00:00 Why I learn from essays
00:50 How long is a grade 9 essay?
01:25 How many explanations for grade 9?
02:00 How many QUOTES?
02:33 How many METHODS?
03:38 Surprising HACK
04:03 How many PARAGRAPHS?
04:59 START with the EXTRACT?
06:52 SOCIETY is the ultimate word
Summary:
- It seems like that the more explanations (interpretations, Shakespeare's purpose,..) you write, the higher your mark.
However, grade 9 students use fewer words as they have a fantastic vocabulary, while average students tend to explain with more lengthy sentences
REMEMBER: Quality > Quantity
- Use a variety of quotes (average grade 9 student used 13-15 quotes) - I would recommend to use quotes that perhaps not many people may tend to use, just to make sure you stand out in your essay
- Explore writer's methods and purpose - use subject terminology (foreshadowing, contrast, metaphor,..), also namedrop "Shakespeare" adequately to force yourself in writing about his purpose and ideas
- Average grade 9 student wrote around 9 paragraphs (around 100 words) - you don't have to follow a certain structure or anagram, be unique !
- Just focus on explaining Shakespeare's ideas as best as you can with the best evidence
- Include relevant context which links to the quote or Shakespeare's ideas or message
- Examiners reward a coherent argument, so you could follow a chronological order to write your essay which makes it really simple to build a convincing argument
- Three-part thesis beginning followed by a conclusion ( +quote at the end which looks at the final change to the character or the theme)
- Conclusion must link to Shakespeare's ideas - you may want to add comments about society at that time (King James, Divine Right of Kings, Great Chain of Being, Role of women,..)
Hope this helps !
9 🙆 i write 5 im cooked
lifesaver 🙏🙏
@@boat-guy3176 I write 4 😭
15 quotes in one macbeth essay ?
I did 3 quotes in my mock and got Grade 9
@@melonsama5229 im guessing they broke down the quotes into smaller ones
Bro how the frick are you supposed to crunch 900 words in 45 minutes
some people are probably just really good at pulling ideas out of quotes really quickly as they probably understand the entire book AND either that they can write really fast with a pen or they speed type on a computer.
a word every 3 seconds isn't that bad tbf
@@Chess_innit-lk7ldat a grade 9 level? Yes it is

Please can you do more merchant of venice content
i havent done any english literature exams (i abstained both in year 10 and year 11 mocks 😭) but how realistic is it getting my english grade 4 to a 9? i really need to get as high as i can but i’m not a quick writer
Be selective with your quotes and learn analysis.
is it possible to get grade 9 by writing 3 big main paragraphs?(1 for the extract and 2 for the whole play)
Yes
im a bit confused abt the structure of essays and also what each paragraph is meant to look like so say its abt ambition ru meant to talk abt how ambition develops?? i watch ur vids but i dont understand that well
Yes, how it develops
Do you have to structure your essay chronologically?
No, it is just easier to get top grades that way
How do u write about alternative inferences without like going against urself
I feel like add a point after which explains why you don’t agree with it
Also I’m not exactly sure i don’t get good grades so don’t take this for fact 🥲
You can also use tentative language like "it may also be seen as this" or "and alternative perspective" or sm like that
@@smuggoat5595 ohhhhh Yh I heard something like that so it shows another perspective not necessarily your own
Is each paragraph a certain length?
No. Paragraphs don't matter
Does this mean it’s 9 paragraphs per question??
No
Thank you for replying so quickly!!
