Feel really bad for Michael Hooper, he had Eddie's back even when he wasn't selected (which is BS, should have been selected) and everything was turning to shit in the RWC23, Michael still supported him but for Eddie to come out and say he wasn't the right role model or even motivated to win and that his time had past is complete bullshit and a slap in the face to Michael. Out of that whole squad Michael is by far the one to go the extra mile and never give up even when things aren't looking good.

100%, not only that, up until Hoops' abrupt axing Eddie was telling the press that Hoops was the hardest trainer, the fittest in the team, and setting the standard. WTF happened? Was Hoops questioning some of Eddie's theories? He had an average game against SA but champions rise when it's time and having Hoops around a squad is invaluable in the pressure cooker of the WC. This was just one of the thousand mind-boggling things that Eddie did.

Agree, Hoops was retiring after the WC, so we'll never see him in the national 15-man game again. This exacerbated how terrible Eddie's decision was to cut the career short of our longest-serving wallaby so Eddie could run his mad failed experiment. Still, Hoops has remained professional, just highlighting his leadership credentials and further exposing the unstable mind of Eddie.

Absolutely, I think that's the worst thing about his tenure. It's awful that so many Australian stalwarts weren't given an opportunity to bring all the toil over the last few years into fruition for a shot at the world cup.
It also robbed Aussie fans of seeing them have a crack - even as a farewell.

The sad part about Eddie Jones is his fall from an admired coach at the Brumbies to Super 12 Cup, coaching Australia to a win over the British and Irish Lions in 2001 and into the 2003 final, losing against the best England team in its history, then consulting at the Boks (Jake White and Eddie Jones being such good friends) for the 2007 WC (Which I think was a masterstroke), coaching Japan into a formiddable team and building the foundations in Japan (thus beating the Boks), to starting very well at England to end up going into a downward spiral. I just wonder whether the chase for fame and something bigger did not corrupt his own individual standing and viewpoint as a person.
I still do respect him as a coach, but somehow he needs to regain what he had lost as a person.

    • @footyfin
      @footyfin Před 8 měsíci +2

Correction there my friend - his predecessor at both the Brumbies and Wallabies was Rod MacQueen, who laid the foundations of success for both teams ... EJ just came in on Rod's coattails in both cases. Rod was Wallabies coach when they won the 1999 RWC and when they defeated the Lions in 2001.
But interesting thoughts and yes there has been something going on - e.g. a personal crisis or possibly just not coping with it all.

What I would love, and I know it's a stretch but not impossible is Michael Hooper to captain the Wallabies at the 27 RWC. I have so much respect for Hoops. The way he has handled the Eddie Jones debacle has been pure class.
Moving forward, WildKard and fellow WildKard subscribers, who do you think is the best fit to be the next Wallabies coach? Larkham's name has been thrown around a bit. I hope Cheika doesn't put he hand up again, I'm personally not a big fan. It's a shame someone like John Eales isn't interested, I reckon he has all the characteristics to make an amazing coach.

What's a worse hit for Australian Rugby? Firing this guy after the Wales loss and just settling his contract? Or allowing him to turn around and say "see ya" after that global humiliation?
Australian Rugby should've just taken the fiscal hit and saved some face after that embarrassing debacle and publicly given the guy his marching orders as soon as it became clear that they weren't going to make it out of one of the easiest groups on their own terms.

It baffles me how even countries outside of Australia want to see the Wallabies thrive again, yet, our own board can't seem to get the system right. Yes, it will require a huge overhaul, but where are our legends from the 90s and stand out players from the past decade in this equation? There are people with heart and knowledge about the game who have worn the green and gold jersey, but no one is putting their hand up. Albeit, the situation is dire, but it's hard enough as a spectator to watch the disarray that's occuring, how are ex high profile union players watching this go by? Eddie Jones....
-Mr ''I'm committed to Rugby Australia''. Even the reporter ask him again for Eddie to be 100% clear about what he had just said, and Eddie was still committed to Rugby Australia apparently.
-Mr ''I'm sorry for the Wallabies fans for the 2 World Cup losses to both Fiji and Wales, it's my responsibility, and I'll try my hardest to fix it!'''
    - Backstabbed his own home country's captain Micheal Hooper, who Micheal supported Eddie during his time at commentary, during the Stan Sports show during the World Cup.
-Backstabbed not just the Oringial Wallabies Veteran Captain Micheal Hooper.....But also both Quade Cooper (Love him or Hate Him. He's still a reasonable, quality player), and Bernard Foley as well. But Eddie being Eddie said Fu*k that, they are too good to pick and Eddie went with fresher, new players all over to the World Cup!
-Also Eddie, what do you mean when he says that the Wallabies senior players are too good to fly over? It's a fricken World Cup! Just bring your senior players over to the World Cup, since the World Cup happens every 4 years!
-Make his Wallabies Rugby World Cup Squad around him Hell! For expecting the new fresher players to be perfect under the pressure. Also He changed Captains from Will Skelton to then David Poriciki.
For me I absolutely feel for the Wallabies World Cup team. Since the Wallabies needed a good mix of both the fresher new players and the experienced players as well. So when things goes tight the Wallabies experienced players will claim down the new players. Than just having less experienced players with more new fresher players into a World Cup!
-Had a Record low of (2-7-0)
    Wins:
    Beat Georgia 35-15
    Beat Portugal 34-14
    Losses:
    Lost to Fiji 15-22
    Lost to Wales. 6-40
    Lost to France. . 17-41. . (Warm-up match)
Lost to All Blacks. 20-23. (Bledisole Cup)
Lost to All Blacks. 7-38 (Rugby Championship)
Lost to Argentina. 31-34 (Rugby Championship)
Lost to South Africa 12-43 (Rugby Championship)

I do think that Wildkard was correct when he said the rugby in Australia needed to be fixed from the ground up. Let's not focus on EJ - yes it was a mess. Yes he went into this without a proper plan. Yes not taking some older players was not appropriate. However you were right about the fact that reducing the number of super teams only gives you a short term sugar hit. I was amazed by that comment it's correct so we need a far better plan. I don't see any real will within Australia to make those changes.

I will always remember Jones as a guy who became the greatest example of a hero turned villain after he led Japan to their famous WC victory over South Africa, the only time in their history they achieved this, before coming to England. I just don't know what the hell happened that led to it, but he had become so arrogant over the 6-7 seasons he was in charge of them. It's gas to think I once admired him but whenever I see him on the news, I switch to a different channel straightaway. The things he said, the conduct he made of himself, I thought to myself, 'Has any other coach ever acted that way?' He often came across like the Jose Mourinho of rugby.
And here he is now. He has endured quite possibly the biggest fall from grace in the history of the sport. Very, very few people in the sport have collapsed more than he has. He was a great once; now he is great at one thing. Being a complete joke.

The Sydney Morning Herald no less actually editorialised against Hamish. I’m *so* pissed off he hasn’t done the honourable thing and resigned. Even a shred of due diligence regarding Jones’ recent shenanigans in RFU set-up would have shown a retreaded EJ was *not* a suitable Wallabies Head Coach candidate - especially only months out from a RWC.

There are a number of good young players in the Australian team who were poorly coached and poorly led. If Hooper and a few older heads had been in the team, the latter issue would have been fixed, and they would not have folded easily against teams like Fiji and Wales. As a kiwi, utmost respect for Hooper, he has been your consistently world-class player for the last decade, and one guy I wish we had in the AB's, but dont know what we would have done with both him and McCaw. Obviously a class person also. That young guy Bell in the front row has a big future. Don't write-off Carter Gordon, he has some promising skills, but should never have been taken as the lone specialist first five. I think the real struggle going forward is going to be depth, and restoring confidence in some of these guys. And it is going to take a coach with balls to pick this lot up. Could try Jamie Joseph. Hopefully your administrators don't spend all the money on league guys.

The fact that he is statistically the worst ever coach of Australia during his 2nd spell, has taken Australia to new records in terms of the worst ever defeat to South Africa since 2008 (to a South African 2nd Team!), to the bottom of the Rugby Championship and to the earliest ever exit from the Rugby World Cup in a pool which was one of the easiest on paper, is called karma for ignoring the fact that Jones is toxic and is past his best as a coach. It is no coincidence that England did better at the RWC and finished 3rd because they sacked him. The fact they sacked Dave Rennie for one bad defeat to Italy despite the number of players unavailable due to injury and replaced him with Jones who oversaw Australia losing to everyone is laughable but also embarrassing for the ARU board who made the decision to sack Rennie for Jones and they should be held accountable for the recent failures which is caused by this one decision they made and they should all resign too (rather than be allowed to decide on Jones's replacement). His comments about Michael Hooper are utterly disgraceful and show why he is toxic and needed to go despite the fact that Hooper is one of the greatest players to ever play for the Wallabies (and I say that as an Englishman!). Totally agree with everything you said in your rant and if Japan are stupid enough to re-hire Jones, then they deserve the worst to happen to them and will also reap what they sow.

Thanks for the comment, the chairman and the board needs to go or australian rugby is done. The eddie jones is just one of the stupidity they have done. They offered the highest rugby contract in australia ever to a 19 year old rugby league winger joseph sualii whos has 50% tackle rate, never played origin never won premiership, not good enough to be selected for Australia so he played for samoa. Can hardly get a starting spot in his club team.whiles top people are leaving for japan cos rugby australia "cant afford" to keep them.
