    You also did take oral Minoxidil parallel to topical Dut, so you can't contribute the good results (increase in thickness of your hair) solely to topical Dut because you can't separate the effects.

    If you have the hair that you do I strongly recommend seeing how low you can reduce the dose and frequency and be happy. Especially since you indicated that you had side effects with oral finasteride. Side effects can sneak up on you especially as you get older and you might think it's just normal with part of aging but perhaps a portion of it is due to taking mote medication than needed

    • @HairTransplantNetwork
      @HairTransplantNetwork  Před 11 měsíci

      So far things have been good in that department. If I experience some sides I will def lower the frequency.

    Hi Melvin great, informative and objective video as always.
    This is just my personal opinion but it wouldn't be worth the effort for me.
    You can clearly see an improvement but I don't think it's so breathtaking that it would be worth it, especially when you consider the price and the possible side effects that could still occur years later even if you didn't have any to begin with.

    • @HairTransplantNetwork
      @HairTransplantNetwork  Před rokem

      That’s fair, I think it’s a good alternative for those who cant take oral medication. But if you can tolerate oral then definitely stick with that, doing nothing is never a bad choice either. But I wouldn’t suggest getting a hair transplant without medication.

    • @x_KingPin_x
      @x_KingPin_x Před rokem

      @@HairTransplantNetwork Unfortunately, this ship has sailed for me. I can't tolerate DHT blockers and the topical stuff can only be obtained in my country via extreme detours that are also not legal.
      I already had my HT with 3000 grafts and my doctor says I can have another 3000 without any problems.
      I just have to hope that it won't get much worse for me, luckily I'm already 35 and "only" a Norwood 3.
      I also went to a doctor who is highly recommended on the Hair Restoration Network and she never said anyting about medication.
      So i hope for the best.

    I just got a hair transplant about 6 months ago but I never used finasteride or minoxidil because of not risking the side effects. But I wanted to give it a try and use their xyon Topical Finasteride and Minoxidil. Any thoughts on that product?

  • @i-love-germany-118
    @i-love-germany-118 Před rokem +2

    When I first tried finasteride years ago I got side effects. I again started taking it half a year ago and it caused no side effects this time around. I think psychology can play a role.
    Especially when you're trying a non-FDA approved product like this with high concentrations of Dutasteride, instead of relying on side effects it would have been more prudent to get bloodwork done to measure DHT levels in the body pre and post starting the regimen.

    • @HairTransplantNetwork
      @HairTransplantNetwork  Před rokem +1

      I agree finasteride side effects can be nocebo. In my case, the only reason I discovered it was finasteride was because I went to a doctor because I had no idea what was going on with me. He asked if I was taking meds and I told him fin. This was back in 07. I didn’t even research the sides of the drug I just took it. So definitely wasn’t nocebo.

      @Poupipoupi-bw2bl Před rokem

      @@HairTransplantNetworkI know what you mean Melvin. But if finasteride gave you side effects why do you take dutasteride which is more potent that finasteride ? Plus, you were Norwood 6 before your HT journey so it's really worth using a product that is much powerful than fin ?

  • @nathanc3797
    @nathanc3797 Před 7 měsíci

    there is 1 thing that confuses me.. some of the drug will likely go systemic and the half life is incredibly long, you'd likely end up getting about the same serum DHT suppression as fin no matter how much you use it per week right? This is why we need more studies. I'm looking for an alternative to fin since i got mild sides from it, but they're reduced to almost nothing micro dosing topical. It still seems to be effective for my situation but an alternative with less sides would be ideal.

    Im skeptical of topical dutasteride based on the 500 dalton rule… feel like most of it cant penetrate the skin

    • @HairTransplantNetwork
      @HairTransplantNetwork  Před 10 měsíci +1

      The 500 dalton rule is hardly a rule. Here’s a good article. It depends on other factors. The vehicle also makes a big difference in penetration. The dalton rule says that under 500 allows for deep penetration. The dermal papillae is located at the upper most layer of the dermis. Which is in the middle, right below the epidermis (top of skin).
      That means that Dutasteride doesn’t need to penetrate systemically to reach the hair follicle androgen receptors and sebaceous glands. I would argue that this makes dutasteride superior over finasteride. It can reach the targeted area with minimal systemic absorption.
      But regardless, it does penetrate. It has a 528 dalton size, which means is just over the threshold. Topicals under 600 dalton penetrate.
      Furthermore, the drugs delivery system plays a big role. Lipid-based nanotechnology like siloxysystem increases the absorption into the dermis.

    • @mainescapade
      @mainescapade Před rokem

      Good question. Going off labels at least, both Finasteride and Dutasteride list persistent ED as a potential side effect on their official pamphlets. That much is 100% confirmed.
      My speculation: since they are both functionally the same drug. Pfs should be just as likely with dutasteride. Unless there's something in Finasterides metabolites that causes the problem. Or more. I got a few more theories I hope to see tested over time, lol.
