Oh no…
Nah
Disgusting
Hell no
nice to see FSG getting that sweet, sweet Ad money.
If you thought Kellen's pronounciation of Reuniclus was controversial, "Drop"-ion is about to be even more contentious.
It's physically hurting me...
I don’t think I can even make it through this
I mean the way he pronounces Reuniclus is the official pronunciation. The official pronunciation for Drapion is “Drah-pion”, which he doesn’t say.
There’s wolfey purposefully mispronouncing names for comedic effect then there’s Kellen just being wrong
He also pronounces SD kind weird
Paul's drapion was honestly one of the most intimidating pokemon ever depicted in the anime, especially with how they chose to depict toxic spikes as an omni present force
Agreed
Accurate depiction of competitive, with stealth rocks being the only thing worse.
I think Ursaring was more intimidating, it BODIED buizel, staraptor, pikachu in the lake verity battle and traumatized Chimchar
@Kurtis You again? Why haven't you been shut down by now, spam bot?
@@onionlamento true.
But I do think Drapion had the edge of intimidation bc it straight up said, "Staraptor, You're Getting Poisoned Too!"
I feel like you should make a video on the history of Knock Off, since it comes up so often especially because you mention "the newly buffed Knock Off" for like every Pokemon that has it when you get to gen 6
Yeah, how Knock Off used to be a niche move till Gen 6. Especially how some Pokémon in Gen 3 (Alakazam and Armaldo) used the move competitively.
@@IgnitedQuils i wouldn't even call it a niche move, it's genuinely an amazing utility move in early gens.
As I understand it, in early gens, knock off was a utility move that was commonly run on stall teams and sometimes balance, but not that valuable on offensive teams. Removing an item, specifically negating leftovers recovery, is super nice in longer battles where you need that extra punch to break through, but its low damage output means that its really only viable on pokemon that don't deal much damage in the first place or against pokemon that won't take much damage from any moves. Gen 3's meta was particularly stally, so it probably had more use there than in gens 4 or 5.
Gen 6 improved its base power from a pathetic base 20, to a very strong base 65 with a 1.5x boost if it removes an opposing item. This made it so that when it removes an item, it is the strongest physical dark type move in pokemon, which drastically increased its utility to become viable on pretty much any physical attacker in the game. The other most common physical dark type moves, crunch, sucker punch, and night slash, only have 80, 70, and 70 bp respectively, so knock off became the dark type move of choice due to its higher initial power while not losing too much power on subsequent hits.
The knock off buff drastically improved dark type physical attackers, but also was a buff to pretty much every physical attacker in the game that could run it. It was also a massive buff for many fighting types as well since it hits ghost and psychic pokemon super hard, while also just crippling any physical wall that might want to switch in to them. Using knock off as a utility move never really went away either, pokemon like ferrothorn and toxapex can still viably run it just for the item removal effect.
It hasn't been all buffs for knock off, the addition of unremovable items like z moves and mega crystals allows for some pokemon to switch in to the move in gens that support them. This means that teams often had pokemon that could switch in to knock off in gens 6 and 7, and while the move was extremely strong, there were checks to it, and a well constructed team could play around it.
In gen 8, the addition of poultergeist has also made knock off a bit less of an autoinclude on teams, because if you knock off an opponents item, you might set up your opponent with a pokemon that can switch in to your physical attacking ghosts. Still, as long as you're aware of the dangers of using these moves together on the same team, its not that big a downside, and knock off is still the premiere physical dark type move of choice today.
@@IgnitedQuils And Hariyama
Maybe a video about moves that remove items in general (trick, switcheroo and knock off)
I keep forgetting how surprisingly fast Drapion is, always thought it was about 70-75.
Never underestimate the Ogre Scorp.
I can’t believe the “Citizen Snips” set of Resttalk, Acupressure, Knock Off wasn’t mentioned in Gen 6/7. It was probably one of the most hilarious, well-known, and memeish Drapion sets.
Drapion is my favorite poison type, it’s got such a menacing and cool design and I will never forget how strong it was in the anime. Seemed like such an unstoppable force.
Me too along with scolipede, salazzle, toxiccroak, gengar, nidoqueen, nidoking , Crobat, and Roserade.
Same here, along with shiny Scolipede. I'm a fan of big intimidating mons, esp when they have more unique designs like those two
The main reason why Paul's Drapion appeared to be so powerful was because Paul could predict Ash's moves. Ash never changed his team whenever he battled Paul, so Paul knew Ash's team inside out.
I like Weezing, but drapion is also one of my faves
@@UltimateDragonX9999 Guessing Poison's your favorite type
Fun fact- Drapion in SS monotype got the move Accupressure banned, basically thanks to battle armor preventing crits it could just Accupressure and stat ball all you’d need is (note if the opponent even had a ground type move to hit you with) kill any counters or set him up on a Mon who’d want to switch out
Fun Fact- those idiots don't know the move haze or roar.
Poison/Dark is such a good type combo
Only x2 weakness is Ground. BST is not bad too.
Yeah 1 immunity, 1 weakness and 4 resistances. And a good offensive type as well
Probably one of my favorite types
Yeah, its so good being super effective to fairy, though losing the resistance is kind of a downside
@@Squirtle_Squad_Supremacy on the flipside, you get immunity to psychic and prankster. Drapion is a joker.
Drapion is already threatening but it becomes even more so when you realise that a Pokédex entry states that it takes down its foes slowly with a poison to make them suffer more, even though it can kill them quickly with its claws 😭
Some of its Pokédex entries even state the opposite. That it can take down does without the need of poison!
@@asuuki2048 i mean the ones OP is talking about don’t say it can’t, they just say that drapion chooses to take them out with poison
@@galvsparks6295 I know, I’m just saying that it goes both ways haha.
Small meany claws.
Imagine Drapion with Wicked Blow, just like Radical Red, and it would be more powerful than ever.
Everyone's talking about Paul's Drapion, but Pokemon Hunter J's Drapion deserves mention as well, since it was ordered to grab Ash so tightly that he had to resort to kicking its face just to make it let go of him.
One thing to note about Drapion is how similar it is to another Gen 4 scorpion based Pokémon, Gliscor. Both have good defensive typings, and similar stat spreads.
If only Drapion was stronger and had recovery, it’d be in higher tiers.
Or maybe they could have made drapioon the offensive version of gliscor
@@darrellsimon4462 Gliscor can already be offensive version of Gliscor tho.
@@Entelarmer lol I get that I was just thinking maybe give it the stats of gliscor. 120 base attack lol
@@darrellsimon4462 gliscor has 95 base attack
@@galvsparks6295 right but 120 base defense.
So I was thinking of giving draping the 120 for his attack
Dark/Poison is just such a cool type combination. Add a cool overall design and you've got yourself an awesome Pokemon. Drapion rocks!
I’m surprised it took so long to cover this guy. He’s a really solid lower tier Pokémon from a Gen that has had most of its good Pokémon covered by now. I remember trying to look up this video like a year ago, thinking it was covered at some point, but nope lol
Bean Burrito I would think if FSG covered Drapion before SwSh, he would had said that Drapion was in fact the King of all RU
@@darianclark3980 I wouldn't say ru I would say mid uu
Same here. My thoughts exactly.
@@idkmehboi1972 Drapion was only in UU in Gen 4.
The rest b4 Gen 8 was RU.
Aka why I said Drapion would had been the king of RU
@@darianclark3980 it would be higher if they increased it's attack by 10 or 20 points and it's defense by 10 and give it an ability like moxie. They also could increase it's speed but that's pretty high anyway
Fun fact: Drapion has the distinction of being one of the few Pokemon that Ash intentionally hurt in the anime.
What does that mean?
@@thefrubblewarrior4678 Ash kicked Hunter's J's Drapion IN THE FACE to escape it. He's not the smartest kid around, but he's got guts.
@@rubenduenas5881 He also tackled Jessie's Seviper in the Hoenn League
No one cares
@@connorhancock2096 The comments section begs to differ
Drapion was and still is one of my favorite Pokémon. When I first started to play competitively one of the first Pokémon I bred with perfect EVs was Drapion. I had Night slash, Cross poison, Earthquake and Swords dance on it. I gave it the berry that reduces ground damage. It was jolly and had max EVs in Speed and Attack, it was hilarious to use in online battles. Almost as hilarious as Hurricane Vivillon with Quiver dance, the second Pokémon I bred :}
my only experience with breeding was just to get prevos i didn't have yet.
@@gregorymirabella1423 I bred 3 boxes of Pokémon with perfect IVs xD

Drapion is one of these pokemon that have a type combination that makes me have an aneurism whenever I try to remember its weakness
Well, it's kind of easy, it's just ground really. I always kept in mind that a Perfect Pokemon (I mean in base of weaknesses and resistances) would be a Poison/Dark Pokemon with Levitate
@@arcangherss999 Or Water/Ground with Sap Sipper
@@kintaro1851 Also Yes, as Ground resists Rock, Water resists Steel and Electric immunity is very good.
But i guess Poison/Dark has more valuable resistances
@@arcangherss999 Dont forget Bug Steel with Flash Fire. Poison Dark can be Trick/Switcheroo'd a Ring Target so its weak to Psychic and Water/Grounds 4x weak to Freeze Dry
@@skullerclawerbandicoot7966 Oh yeah, i forgot about Freeze Dry.
The Bug/Steel is also true, but i find more (realistically) posible for a Poison/Dark Pokemon with like, wings to justify Levitate.
Although Bug/Steel would be a great typing doesn't have that many resistances, though Pokemon like Scizor and Durant make it work even they are aren't really that bulky.
I still remember Drapion annihilating half of Ash’s team in his 6v6 battle against Paul.
This thing would be Incredibly horrifying to encounter in real life
Most Pokemon would, tbh
You're watch a bunch a bunch of pre schoolers only to here a talking origami talking backwards in Japanese threatening to cut a worthless object.
Have you thought about doing a video on pursuit? Like how good it was in gens 2-7, it’s mechanical changes, and it’s notable users. Maybe even why it was removed from future games and how a lack of pursuit affected those meta games?
I legit think that gamefreak tried to nerf the dark type hard for reason. They removed pursuit, and snatch.
Not to mention buffing hit and run ghost pokemon, which was further improved by heavy duty boots meaning you're more free to switch around. Like, does any ghost run Colbur berry anymore? A lot of them did to play around knock off and pursuit.
tyranitar, tyranitar, tyranitar, tyranitar, tyranitar, and um... oh yes, tyranitar.
@@bakes1324 tbh, physical dark type mons have too many great tools. Knock-off, pursuit, sucker punch. Yes, they can be weakened by burn but Weavile is dominating gen 8 ou now
@@ispeakcockney5387 bro but that’s all they can do. There’s no reason to remove pursuit. Look at how good ghost types have been this gen as well as psychic. Game freak was like “ calyrex and dragupult need to be op!!”!”!”.
I remember reading Serebii as a kid when Diamond and Pearl’s new Pokémon were being revealed, and being terrified by Drapion’s official artwork.
Drapion would’ve been a good candidate for the sun and moon stat buffs. He could’ve gotten 10 or 20 in attack and hp or special defense and it would’ve benefited.
Even 10 in Attack would be big
Glad to hear the crit set actually got some usage, I brought scope lens drapion to ubers in gen 6 to catch xerneas spammers off guard. It may not have been optimal, but it was definitely fun.
Seeing a Raid Shadow Legends sponsor makes me want to use Drapion’s Poison Cross on the game.
I've always called this guy "Dray-p-on"
I pronounce it as “Drah-pion” due to how it’s name is spelled in Japanese (Dorapion).
I mean Drah-pion also makes sense for the english pronuciation
I'll always remember Drapion as the perfect Cynthia sweeper: spam Acupressure while Spiritomb can barely hurt you, then wipe the floor with her whole team
It's like Ultra Necrozma going against FEAR,Malamar,Zoroark and Marshadow.
Drapion has such a cool design, ive always liked it. Nice to see it had success in the competitive scene.
Drapion has always stood out to me for looking like one of those ring stacker baby toys brought to life.
I know this probably doesn't need to be said, but the music for these videos has always been perfect. Never change up the music you do for these vids!
Ah, Drapion, one of my favorite mons. Scope lens, Night Slash/Cross Poison was fun to run in Gen 4 Smogon when it came out. People hated that I was getting crits so often
Got to give credit to Aaron since if I remember correctly, his gimmick for Drapion was just to go for crits. Man was a gambler at heart.
Just wanna take a sec to say thank you to False Swipe Gaming. Y'all are just on another level of quality and consistency.
I find it so ironic how Drapions only weakness is ground and its highest stat is its base defense
Then you remember that most ground type moves are PHYSICAL attacks
How is that ironic?
@@ShawFujikawa It's ironic, because the type it is supposedly weak to, it tanks a good amount of their hits due to high base defense, and most of the moves of that type being physical.
Drapion has one of the few 3D models (from main line games) that I actually hate. It was intimidating in sprite form, but at 3D looks so deepy, and for some pokemon it can work, but not for Drapion.
Derpion
Yes!! One of my all time favorites, such a cool mon. Pronouncing it as “drop”ion though… questionable at best
I genuinely thought it was drap... not drop
You can probably just attribute it to a difference in accent, since “a” being pronounced as “ah” or “ay” is a common difference been some accents.
At least he's not saying "dray-pion". I've always hated that pronunciation, personally, it just sounds so wrong to me
its weird cuz he pronounced it correctly before. why did he change it now lol
@@matthewkuscienko4616 That's how you actually say it though.
I love Drapion in monotype, he covers so much for either type of team he can be on. Dark hard counters Psychic, Poison is great for Fairies and resists Fighting.
I had a pretty crap day today, never mind that because coming home to see my favorite Pokémon finally get its own FSG video has certainly cheered me up.
Latios and Gigalith deserve a video!
Never gonna give you up boys
(Also I always found interesting the fact this one isn't Bug type... Wich was really weird for me as a kid)
13:39 What is up with Virizion's eyes???
Also, little story with Drapion: I was playing Brilliant Diamond when I caught one with Acupressure in the Underground. Thanks to Cynthia opening up with Spiritomb, I swept her entire team with it due to getting maxed out stats, including evasion! XD
DRAPION!! YES!! I'VE BEEN BEGGING FOR THIS POKÉMON FOR AGES!! LET'S GOO!!
My favorite moveset with Drapion - albeit a junky one - is an "Oops! All Crit!" Set of Focus Energy, Cross Poison, Night Slash, and Ice Fang/X-Scissor/Knock off set with Sniper and Scope Lens.
I remember when Urshifu Single strike was in OU
I used a bulky toxic Drapion and did surprisingly well.
Skorupi/drapion were a 100% include in every single playthrough. fuckin loved that Pokemon in that gen. Especially bc you get black sludge around the same time. Good stuff
Poison/dark is one of the coolest type combos
It’s kind of sad that Drapion is one of the strongest physical Poison types considering it only has 90 Attack.
Toxicroak has still the highest atk stat of any poison type (not counting arceus) and it's 106
Then there's gengar and his 130 Spa
@@Drakorre At least we finally have Sneasler with 130 Atk.
Just lost drapion to a freaking wynaut in my nuzlocke
Couldn't have had a better timing
You'll be missed Scar
Not that this is generally a good idea but you might have taught it a special move - ANY SPECIAL MOVE. Because DARK types are immune to Mirror Coat (a psychic move.)
Let me guess, Counter? I still find it funny that Wynaut was in Ubers in Gen 4
@@Krishy-dz4ov smh Special Drapion = Goat

Way to go Giovanni for using Sniper + Scope Lens Drapion in VGC. I like using it too, however I prefer using it in Singles so I can set up Toxic Spikes.
This thing carried me for the entire Pokémon reborn early game. Thanks for making a video on it.
Ah Drapion, my biggest memory of this guy was him CONSTANTLY kicking my ass in Pokémon Ranger: Shadows of Almia when I was a kid
Ever since, his cry gives me PTSD 😬
Interestingly, the guy that used Drapion in Shadows of Almia also used a Gliscor. I guess they really like scorpion based Pokemon.
I'm glad someone else played Shadows of Almia. Kincaid's Drapion is tough.
Ah DRAPION, one of my favorite gen 4 Pokemon!!! This beast of a Pokemon made one *HELL* of an impression as Paul's Drapion brutalized half of Ash's team like a boss!!!!!!!
YES!!! Drapion is one of my favorite Pokémon! Thanks for covering him!
13:36 for a moment I could have sworn it said "virizion used leg break" and I wondered when that became a move
Let's not forget the true greatest Drapion set: Lansat Berry + Sniper + Cross Poison/Night Slash. It's gimmicky, but when you activate Lansat, those moves auto-crit and are given a big power boost by Sniper. Especially with Agility and Swords Dance, you can really catch people off-guard with it.
I completely missed Geovanni’s placement with Drapion in Player’s Cup. Glad to see it had some success in VGC!
Ah yes, Toxic Spikes.
Also, Paul's Drapion was a MONSTER
Thank youuuu‼️‼️ I’ve been waiting on a Drapion video for YEARS
Drapion has to be one of my favorite Gen 4 pokemon. I still call it a bug regardless of its current typing. It's quite fast for being a giant scorpion and has decent bulk. You can either go full set-up sweeper or lay out toxic spikes for hazards.
Yes! Drapion is one of my favorite Pokémon and definitely underrated. It’s stats are fantastic (especially its speed which everyone always underestimates), and its movepool is insane. I’m honestly astounded that throughout this entire video FSG never mentioned one of Drapion’s most fun moves: acupressure. For those that don’t know, acupressure is a move that will sharply raise a random stat of the target. If you’re going for a tanky build that can just sit in front of the enemy and not die, then acupressure can allow you to get a bunch of strong boosts. It’s basically just moody but without lowering one of your stats. The best part is, you can use acupressure on not only yourself but also your ally Pokémon, so you can have your tank Drapion sit there and give free plus 2 boosts to its doubles partner. The kind of things you can get away with because of this one move is absolutely ludicrous, and FSG didn’t mention it even once. That just goes to show how excellent Drapion’s movepool is. It has so many amazing options that something as insane as acupressure gets overlooked in favor of better options. If you’ve never used a Drapion before in a play through of a Pokémon game then go ahead and try it. I promise you won’t be disappointed.
Great video false swipe. Watched it all, don't worry you can trust me, I promise.
I believe you bro
Yes, Kellen! Been looking forward to this entry for a while! Thanks!
Drapion was one of the most memorable boss Pokémon and I'm glad it did very well competitive. Great video, can't wait for the next one 👍🏻
Even CZcams's integrated subtitles show that Kellen says Dropion lol.
Radical red gives drapion wicked blow, which suffice to say is utterly terrifying cause of the sniper boost. Imagine that with a scarf in OU, absolutely insane.
I like the sequencing of clips from the gen 8 part where it's just Gengar one shotting the team and Drapion comes, tanking the hit, hitting it in the back of the head pretty much telling it to "knock it off"
"Thanks to the benefits of its Poison typing" is such a funny sentence ... but Drapion sure makes it work.
Interesting that Drapion would run Sniper over Battle Armor without using any moves or items to boost its crit rate.
I used a Drapion in BDSP, he actually solo'd Cynthia 😌
Just spammed Accupressure on Spiritomb and recovered and it was over after that
Yeah, Cynthia's team may be good but that Spiritomb is basically set-up bait.
FSG I love you guys, but I always thought it was “Dray-peon” for some reason, so this video kept scratching my brain wrong😂 keep up the great content ❤️
Drapion was always one of my personal favorites, and even moreso after I got a shiny skorupi from a swarm in Y.
This Drapion episode was a real journey. They really built that Pokemon to last.
An important edit / error for gen 8: Max Knuckle is a weaker attack than Focus Blast in all circumstances, and increased attack - thus making it extremely rare to use, and you'd never click it vs Drapion if you had Max Starfall available.
Neat analysis video! Thanks for uploading!

Fell Stinger is HIGHLY underrated. Weak(er) move but VERY easy to pick up the KO with it when cleaning up. Leave your opponent looking dumb when they get KO'd and you get a 2-3x (depending on the Gen) attack boost. It only takes one successful time and it's GG. After that, Cross Poison/Night Slash your way to victory as just about every hit is 1HKO at this point one way or another. And if not, guess what? Fell Stinger again. THEN it's GG for sure.
Great build. Great mon.
I love how when we get to the gen 8 portion of the videos it's just a hot mess of the extremely broken dynamax, new Pokémon being added, new moves being added then for there to be more new Pokémon added lol
Who else would love a video about how he does his research? I wanna know how you find out all this stuff and how you go from seeing it to organizing it for us!
Drapion has been my favorite pokemon since it's release, and it puts a smile on my face seeing my boi being consistently good.
I LOVE Drapion, just recently used it in a Platinum run. Criminally underrated Pokémon.
I know it has a rather unimpressive BST but I've loved this Pokémon ever since it's introduction. I have several game with a beefed up level 100 Drapion, love this Pokémon
Unimpressive BST ? Buddy it’s higher than ferrothorn, skarmory, corviknight, Toxapex, clefable, breloom, bisharp and as high as Scizor and gengar. I wouldn’t call that unimpressive. Sure drapion isn’t as good as the mons mentioned above but that’s in no fault of the BST

Drapion is definitively up there in my ranking. Really good typing, cool design, but it's also probably the best user of Acupressure. Especially in gen 7, Z-Acupressure boosting its Crit Rate makes its Sniper STAB absoluely brutal, especially if you roll the +2 Attack.
