Glen Campbell's fantastic guitar solo on "Galveston"

  • WATCH MY COVER OF THIS SOLO HERE • "Galveston" (Live) Gui...
SOURCE VIDEO FOR MY LESSON AND COVER . THIS SOLO IS PURE BRILLIANCE!!! The lines show a really deep understanding of both the song structure and the tradition of his musical background. It's also extremely virtuoustic and contains of all the hallmark's that make Glen's playing legendary. Beautiful phrasing, octave runs, arpeggios and sweep, the odd outside notes and chromatic runs weaved in so masterfully. This was REALLY hard to copy- probably the hardest cover I've done.
Clean Strat (sounds like early 60s to me) with no gain to hide behind. (distortion sounding guitars are much easier to play and hide a multitude of sins)
Anyway, here's the cleaned up video- I remixed the sound, applying EQ, rounded out the bass, and normalized the peaks, with about a 3 db gain addition. This sounds better than the original video I took it from.
Guitar players who dig Glen - PLEASE SUBSCRIBE. I have other classic CG solo covers and lessons posted here, with much more on the way.

When I was in my 20s I won a free ticket from a radio show contest to see Glen Campbell. At that time I hated him. If one of his songs was on the radio I'd change channel. But I was a starving student and would never pass up anything free ;-) So my friend and I went to his concert and it literally changed my life. I saw real musical talent and prowess for the first time. I was so inspired that I changed from being a bedroom strummer to a semi-professional musician and paid my way through university and beyond by playing music. Thanks, Glen Campbell! You made me about $50,000. And more importantly, you made me a very happy little musician.

I love Glen's music (and have done since I was a child), and I must admit a lot of the people I mentioned have been around for a while, but there are some wonderful country musicians out there still playing and singing with passion and expertise. Been listening to country music ,my dad was a bass player on a country band ,Glen Cambell I'm sure was an influence on my dad and his band mates they came from that era,if you get a chance, Dianne Warwick had a show at one time they did a duet together, they sang to entirely different songs the fact they were so talented they fused the songs together it was amazing. ❤

It was the other way around. Those phenomenal skills are what got him into the Wrecking Crew, a list of elite musicians who were totally accurate even under pressure.

So is the songwriter of Galveston and Wicheta Lineman and By the Time I Get to Phoenix, Mr. Jimmy Webb. Try to imagine Glenn's career without Jimmy Webb.

Did you know? Campbell named two sons after Webb, I think? that one carried Jimmy or James, in their middle name, the other has "Webb" as his middle name.

The real thrill of watching this beautiful song performed here, is the face of Steve Wariner, a deeply talented performer himself, as Glenn effortlessly brings us the highlights of this remarkable solo. It becomes so very obvious where Steve got his influence, and the incredible impact Campbell had on his playing and singing style. The smile says it all.

Many rockers from 80s , 90s , and even today mention Glen Campbell as the best musician to pick up anything with strings. If Glen wasn't blessed with a golden voice his guitar playing would be even more of a household name. Thank you Glen for all the years of great music.

I honestly didn't know what to expect on a song like this. I give him an A. Not only for performance, but for how it added to the song. Not just up there shredding for the sake of shredding. Kind of rare to see
