Even if Sam Raimi didn't like Venom, he was the perfect guy to turn Venom into a horror film. Too bad Sony didn't go with the horror route.
Sony should’ve just gotten someone else to do a Symbiote spin-off trilogy with Tobey Maguire's Spidey still in it.
Either James Cameron or Tim Burton would be right for this saga.
When you think of it, Spider-Man 3 IS a horror film. A sugarcoated one nonetheless.
Wasnt Raimi original plan not to have Venom at all, but to make Peter become arrogant and prideful due to his successes of being Spiderman instead

Harry, Sandman and Vulture were going to be the only antagonists, but Avi Arad pushed for Venom despite Raimi hating the character. Regarding Peter's arc, it seems it was going to be the same thing
@@GiovanniAlckmimRussoI don’t think Raimi hated Venom but rather he didn’t understand the character due to him growing up on the older comics. Venom was a relatively new character from the 90’s.
@@XxHUNT3RN4T0RxXit makes no sense why would Peter suddenly reverse back to becoming prideful and arrogant he already learned from both Spiderman 1 and 2 is to humble and respectful.
The last part does happen in the film , it’s why he can’t get through to mj

Despite Sam Raimi not wanting to do Venom, he still portrayed a scary version of the character. Even to this day, Spider-Man 3 Venom to me is more disturbing than Tom Hardy Venom even though he’s the more comic accurate version.
Even I found Topher's Venom scary.
Tom's Venom is a literal child compared to Topher's and Tony's versions.
I love Tom Hardy's Venom, but he is represented as a joke. Venom as a concept, if done right is truly disturbing. That picture where Venom is holding Peter by his eye socket is really freaky.
We’ll I think they went towards the more modern friendlier venom in the tom hardy films
Venom Movie Venom is my favourite version of Venom, he's literally a Symbiote. Needing Eddie to live, while giving Eddie new powers, strength, and most importantly, a buddy~ I want to have Venom from the movie since he doesn't turn Eddie into something he's not over time

I feel bad for Raimi as you can tell his heart wasn’t in this one, I would have been curious to see what Raimi’s take on Spider-Man 3 without studio interference actually looked like!

@@WarpingFist Oh Yeah I know that Venom replaced the Vulture who Raimi wanted instead and whilst Venom is a great foil for Spider-Man I’m fine missing out on him if I feel the version we get is an inferior take!

I like the fact that with the deleted scenes they would have depicted this version of Venom as a being that initially presents itself as a symbiotic creature but slowly reveals itself to be parasitic by taking over the victim’s body and only becoming obvious when it’s too late or the victim’s too far gone. This is accentuated with the deleted scene where Eddie was revealed to be killed by the symbiot bonding with him. It’s a very Sam Rami depiction to bad it was deescalated for the final film. It’s a version of the character that I wouldn’t want to see replace the original in all media but it would have been a very interesting take for this universe’s version.
Yeah, guess Sony didn't want SM3 to give kids nightmares, which...I totally understand. But I wish they'd release an actual director's cut with these scenes for teens and adults
@@deepflare1028 something similar, the actual first draft of the "final" version with Venom is in the SM3 novel. The reason it didn't come to happen was because test audiences were supposedly to be traumatized.

I am still scared of this version of Venom even as a young adult. Sam Raimi really did well with the horror element of this Venom.

They did do great making him feel like he was from another planet
I think there are two extra deleted scenes that you forgot:
The first was right after Eddie gets fired from the Bugle, and Spider Man in the black goes out web swinging, there would’ve been a montage similar to the first Spider-Man movie where he’s fighting crime, except he was more aggressive and violent.
The second was at the
construction site, when the SWAT team go in to try to save Mary Jane being held hostage, the SWAT team would be foiled by both Venom and Sandman. But Venom was being more vicious and brutal.
(Similar to Spider-Man 2, when Doc Ock’s mechanical arms attack a medical crew)
The part where spider-man swings is included in the editors cut of the film. I can’t really recall the montage part. I believe you’re referring to the images of black suit spidey having a bunch of crooks webbed up? I recall those just being promotional photos and unused bugle images.
Even after so many years, Spider-Man 3 is still a mystery....
They should've kept the Venom animatronic in because Venom is supposed to look unnatural, especially for the church scene.
I think when they say “unnatural” they mean it looked fake and like a toy.

Alot of people give tophers version of venom crap..... mainly because he wasn't 8'5 and roided out of his mind.
This version of venom is alot closer to the original comics than people realize.
The horror aspect was toned down so much because peoples children were crying and running out of the theatre at test screenings.
They had so much planned for venom in Spider-Man 3 and its a damn shame that it gets so much crap by people who dont know otherwise.
Given how many times I had to step out of the theatre and pretend to go to the bathroom when I was a kid seeing that movie for the first time, I believe it. But when I came back and realized I missed the birth of Venom scene, the character I've been waiting the whole movie to see, I weathered the rest of the movie despite being easily spooked by the loud sudden noises (That one scene in the climax with the upside-down Venom jumpscare still makes me jump even today.)
I even remember getting emotional and crying all the way to the credits when Harry died. Then I went home and played the videogame and when I got to Venom, I just thought "Why is his mouth hanging open?" And "He just dies?!" Seeing the original design for this Venom and the cut ending where he's just a skeleton would have given me nightmares.

I dont think people will take Tom hardys version seriously as time goes on...
And as time goes on.... art is improved over time. I believe spidy 3 and its version of venom.has aged incredibly well and I can't say the same for the new versions of him out now.

I always thought that it would've been really cool if Harry got the Symbiote in the movie because then the plot could've focused on how anger and hatred is all consuming. Peter could resist the allure of its power because at the end of the day he has people like Mary Jane and Aunt May to pull him back from the darkness, whereas Harry has nothing but his hatred for Peter and because of that the Symbiote is able to bond and consume him. I don't know that just seems like something that could've been done to use Venom while also concluding the Harry vs Peter arc that the movies had been building up towards.

@@deepflare1028 I don't know much about Harry or the Symbiote from the game. But the version of Harry I would be shooting for if I'd written Spider-Man 3 would be a man who has nothing but his hatred to keep him going. Because he lost MJ, he lost his father, Spider-man is hailed as a hero while he's viewed as a corporate failure due to Otto Octavius's experiments, and worst of all his father died prouder of Peter than him. And it would be those emotions that the Symbiote feeds off of until there's literally nothing left of him but a pile of bones that no longer resemble that of a man. As for why he would look more like Spider-Man than the Green Goblin? That would be because deep down he envies Peter, so the Symbiote would turn him into a demonic Spider-Man because Harry wants Peter's powers, MJ's love, his father's approval, and Spider-Man's fame.
Yeah it would of perfectly encapsulated Harry’s gradual descent into madness because he’s lost everything and the only thing he has left is animosity through the symbiote.
@@reloadedspade176 I agree, for me it always bothered me how Harry in Spider-Man 3 almost took a backseat for a good part of the movie once the Symbiote was introduced. Because I always felt the ending of the second one was setting up for a very Harry centric story, but come the third one he just sort of gets glossed over.

Just a slight correction, in Ultimate Spider-Man, that wasn't his uncle's killer, just some dude who robbed a shop and killed a man, who Symbiote Spider-Man then projects the guy in his mind as his Uncle's killer
I wish to see in the comics a version of venom inspired by John Carpenter's The Thing or some HP Lovecraft cosmic horror concepts, I think with that tone some of the Raimi's deleted ideas could work so much better.
Spiderman 3's venom is actually the best live action adaptation we'll ever get of doppelganger because his character is far similar than it is to comic venom

@WarpingFist In my (humble) opinion, I would’ve put Sandman in an opening fight, that’s it. The rest of the movie then could’ve focused on Peter against Harry, which would eventually lead to Peter taking the symbiote off and it going to Harry. Basically I think Spider-Man 2 the game minus Kraven is what we should’ve got.

I love your Raimi Spider-Man videos... I feel like I am such a big lore nerd for these and it's nice to share that with other people... I do hope we can continue to get more and more info for the trilogy because each time I learn something new I feel transported to being a kid again or like I'm living on a branch timeline of what could have been.
I will say with this Venom they did great at making him and his theme feel like it was from another world and how Spidey had to rely on his roar to detect where Eddie was at since him and Sandman weren't holding back anymore

Maybe the meteor works as a cooler? Even if it's extremely hot on the outside, the drinks (in this case the symbiote) remain ice-cold

I do like venoms design I have always like the idea of venom have noticeable sharp claws but I wished he was a little bit bulked out and a bit more taller but overall venom is pretty cool

That was not his uncles murderer in ultimate Spider-Man…. It was literally just some goon with a similar goatee as the guy that killed uncle Ben… so it reminded Peter of the killer, as the goatee guy he was chasing just murdered a kids parents beforehand.

More and more time passed and with the Harry is Venom angle in Spider Man 2, the more i wished they had a compromise of some kind with having Venom but Harry is the host.
Younger me wouldn't have liked it but I think over time it's the best alternate as it saves time on character intros or just having hem disappear like Eddie or Harry even in the film.
