    I remember just a few years ago watching her stuff, listening to her podcast, and struggling massively with my disordered eating. I totally agreed with your point that she may just be too close to see how this appears.

    I think it’s situational. The sentiment towards not obsessing over diet culture is certainly a nice message for those who need to hear it and be easier on themselves. On the other hand, losing 70 lb of body fat through healthier life choices has dramatically improved my quality of life and general capability. I believe there’s a balance that comes with sustaining health, yet not letting it consume you or cause stress. Certainly nuance to the topic

    This is so true. I thought it was so insightful that they ahve caught onto the push against diet culture and are manipulating it now, I’ve noticed it a lot and it’s disheartening. Love you!! Always a queen

    Thank you for sharing your perspective! I definitely see both sides of the token. I think it’s important to educate ourselves in this area & make sure we don’t harm individuals that have ED tendencies. However, my question is if someone is truly affected by someone’s content because it triggers ED tendencies then why don’t they ditch whoever’s content they are following? I realize it’s really not that simple, but just a thought.

      As you said, it’s not that simple. When someone who follows Sarah and has an eating disorder, they probably feel like they have to do it to look like Sarah or „be healthy“. I’m not talking about a healthy person but people with eating disorders are mentally ill! They cannot just unfollow because they probably don’t think it’s harmful. That’s the whole marketing scheme she wants them to think this will help them!

    • @MalloryJPage
      @MalloryJPage  Před 2 lety +1

      I totally understand this question Lena! You’re right that it isn’t that simple, sadly. After working with hundreds of women struggling with ED’s they typically don’t unfollow for three reasons: 1. they themselves don’t see that it’s “triggering” they almost think of it as motivation or what they should be doing (this is how i felt). 2. they know it is triggering but use it as negative “motivation”. 3. they feel “bad” unfollowing. i know that sounds weird but i have so often seen people form and attachment to creators they follow. especially if they like their personality but not what they share. There is a lot that goes into this and the answer would probably be slightly different for everyone. I hope this helps and really appreciate your perspective!

      @@MalloryJPage Thank you for sharing!! Like most things you can’t really wrap your head around it unless you have been through it yourself! It’s definitely something that may be mentally & emotionally crippling & it’s not an easy fix. Thanks for your perspective girl!

    As someone who follows Sarah, I love her personality but her relationship with "health" definitely has room to improve. When she was sick she was all worried about not working out and pushed herself to do an "easy" workout. If your sick you might actually just need to rest. There's so much fear/stress for her it seems. No shame at all, everyone has their own journey but maybe she isn't the best person to be giving advice. Also Abbey Sharp did a review on Sarah's app and OMG ITS BAD

      Any advice given online is toxic to someone but it doesn’t make it wrong. It only makes it wrong to some and in that case it isn’t good advice to those who find it wrong. The “policing,” “canceling,” and “calling out” on social media has gotten ridiculous. If you don’t like the advice or you find it triggering then move along. For others it may be helpful and it isn’t your place to decide that for them.
