sounds the same.
They made this video for 200.00 sang it in a closet. Scott says it in their Grammy acceptance speech.
This whole video had a $400 budgetin kevin's pantry.
They're chameleons...
