I don't comment on these videos too often but I just wanted to thank you for making this video and for that speech about preparing for the future. I turned 20 years old two days ago and recently got a part time job working at my local Autozone selling car parts and accessories. It's not glamorous or sexy by any means but it is a stepping stone for me to get to the next part of the plan that I am setting up for myself over the next 5 years. The speech you gave near the end of the video about needing to decide between being the guy who lives a glamorous life in the short term, burning through all your money and paying the price for the rest of your life, or being the boring guy for next 10-15 years but enjoying the later years of your life really spoke to me because as me and my friends are getting older, I am starting to notice this shift in our life goals and decisions.
For me personally, I would much rather be the boring guy for the next couple years doing the right thing and preparing for the future. However, my friends and other people my age don't seem to care that much about thinking long term and have no idea where they would like to be in the next 5 years let alone the next 50 years. I don't look down on them or judge them for thinking that way, it's just interesting to me how quickly our lives are diverging away from each other just after leaving high school.
Anyways, sorry I'm rambling at this point. Just wanted to say thank you for making this video and thank you for continuing to make the content that you do. In my opinion, no matter what anyone says, Alpha Investments is such a unique and important part of the Magic community as well as the Investor/Collector community at large. Whether it's patreon booster box openings or creepy Rudy with the pink visor talking about tacos in his basement, I truly love and appreciate everything that you do. Enjoyed the video. I love listening to these serious topics. One of the videos you did where you mentioned that paychecks are a limited income and you only get so many in your life really stuck with me. It was one of those things I couldn't shake out of my head. Eventually, it led to me quitting my crappy retail job where my boss didn't treat me right. He kept giving me the shit shift where I'd be working night shift and then coming back in 6 hours later for midday shift. I had been talking about going to college since at least May of last year. Before I knew it, it was November and really had been 6 months since I even opened my FAFSA.
I will be attending college in less than 2 weeks. I have another crappy retail job, but I have a different boss and am lucky in that I have a support network to help me and my cost to attend is incredibly low for the first couple of semesters. Your words sat in my ear like a worm and it did subtly change how I view things. Thank you for making these videos, even if they cover a boring topic.
If Rudy participated in the marshmallow experiment about delaying gratification as a child, he'd still have the marshmallows in his Phyrexian towers today.
Seriously, I didn't know what I expected from this perticular video while laying in bed waiting to go to sleep. I enjoyed your honest take on the reality of the whole situation with regards to various aspects and differences which could alter the whole out come. And all of that rounded up in a really honest life lesson like ending which just fitted incredibly well. Thank you and your pink hat, this was truly amazing!

Typically when an "expensive coffee" is quoted it's a 24ounce/710ml made from blended ice, coffee/espresso with any number of things added (end result is similar to a milkshake). There are plenty of places you can get something for 4 to 5 USD. In cities its common to see price hikes due to offset higher rent as well as a healthy share of exaggeration for added effect.
An actual cup of coffee is still 1-2 USD in most places, Americans aren't going around paying $7 for a standard cup of black coffee. It's turned into a running joke culturally to quote high prices for coffee in the US.
@666LaVey666 ever heard of the 60 dollar tea house that was the fad not long ago or the 80 dollar coffee pastry shop... you go there cuz peer pressure also money talks so it set nice place to do business (keeps loud people out)... i am guessing start bucks does something similar some lvl... i won a 50 dollar voucher at the airport to some hipster coffee shop cafeine level pretty good rather take pills since I can't hold urge to urinate very well...

Great chat! I had an investment property and I sold it. My renters were garbage, but now that I make a little more money, I wish I had found a way to keep it. I had a baby coming at the time I sold it and knew it was a monthly expense or liability I couldn't afford. After you explained the tax write off portion of the mortgage and my wife and I make more money... that would be nice right now.

Phrexian Tower, yes I watched to the end I generally always do. Big plans as of last 6 months to the next block of my life to move in on my first house at a late age, better late then never. So this video was a good interception and I always enjoy all your videos. You have a life's worth of robust information and more importantly a positive attitude and the desire and will to do what ever it takes, and to genuinely want to help others which does actually make a difference. I'm sorry but it's ladies of the "evening" bubbles has forever shaped that expression for me. Keep the mission going, pink visor and all.

I LOVE THIS SERIES RUDY .. I was struck by lightning a year ago...we used all our savings on medical and dental bills, and are now rebuilding and i am working part time. My wife and i live in Seattle... we are in our late 30s/early 40s and together bring in around 110 to 120k a year...rent is 3k a month for a 2 bedroom 700 sq foot 1960s townhouse. This info is very very helpful, when the MEDIAN house is 760k and we are probably shopping around the 400 to 450k range... which means

He makes to much money to receive a deduction from passive losses. The phase out period for passive losses is from 100k to 150k of income.
for a new fan aged a couple days in this channel, I don't know what to say, but for someone like me in his early 20s, I am happy to say that your video really opened something in my mind, and I will take your advice and will do my best to maintain it as much as I can.

Person clearly has more than 6 months of expenses in liquidity. Max out the 403(b) to the yearly limit (not the match), max out the IRA, and increase the principal paydown on the primary residence and chop off the 5.5% hanger.
With all of that, the person should be free and financially clear and independent in less than 2 years with the opportunity to more heavily invest in broad stock market indices or Arabian Nights Desert buy-outs.
This is the answer, folks. Simple, and efficient. I disagree w/ Rudy about the real estate based on what's on the white board. The general message of the video is great though.

Wise words. That's why I'm working so hard right now and plan on working hard for the next 5 to 10 years: when I'm 60 years old I don't wanna have to stress about money anymore. If you're smart with your time and money you can still have fun when you're young while being responsible financially.
I would have added precious metals and commodity. Silver/gold and oil, specifically. What makes it great is they are (usually) in opposition with the market so there is always an opportunity. If market falls, metals go up, so you can switch back and forth based on which part of the cycle we're in.
