😂 My dad was a Glen Campbell fan in the 60s and 70s, and I liked him, along with my dad’s other albums, Bob Dylan, The Kingston Trio, Ian and Sylvia, Bluegrass. But I didn’t tell my friends. Lol.
I eventually got in to everything rock music, Beatles, Beach Boys, The Who, Rush, etc.

While the crew was under contract with Viacom-CBS Campbell was known to give bonuses out of his pocket to the crew. He really cared about people. I still have the Timex watch he gave us all at Christmas that year.

Glen Campbell is regarded by many to be one of the finest guitarists ever. He was a legend in studio work before he became famous to the public and played with the "wrecking Crew", a collective of LA-based musicians who played on the recordings of dozens of famous musicians. He was a terrific singer, songwriter, and entertainer. I was a teenager when he emerged with top-charting singles in the 60s and even saw him live in concert on August 5, 1969, at the Indiana State Fairgrounds Coliseum, in Indianapolis. I still remember what a great show it was! Something many don't know is that he filled in for Brian Wilson, touring with the Beach Boys, playing bass and singing the falsetto harmonies, in 1964 and 1965.

For many of us, this really shows how fleeting time really is. It was just 'a few years ago' when Glenn was hugely popular on TV and the radio.
It's now been just over four years since Glenn passed away at the time I write this.
As it's said, we get a brief moment to dance in the sun before sunset comes and before we know it we're old when we were young just last week.
One day, we look into the mirror and wonder when it was that we started getting gray and wonder when those first wrinkles appeared that we hadn't noticed until that moment because we get so busy with life, raising kids and working all of the time.

I see it another way, Matthew. This is the WAKEUP CALL to those of us on the other side of 60 (or 50, even) to do it while we still can, before it all creeps up on us, and we can't do it anymore. Arthritis has already started with my husband and me. We have answered that wakeup call and are doing all the things we have wanted to do before it's too late. My husband and I will be at one of the big parks in Orlando and will be FRONT ROW on all of the roller coasters and will be on ALL of the water slides in the water park. We have been big fishing in Costa Rica twice since last year. Yes, Matthew, time is REALLY fleeting and ya gotta live it while you can. My husband and I have 70+ years of critical care experience between us and see this on a daily basis. I was freight trained head on last year when my strong, healthy, happy, beautiful 32 year old daughter suddenly passed from a huge bleed in the brain. I still cry almost every day. I promised her that I would live my BEST life and am doing that, to honor her, and to live for US as well. BTW, I watched Glen Campbell's Goodtime Hour when I was a kid. Never missed it.

I saw your comment and just watched Glen play Classical Gas with an orchestra behind him. I don't know if it's the performance you are referring to to but I didn't enjoy it, as I feel it was more about the orchestra, and not enough about glen, tbh.

Yes Glen was a fine player,as evidenced by the fact he was a member of the "Wrecking Crew", a bunch of monster musicians in Los Angeles who played on thousands of recording sessions for all the top artists, from Sinatra down to "famous" young groups who could barely hold their instruments, let alone play them...The latters` secrets were safe with these sessioneers though..lol!

What I take from this clip , is he was a fantastic musician , and a generous man with a warm sense of humour .
Anybody would be proud too be known for any single thing in that list . Yet here he was , on top of the world ,& no sign of any sort of inflated star ego .
He was a remarkable man , who any rising star should look too , when they need an example to follow .

Still to this day I am blown away by GC's guitar playing, I mean he was playing banjo licks on the guitar! As a young acoustic guitarist in the early 70's, when all my friends had gone electric, I stumbled across a 60's album, THE 12 String Guitar of GLEN CAMPBELL, and was a fan forever. When his career took off I was disappointed his voice and those great Jimmy Webb songs took the light off of his guitar playing, but he always managed to take occasion to make sure everyone remembered he had serious chops on the guitar.
