Every kid:
“I’m not tired!”
2 minutes later:
“😴😴”
She asleep :3
Lol 😂 facts
Well I got news for you, when you're absolutely beat, not much changes when you're an adult. Sure if you have something that needs to be done, you tough it out and do it, but as soon as you sit down somewhere comfortable, and there's nothing left that needs your immediate attention, you're out like a light.
Me tho when travel for a hour asleep knock out from irlt
The way her mouth was open 😭😭
Joel's mindset really shows why it wasn't all that hard for him to do what he did. He doesn't believe in being a hero or even that the world is worth saving. He only believes in family, and Ellie is family to him by the end of the season.
Don't know about this Joel, but game Joel showed that right off the bat, when he refused to help a family stranded on the side of the road who were waving them down for help, arguing that since he and Tommy had Sarah to look after, everyone else could basically eat shit as far as he was concerned.
@@thecowboy9698 Movie Joel did the same thing.
Ellie: I’m not family?
Joel: Nope. You’re cargo.
Ellie: Cargo?
Joel: Yeah……car go VROOOOOOMM!!!
*it was at that moment Joel became a dad*
1:00 Love the delivery on "same mistake he made when he was 18". Can't tell if its supposed to be anger at his brother for being a dumbass, or sadness or what. But very powerful.
His accent is great. You can hear the twang in certain words that he says, if you’re from the south like I am.
lIt's more guilt than anything else for Joel, I think. He looks down on his younger brother for always believing in these moral causes that were greater than himself. Which is certainly something he felt towards Tommy when he enlisted for Desert Storm at 18. Jumping ahead to 2003, that same military system his brother believed in was also the same one that technically killed Sarah, solidifying Joel's distrust of organizations like the pre-pandemic military and (later) the Fireflies/FEDRA/etc.
Without spoiling the ending of the first game, this ends up motivating the MASSIVELY consequential decision he's likely going to make at the end of season 1.
A statement I think was really great at just showing the different perspectives of the characters is where Joel tells Ellie: "You haven't seen the world, so you don't know."
Ellie, even having gone through some traumatizing events, she still has an innocent and and idealistic mindset, whereas Joel has seen too much, and done too much to ever be able to look at things that way again.
Could be a mixture of both.
The classic sleeping Ellie jump cut
I laughed out loud when they did that jump cut. Hahaha. It was hilarious
Pretty much the same thing they did with the game
Love the lore the show is giving us. Tommy was a Army vet. Was in Desert Storm, no wonder he’s an absolute unit. The fireflies just gave him a higher Battle iQ and made him overall more lethal in a brand new world.
I agree with you, however, I could've skipped ep 3 entirely. I'm sick of this gay agenda HBO is trying to shove down my throat. Any more of that shit and I'm canceling my subscription
@@Ben-kb6vi boy do i have news for u once season 2 hits 🤣
@@lightyears-xo8qb yeah I don't think he can blame HBO for that at all 😅
@@Ben-kb6vi Life is gay. There's no agenda, live your life.
@@Ben-kb6vi you do know bill was gay in the game too lmfao
“What’s your record for most consecutive questions?”

I'm your Dad's brother alright.
You have much more hair in your nose than my dad.
Nice Uncle Buck reference. RIP John Candy!
*Yes*
Episode 4 : you are cargo
Episode 8 : babygirl
🥺❤
1:49 Vin Diesel wants your location immediately
0:51 "And that whole crew we, uhh... well, for what it was it worked." Despite how dark and depressing it would be, part of me wants to see the flashbacks to the time when Tommy, Joel and Tess (and whoever else) were fighting to survive by any means necessary.
The beauty of the structure of this story is that it allows for a prequel.
It's good worldbuilding, you can envision what life was like back then in the early days of the outbreak.
Ellie literally said “rapid fire questions, go!”
This is all good forshadowing for the absolute beast Tommy becomes later.
Becomes? Its straight up confirmed in part 2 that he did some **s h i t** while in the fireflies, slow torturong people and shit
Yeah, like being shoot in the eye and the leg by Lev and Abby. Timmy deserved better.
@@SwiftyEmpire same as Joel rights, did the show also make Joel once a firefly member like in the game ( I'm just watch the CZcams don't have ps tho ) ??
@@uthopia27 joel was never in the fireflies
It’s really weird they made him a future father in the show. I’ll wonder how they will handle it next season
Classic dad move, drinking coffee with one hand, driving with the other 😂
In not even tired
Nailed it spot on
4:23 I like how they demolished the Federal Building after the outbreak
Ellie: What if you cant find him" -> Try to conviced Joel consider she is family
Joel: I will -> Deny
Ellie: How do you know? -> Try again
Joel: I'm persistent -> Delete her hope
That's why Ellie shuts her mouth right after and sad face comes up
Good point, I didn't notice that
During TEOTWAWKI, never drive through the cities. Always bypass them.
What?
@@the20thDoctor Its an acronym. The end of the world as we know it.
@@rmo9808 thanks 🤙
@@rmo9808 At first I thought it was a reference to the Mexican town from The Shawshank Redemption.
;-)
@@roystonlodge Ahhhh, you mean Saywat2naywhoo. My home town.....
Kinda surreal to see your hometown after the end of the world.
Ikr very relatable
I hate when that happens, man.
I'd relish the opportunity
It would of been cooler if they just kept Pittsburgh like in the game though.
The scene right before this one with the porno mag is pretty much shot-for-shot how it played out in the game. And then the scene immediately after where they enter the city is also very faithful.
But in between we get this scene, which isn't in the game at all, but adds so much. We learn more about Joel and Tommy's backstory, how they met Tess, Joel's opinion of his brother, and most importantly, we get a firm indicator of the progress of Ellie and his relationship: "You're not family, you're cargo."
But of course, Joel is more attached than he lets on as we see by the end of the episode.
God tier adaptation tbh
The only time this show is actually good is when they one for one copied from the game. Only a handful of original scenes are actually good. Everything else is mid
@@Excalibur01 you're clearly not in the target audience for an adaptation if you expect it to be shot for shot the exact same as your playthrough of the game
@@jackmcfarlane7173 EXCEPT when this show DOES do shot for shot adaptation of the game...it's actually GOOD. It's only when they make up their own shit is when it's BAD
@@Excalibur01 except "they" are actually the same "they" who made both games. Neil Druckmann co-directed this show, and according to interviews and promotional material, he's the one who made a lot of those changes.
Besides, that's kind of the nature of adapting something from one medium to another. Shit is gonna be changed no matter what because it's a show, not a video game. If you were expecting it to be exactly 1-to-1 accurate all the time, that was never gonna happen.
@@jackmcfarlane7173 Druckmann is taking ALL the credit when several others also worked on the first game and they left and Druckmann alone made the 2nd game and see the quality in that one compared to the first one
Interesting they say Tommy is a Desert Storm Vet in the series. It explains why he was such a good sniper, at least in the game, however if memory serves me right, there is no dialog in the game that suggests Tommy was ever in the armed forces. Am I correct?
Considering you have to be at least 18 to sign up, Desert Storm having took place in the early 90s, and considering the events in the show take place in 2023, that would make Tommy around 50 years old, and in the game Tommy looks a lot younger than 50, by at least 10 years, and that would mean, if Joel is supposed to be older, that would make Joel older in the series than in the game.
The Gulf War (the war in which Tommy fought it) was comprised of two components: Desert Shield (1990-91) and Desert Storm (1991) so let's say Tommy joined in 1990 at 18, that would mean he would of been born in 1972 and would be 51 by the events of HBO's Last of Us.
In the tv series I believe Joel is 56
Also, the writers of the show played with the timeline, making it longer than the game (same writers as well).
Video game adaptations straight up fail because they show/movie gives us more of what we have already played. It's like a "play through" for a game you may have beaten multiple times already.
Or they change things up so much that it barely looks like the same universe.
TLoU is doing things differently, the writers have decided to tell a very similar story but making sure to hit the same milestones of the game.
@@LordNinja109 - Okay, here's a question, who do you think is gonna go down as being a bigger favorite among fans, Rick Grimes or Joel Miller?
I'm referring strictly to the TV versions of their characters, and not their comic/videogame counterparts.
Quick note, while listening to the actor speak, and thinking back to Troy Baker, I have to admit the actor does imitate the latter pretty well. The only difference is I believe Troy Baker had a stronger Southern accent.
I believe they set the show to take place in like 2003 instead of 2013, so if the math fits then that may be it
Pedro Is a amazing actor
This is the way 😊
Time stamp?
Ok.... but what exit do we take next?😉
2:12 - 2:14 lol
She's cute aww 🥺
This is how you do a live adaptation of a game. You take small liberties here and there, but this scene is close enough to the source material that they're both enjoyable in their own way.
Exactly, they adapted what scenes they needed to adapt for the show and kept the scenes from the game that still fit for a show.
When I first saw them approach the tunnel here, I thought they were gonna run into the same issue they did in Salt Lake City in the game which was 2-3 Bloaters and a horde of clickers and runners! But it was the opposite lol
The subtitles are questionable
Edit: I think it is a joke looking at it again
2:10 🤣🤣🤣
Did anyone miss the sign where it said DesMoines Iowa
Weird both of them died on GOT
1:40 there’s a car in the background.. BANDITS
Why is it that they must keep going through downtown in major cities.
i cant believe they’re playing the music from part 2 😭
This music here is from part 2? I don't remember. I thought this was some type of original score designed specifically for the show.
@@thecowboy9698 when joel mentions tess, the song is called “unbound” it’s from part 2 :)
it plays a lot throughout the sad parts of the game, and also at the end when abby and ellie fight.
Not being nit-picking to the series but as a frequent kansas city traveler; there aren't any vehicular tunnels leading into the city.
They filmed in Canada, so there is no way it's gonna look like Kansas.
Honestly should of kept Pittsburgh instead of making it Kansas City for whatever reason.
my name’s cheyenne
Joel had ALL the choices of guns and plenty of ammo from Bill's arsenal...and picks a bolt action rifle?
Barely jams, few moving parts, easy to maintain, medium to long range engagement, bolt actions are very reliable and easily maintained and in the apocalypse you want a gun like that
@@yazeedaltashkandi6736 Ok, you're one of those people who thinks the AR-15 is a piece of shit. No it's not. ANY gun can jam if you don't take care of it. The AR-15 is EASY to take apart and clean. High ammo count. Very light ammo, so you can carry hundreds of rounds and in magazines vs loose rounds for a bolt action hunting rifle that is not designed for combat.
Most gun fights are close range, which the AR can excel at and it has enough power to reach out to 500 yards. A bolt action is slow in a fight. Takes too long to reload.
@@Excalibur01 Bolties were literally the first weapons "designed for combat" . . . unless you count the Baker rifle.
ARs are great, no one's denying that. But they're also complicated and heavy.
Need to crawl through sewer sludge or bracky water and then continue using your gun for days on end? You'd want a bolt.
Close quarter engagements are rare as fuck, especially in the midwest where they're going. Anything except an ambush will turn into several hours of trading rounds until someone slips up.
If ARs were so much better, scout snipers would use them.
@Jake . . This specific rifle he has is NOT a combat rifle. It is not a Mosin, or an Enfield or a Springfield 03. It's an off the shelf hunting rifle that is not meant for fighting people.
And ARs are heavy? What? Mine is at MOST 8 POUNDS. I have slightly heavier ones at maybe 9 to 10 lbs. And complicated? You have obviously NEVER handled and field stripped an AR before.
Also, SCOUT SNIPERS. they are not Frontline dudes. They aren't actually fighters at all. In their names, they scout, provide overwatch. I know some in the Marines and a lot of them are ALSO use M110s, semi auto AR10s. For the reason that they faster firing weapons in combat vs slow firing bolt guns.
You seemed to have NO idea what an ambush it like. It is fast and you need to answer with a large volume of fire back at your ambushers to push them back and get out of there, otherwise, they have you pinned and you have no where to go.
@Jake . . they have no idea what they are walking into. The ambush inside the city is the best example of close quarters. ALL ambushes happen at close range.
I've crawled through mud before. A bolt gun is not some magic gun. You are outgunned especially if the other guy has a semi auto rifle.
Bella ramsey is my sister I wish I can live with her
I was a bit disappointed that they switched this location from Pittsburgh to Kansas City, the latter is way more less interesting imo.
Meh. I mean, a messed up city, is still just a messed up city.
@@ownlydown5933 I suppose so but it would of been nice to see Pittsburgh again in a post apocalyptic setting. Not even mentioning Pittsburgh is way more iconic than Kansas City.
czcams.com/video/PwpZlcQgs14/video.htmlsi=JSSxFWrrZVKBZAQ4&t=97
Look out the window to Joel's left. You'll see a truck going the opposite direction.
🧐
Did Joel ever fight in any wars before the apocalypse?
I doubt it since he had to raise Sarah on his own at a young age
@@TXTerrz I'm just curious because of Joel's watch
@@gibbonsgriffithsinc7731 he wears it all the time even though it’s broken because Sarah once fixed it for him
@@TXTerrz I know but I am just curious as to why Sarah had it fixed whether there is a special meaning behind the watch like he got it as a gift or something because he seems very touched when she gives him the watch back
@@gibbonsgriffithsinc7731 my guess it’s just he was always busy with work and looking after Sarah and had no time to do something for himself like get his watch fixed but Sarah being the caring daughter she is takes the time and gets his watch fixed herself even doe she used his money it was the thought that counted for Joel
Sorry.. I have said this of many many aftermath type series... roads would require clearing to make progress after even a few weeks.. after a few months then equipment might be required etc.. whoever scripted this doesn't grasp reality.
my dude, it's a tv show with fungus zombies
I wonder if she's actually gonna go through with playing a lesbian just like with her character in the game
If the next episode preview is anything to go on
2:18
Looks so fake 😂
They should go to Afghanistan lol
Huh?
Its pretty unrealistic they don’t have motion sickness
How?
It doesn't have to be realistic u dumb ahh it's a fake tv show get yo unhappy ahh on
Numbskull Not everyone has motion sickness
Like subzero said. Not everyone gets motion sickness. I get motion sickness while in cars though it's gotten better. But it doesn't mean that everyone else does. I know my dad doesn't have it.
I don't have one. Even the biggest threat were sea sickness and coach sickness, I still don't have it. But I understand how you feel about this scene, I think the fact that Ellie was holding the map made me concerned also.
Will never live up to the game
Wow tlou ps game doesn't suit the new age, gotta change the narrative until ppl forget the game
Bella Ramsey’s “acting” in this part gives me 8th grade play vibes. Something about her pretend sleeping and fake wake-up are so unrealistic and cringe. Her acting has taken me out of the moment so many times already.
EDIT: After watching the whole series I do have to give credit where credit is due, she did a great job with some of her scenes. I don't take back what I said about this scene though, it was still awful. I get the vibe she's a wildly inconsistent actor, that has the ability to give great performances but it doesn't always happen.
Then stop watching. No one's making you.
That's okay. The show's doing well, and even if you're not satisfied I'm sure Bella's acting will continue to improve. She's only 19 after all.
Finally someone who agrees
@@joshuarivard2355 Hate watchers man, gotta love em.
HBO: Thx for letting us know. We will cancel the rest of the season accordingly.
Every scene feels so forced and artificial.
Bella Ramsey sucks in this role.
Cry more
She's really good, what are you saying.
Bet you’ll still watch the show though
Bro what!!she is amazing
Damn dude, if you don't like the show just don't watch it, people have different opinions, you know.
