    Thank you for explaining this so clearly, without your video I would have never understood how graphite and charcoal can work together so well.

    This was EXACTLY what I needed to hear. Thank you for a very logical and detailed explanation, I learned more of exactly what I needed in one video than I’ve been able to get from many others combined. Excellent!!!❤

    Wow! I am self-taught and this lesson from you using my two favourite pencils - graphite and charcoal. I am very excited to start this technique - this technique is what I have been missing in my toolbox. Thank you very much.

      @@EceGurlerArt isn't it important to make sure the soft medium and hard groups of both Charcoal and graphite go together? Or can we just mix any grade of graphite and charcoal throughout the drawing?

    • @EceGurlerArt
      @EceGurlerArt  Před 2 lety +1

      @@allencampbell1058 very good question! First, hard graphite and hard charcoal are different as the hard charcoal is just harder to blend and it hangs on to tooth better, gives a finer point BUT it is as black as the soft one. With graphite on the other hand, the shade of gray gets lighter as the pencil becomes harder. When we mix both together,I suggest using the charcoal first, blending it with a tissue or brush and get a nice tonal change, then decide on the best graphite pencil to continue that shading but don’t forget, graphite gets probably lighter when you blend. If it does, you can go in with a second layer. I highly recommend 2B pencil as it gives a range of 4B-HB by applying low and high pressure. Hope this helps!

      @@EceGurlerArt So should stay within the family groups example like if I use a 2B charcoal and 2B graphite will it make a difference or not at all?

    • @EceGurlerArt
      @EceGurlerArt  Před 2 lety +1

      @@allencampbell1058 It really depends if you are blending them out or not. Once you blend 6B extra soft charcoal, you can get shades from HB to 6B... And a charcoal pencil's blackness will be always higher than graphite. A 2B Charcoal could still be darker than a 6B graphite. In overall, my answer is no. It won't make a difference.

    I understood what you were doing up until you started the portrait. Between speeding it up and talking about 4B, 6B, etc, I did't get it. What I learned is that you need to blend charcoal first then add graphite on top.

      Yes you can. Spray can change the graphite a bit to a darker tone, just beware

    Am a self taught artist from Nairobi Kenya who started off with graphite and as i became better i started experimenting with charcoal to get better depth, people tell me i can earn good money through my work, but before i can dive into commerce, i have so many questions, can i get your email please? I lack mentors as this type of art has not caught on here.
