It just blows my mind that a shop would ever want to put their name on the work they did to this car! Steve's Hardtop is the build that's like peeling back a rotten onion and finding new layers of lazy incompetence! It sounds like someone at that shop assigned this build to the shop broom pusher! I am glad it is in your hands now!
After going through my '55 Bel Air and finding the severe rust damage in the brake and cooling system, I bit the bullet and paid $38 for a big bottle of Dot 5 at NAPA. It aint cheap but, well worth it to avoid any future rust damage like I am seeing in my car now! Keep up the great work and I look forward to seeing this hardtop back on the road soon! Take care Dan!

They probably painted everything when it was on the car like all the kids do. I would just use the wire wheel Anyone who’s done tons of welding tig Meg stick and used oxygen acetylene for cutting could pretty much tell you the chances of that small amount of paint catching something on fire are slim to none if that were the case, I’d be more worried about the heat, destroying the rubber brake lines.

Hey Rob, having been in the brake business for many years, a lot of brake pad suppliers, when they powder coat the pad backing, they would also powder coat the edge of the pads as well, not the pad face. That’s probably what it was on Steve’s pads. Not a big deal but sometimes it would cause a bit of a brake squeal and we would just give it a light buffing on a wire wheel to remove it, comes off easy.
Was there any warranty on that manifold for the flaking? Surely lots of other people have had the same issue. Car is looking really good!

Bought a new Endurashine Edelbrock manifold like that few years back around 2017.Out of the box it was loaded with black spots here and there. I Sent it back to Edelbrock second one was better but still not for a show car which my 55 is far from so I kept it. I would never buy one again thats for sure. Those painted brakes pure laziness and calipers too.......

I'm wondering if you called up Edelbrock and ask them if there are aware of the finish pealing maybe you could talk them into replacing the intake manifold or at least pro-rating the manifold.

Here is an Idea I've to deglaz disc brake pads I have wire wheel in my bench grinder it worked great for me so I'm willing to bet you could use it to remove all that paint 🎨 on the sides of the brake pad. I hope you like the Idea.

Not sure if you have a Harbor freight near you but I purchase all of my blasting media from them, just another option.

The worst part about the hack job they did is that they are doing right now to someone else's car.

When you paint that little GM emblem, how do you get the paint to adhere to it? Do you have a way to scuff up inside the letters? Just real patient with sandpaper or do you have a trick to that?

If you are worried about the paint on brake shoes catching on fire, hit them with a torch first, then clean them. If they burn, then it's under your control.
Some people do stupid stuff. Unfortunately, you have stupid people out there.
