As above. I am an Irish fan for many many years.
I remember watching us struggle to not get the wooden spoon in the 5 then the 6 nations every dang year. I remember when drawing with England was an achievement on par with a grand slam.

I hope you're right but I fear it's gone deeper than that. We have 4 football codes competing for the young athletic pool of talent.
Out of every 100 boys now you would be lucky to find more than 2 boys whose ambition would be to play for the Wallabies. That might be zero after this disaster. The rest are lost to AFL, NRL or soccer.
The lack of interest in the RWC here before the comp started speaks volumes.

@@Wildkard exactly, that’s the most worrying thing for us kiwis. Australia need to sort this out very quickly. From a NZ POV, without strong competition from Australia, the domestic comp becomes worse and worse, the quality of our players declines further and further, and our national players go into the international season less prepared every year. We’ve already seen the effect of not having regular competition with South African teams. The game down here begins to die a slow painful demise if this problem isn’t solved within the next few years.

Eddie Jones (side-show Eddie) seems averse to this - it's about mentoring, team culture and identity. It's not nice at all seeing it, but it's what you have to expect if you're the captain, because people will ask many questions of you when the team underperforms, because as captain, you're the main leader of the team. I'm South African and it wasn't too long ago I felt like this about our rugby. The future looked so scary. It took great leadership to get us out of that situation. People coming in that genuinely care and have a plan for the future. What people don't see is the grassroots changes that have been made in the past few years for SA. Big decisions like leaving Super Rugby for the benefit of our players were also made. Australia needs that great leadership now like we got, not some bloke making this all about himself. I feel your pain, I've been there. Hope to see SA vs Aus be the juggernaut game it used to be in the near future. Don't lose hope

  • @ryansimms31

The sad thing about during the final 10 minutes of watching this game on my TV, is when the camera flicked to the people in the crowd, you can see a pack of Australia Wallabies supporters leaving their seats to go back to their hotel rooms before it was even Full Time!
I'm so happy and proud that Wales absolutely crunched Australia, from outsmarting The Wallabies on both the scrums and the lineouts!
Wales out there felt so confrontable, after a while it felt like I was watching Wales doing their warm-ups but live!
For the Wallabies.... What an absolute shocker of a game that was! Eddie Jones 'has really brought the Australian style of rugby!'....By the Wallabies kicking the ball into the dead ball line. Kicking their ball 2 meters straight up to the air where all of the birds are. And dropping tons of balls left, right and center. Since it was all due to the Wales pressure attack. And also picking to go for 3 points. That must be the classic Australian way of playing rugby!
Also If you watch the Half Time show I agree with both Sonny Bill WIlliams and Micheal Hooper on both thinking that this year's Wallabies World Cup squad would have been good if Eddie had a good mix of experience and new players in. For the experienced players to guide the newbies to experience their first or second World Cup. Then for Eddie Jones to get rid of the 2 experienced Wallabies star players out of the World Cup! ( Micheal Hooper-Ex Oringal Captain/Quade Cooper). Only for Eddie to build a New Wallabies team to the world cup.
I feel for Micheal Hooper.....Micheal over the 3 years had tons of experience working hard for not only playing for the Waratahs in the Super Rugby Pasifika Competition. But also took part of all the other Rugby Championship tournaments from over the past 4 years...Just for him to find out that he isn't apart of this year's Australia World Cup squad.... Literally all for nothing!
Same with Quade Cooper...Like him or not, he's still a quality star player with some World Cup experience from (2011 to 2015)...Still He wasn't even picked either.

It's painful to see how far backwards the Wallabies have gone. So many positives going on in world rugby at the moment. Even this world cup, teams like Portugal and Uruguay have clearly made a lot of progress. Hell, I've probably even seen more exciting passages of play coming out of Chile than I have the Wallabies.
I think that even if we went into this world cup with Rennie and the squad he had been building, it was never guaranteed that we were making out, but we might have actually looked like we stood a chance.
Wales have been struggling recently too, but have atleast managed to pull themselves together and front up with a squad that actually has some cohesion and an obvious game plan. Fiji are proof that you don't need massive amounts of cash or all of your players competing domestically to put a competitive team together. Why RA can't figure any of this out I don't know, but something needs to change.

Agree, Rennie was in the latter part of a solid building phase with hints of good things to come. He had genuine talent in the group. Feels like a massacre since Jones came on the scene. (Saffa)

Australia did not want to be there. Let's be honest. If they did, they wouldn't have allowed themselves to make some of the most idiotic decisions on the field. But that is exactly what happened. They weren't interested in trying to keep 15 players on the field. They were just happy to concede idiotic penalties.

11th out of ten. Brilliant comment Wildkard. You pretty much summed up rugby in the south at the moment. Apart from Fiji. Sorry. Too soon? Anyway, normally us Kiwis like to put the boot in when the Wallabies lose but this is different, it's a watershed moment, there has to be strengthening across the whole region, working together. Feel your pain ... have a gut feeling ours is still to come.

      @JackKinross Před 9 měsíci

@@Wildkard Yep, the whole thing needs a serious rethink. Compare that Boks/Ireland game to recent Bleds and it's a huge gap in skill level and intensity. The Top 14 in France and even the URC are superior products and breeding grounds than Super now so unless we match that the pain will continue, maybe get worse.

Im actually upset with Wallabies performance as a Springbok fan. Southern Hemisphere is being overpowered by the Northern Hemisphere. The day South Africa exited super rugby it is the day we started seeing the drop in performance in NZ and Australian teams. Look at the Northern Hemisphere? This is because they are now getting challenged by SA teams.

@abulelemntwini650 most def. When you had three big nations playing in the super rugby and Rugby Championship. It was epic then we added Pumas, you can see they too are getting to the standard gradually. But with us out of super rugby, they no proper challenge. I cannot believe that the whole Australian players are playing such poor rugby?

Love the passion mate. Summing up how a lot of us are feeling. I was lucky enough to grow up in the golden era. What has happened to the game and the Wallabies is a tragedy. As fans we need to stick with the game and the team, despite the pain, because otherwise Rugby will be completely fucked in Australia. Well done mate, only person calling it as it is and saying what most are thinking. Past players are too polite to say otherwise and any chat about this being the result of a 20yr decline are a cop out for what's happening right now at RWC23. RA and Eddie Jones are obvious targets to blame but the players today didn't do the jersey justice today (barring James Slipper who dominated the scrum whilst out of position & injured).
As a tragic who follows and endures Super Rugby, I still believe out of all of Australia (and overseas) the Wallabies could have brought a squad of 33 that would have been competitive (especially with the draw). Wallabies fans aren't that hard to please, to butcher this entire campaign this badly is an incredible unforced error.

    • @Wildkard

Mate we had such a good draw. Wales was in shambles and we had so much foundation build by rennie. And eddie jones took a dump on all that. Disgraceful
