I just bought a Bergara Wilderness in .308 Winchester
I checked the trigger pull and it was set from the factory at 2.5lbs. Like butter.
    Bolt and action is smooth.
I picked the .308 Winchester because it'll take down all game in North America and .308 can be found almost anywhere. I live in Alaska and a buddy of mine has shot everything in Alaska from Brown bears, black bears sheep, goats, moose and caribou with his .308.
I'm retiring my .300 Win Mag.
    It's all about shot placement.
Natives in the villages in Bush Alaska shoot moose with a .22
I'm no longer keen on shooting magnum cartridges. Not fun to shoot, destroys too much meat , expensive and good luck finding .300 win, 7mm mag, 6.5 prc, 6.5 creed as our world falls apart in 2022 at $75-$90 a box of 20.

HarleyWood I don’t know. I’ve heard the military is looking for a bigger cartridge than the 556, so maybe they’ll jump to the 6.5 PRC. I’d be interested in knowing the barrel life on that PRC. Maybe you’ll let us know. How is the cost/availability of the ammo? I enjoy your content, Harley. Again thanks.

    • @HarleyWood23
      @HarleyWood23  Před 4 lety +1

Ammo is anywhere from $36 - $60 per 20. I’m seeing more and more custom loads all the time. From what I understand, competitive shooters go through a barrel every 1,000 - 2,000 rounds. As a hunter, this would last me a lifetime though.

Good video, thanks! I have a request. I appreciate that you actually talked about some information about the rifle instead of just yet another video showing a person shooting it and really giving no information at all. But I wonder if you could do a follow-up video talking about your opinion of how the rifle would work in realistic hunting situations. Things like how does it feel while in the field? How does it balance? How comfortable is it to carry? How does the weight feel since it is a heavy rifle relative to traditional hunting rifles? To me and I know a lot of others information on those type of questions would be very helpful

I bought one exactly like this in 65cm. I had nothing but problems.
The action screws were loose. After much frustration, I sent it back to the factory. They lapped the bolt lugs and re-cut the crown. On their range, they got a 0.839 group at 100 with 140g ELDM.
It's a beginner rifle. You can hunt with it. But it's no target shooter

Harley, truly enjoyed your video as I am looking to add to my gun collection with a Bergara rifle. Looking at the 6.5PRC round as well as the 300 Win Mag. However, after your video I believe that the 6.5PRC may be the round for me for less recoil, velocity and a significant round for target and hunting. If you could do it all over again, would you duplicate your purchase? And yes, 2020 being the year of the pandemic along with not so nice individuals makes your video enjoyable. Look forward to hearing back on your opinion. Blue skies, Jg

Absolutely, I would make the same decision again. The ammo is REALLY hard to find right now, but so is just about all ammo, right? Depending on the kind of hunting you do, the rifle is quite long and heavy. I hunt mostly box stands and tree climbers so it’s not a big deal but you’d have to be in good shape if you spot and stalk hunt.

Unfortunately 3 shot groups doesnt really mean anything. You should watch 9holes video on groups, he explains it pretty well. But since we are on the topic, I've shot two 3 round groups with my sako trg 308, they were 0.24moa and 0.27moa. The gun is only a month old and havent gotten around to do 10 shot groups yet, but tested a few different rounds with 5 shot groups and everything have been around 0.4-0.6moa. Did also a rapidfire group, 33 seconds for 5 shots 0.44moa group.
Edit: everything shot prone with bipod.

@@HarleyWood23 yes, and 3 round groups do NOT showcase the performance of the rifle and ammo combination. Its pretty simple math. You could have 3 different 3 round groups all 0.3moa but when you put all of the groups on top of each other it could cover even a bigger are than 1 moa. 5 round groups is a good compromise if you dont have the recources or time to do 9 or 10 shot groups.

yes, but 7-08 is more comparable to the 6.5 CM, rather than the PRC. Versus the PRC, the 7-08 drops significantly more at distance, and unless you run sub-130 gr loads, it doesn't have near the velocity of the PRC.
