    Agree with the assessment that we could probably stop hair loss for 90% if everyone got on finasteride before it begins, but most people don't start researching and accepting they need chemical intervention until the loss is significant. So the majority of people looking for answers aren't just looking to hold onto what they currently have, but to find a way to recover what they've lost.

      Why start with both at the same time? Why not just start with fin and see the result. Then you know if it works and also if you need to add minoxidil.

    • @litjellyfish
      @litjellyfish Před 3 lety

      @FearlessRevolution minox can’t bring a hair back. If that was the case why even use fin? Only thing it can do is to maybe thickening them a bit and extend the growth cycle making it appear to be more hair on the head.
      That is the danger with only using minox. People think they save or get hair back when in really they just got overlapping growth cycles. And as more and more hair in each cycle dies and thins out in the end you will still be balder and balder.
      Best is to start early with fin and keep the hair you have. Then if you already lost a bit yes then you can add minox to thicken and have longer growth periods. But just minox only help for so long.
      Also fin bring back hair of course. Depending on how far each folicle has miniaturized it will for sure bring back some. I had plenty regrowth over my first 3 years on finasteride. But finasteride do not affect the growth cycle.

    Can you clarify if the extent of 5AR inhibition of both Fin and Dut is dose dependent? As in, if a small amount of either of these used topically hits the bloodstream does it deactivate the enzyme/hinder neurosteroid production until the drug has cleared or does 5AR recover faster after using 0.1mg fin vs 1mg? I know DHT tends to recover faster, but can we assume that 5AR has been restored by that measure alone?

    • @haircafekevin
      @haircafekevin  Před 3 lety

      This biochemistry gets pretty complicated. The amount of 5AR inhibition is dose-dependent up until all the 5AR sites are saturated. After that increasing the dose further shouldn't make a difference. The recovery time seems to be pretty long after the 5AR sites are bound. Thus the effects don't correlate that well with the serum half-lives of the drugs. All this is hard to measure and it's easier just to look at serum DHT for the effect of topical 5AR inhibitors.

    The premise of topical dutasteride is that the applied dose goes systemic to a smaller degree and when you tune the dose enough the systemic dose's half-life will be significantly shorter on serum while the full effects can be visible on the scalp. If you can tune the dose that can yield to 0.1 mg systemic absorption, -according to Gisleskog- your DHT levels will return to normal one week after the application. And if you apply it once a week, you can get the scalp built up with the dutasteride while the serum DHT shows very little fluctuation. To add, liposomal dutasteride is available for everyone to get via a prescription (ofc) however we still see some amount of systemic absorption even though the frequency helps with preventing build-up. As someone who cannot tolerate finasteride, topical dutasteride worked extremely well and I have nothing to complain about as of now. Some of us cannot take finasteride, this is the reality. Wish you went deeper into the subject as it can aid a lot of people like me, who cannot use finasteride.

      I'm glad topical dutasteride is working for you. I am just trying to review the research that is available, not to discount anyone's positive experiences.
      I can't wholeheartedly endorse something because people tell me they like it or else I'll have to start taking crap like the Growband seriously because there are people who say that has worked well for them too. When more research is available on topical dutasteride I'll be happy to review the subject again.
      I can only work with what I am given and like many areas of research in hair loss the data tends to be incomplete.

      @@haircafekevin the thing is, i really dont want to use a growth stimulant like minoxidil, the reason being that i do not like the idea of making my hair dependant on a growth stimulant. I am hopeful over a ”cure” for baldness in the future or at least a wonder remedy, so i do not like the fact that my hair gets dependant on growth stimulants. I would like to halt the hair loss using anti-androgens cause as ive understood, as long as you switch out an anti-androgen with something equal, you will maintain your hair, because it is not the substance itself that your hair gets dependant on when using something like RU, its the anti androgenic effect thats stopping it. Hence why I’m asking if I am able to stop using RU after gaining anything with it and just sticking to finasteride to maintain the gains from RU. But now that I think about it, I”ll probably have to stick to RU58841 to maintain what I get with it, (my problem seems not only to be DHT but Testosterone also, which needs to be locally supressed) or maybe switch later on to something like breezula (when it is available), right?

Im def not a snake-oil buyer in general, whats why I was wondering if anything even had 25-50% of the benefits of Finasteride but was natural. Not surprised that they dont but would have been nice to at least get whatever gains I get. Like I said, the Dr isnt against it, he prescribes it regularly, but hes saying for me specifically (he knows my health history well) he would advise against it. He even sells Minox at his office so its not like hes anti drugs or anything

    Just curious about your opinion, been on fin for about a month now everything was fine until I saw a propecia help forum than had a bit of a shut down lol, do you think its all in the head or should I stop?

      Definitely do not stop .. just take it and forget it .. I’ve been on fin for 5 months now and I have 0 side effects .. hair fall has finally started to slow down .. usually takes 10-12 months to finally see benefits beyond baseline .. bottom line, do not let that forum scare you .. stay on the fin, monitor your results and ensure you exercise and eat healthy and you will be fine 🙂

    Currently on Monday .05 mg dut, Wednesday 1 mg fin, Friday 1mg fin, Sun 1 mg fin. And Tuesday 0.05 mg dut and so on. What do you think should I up my dut to 1 mg a week?

    Kevin, Have you seen the new topical Dut from Xyon? (Dr Hasson) It’s a gel that uses nano delivery technology to help the larger Dut molecule penetrate but also stay in the scalp and not release systemically as much as other delivery methods.

    • @haircafekevin
      @haircafekevin  Před rokem +1

      I haven't but I'd be skeptical. Dutasteride even when injected directly into the scalp via mesotherapy is still much less effective than oral.

    Kevin I have been on oral Dutasteride since January ,I was thinking of adding topical Dutasteride ,will it make any difference and improvements? PLEASE I would like to know your opinion.

      No, oral dutasteride is good enough. Topical is redundant, especially on top of oral.

      I have been taking 1mg finasteride a day for 2years with no side effects. I hoped on dutasteride 2months ago and I recently started suffering decreased libido and loss of morning wood. Did you suffer from any of these side effects?

    Hey Kevin, Merry Christmas!
    In your opinion can increasing finasteride dose cause an increase in shedding?
    I upped my dose to 1mg daily about 2 months ago and feel like my hair has gotten so much thinner since

      Honestly I don't know for sure but I doubt it. 1 mg of fin only suppresses 8 percent more dht than 0.5 mg so it is pretty negligible.

  • @Iamdrebin
    @Iamdrebin Před 3 lety

    What about using oral fin combined with topical fin? Since you still have DHT on scalp after oral could using topical clean up the access like RU?

    • @haircafekevin
      @haircafekevin  Před 3 lety +1

      I talked about this in my oral vs topical fin video. Fin has diminishing returns and topical fin absorbs systemically so the results are likely just further reduced systemic DHT, not further suppressed scalp dht.
