Hitman: Agent 47 is the new movie adaptation of the stealth-and-cover video game...and you all know how much I love movies based on video games! Here we're dissecting some of the movie details, specifically the ultra futuristic armor that John Smith sports to try to take down Agent 47. We'll be looking at the latest in high-tech armor and figuring out whether it's actually possible to create bullet-proof skin.
When we came up with the idea for this Film Theory, Fox said they'd like to sponsor us! A big thanks to them for their support in making this video happen and letting us take a sneak peek at the film to make sure we got our facts straight!

thesuicidefox yeah, I'd rather have armor over my skin. you know, where I don't feel pain.
Javier Beltran you would still feel pain on impact. Although i'm not sure how big the difference in pain would be, but i'm pretty sure it wont be significant as you skin probably wasn't reducing much of the damage from a bullet shot anyway.
Joshua Lee idk, never seen the shit. If it distributes the force then I don't think it'd be that painful. But then again it could act like a trampoline. Again I've done zero research.
***** makes sense.
Joshua Lee
To get through to the sub-dermal armor, it actually needs to GO THROUGH your epidermis. :/

What about the kinetic energy though, a bullet could hit the skin armor and be similar to hitting a bone due to it being inside your body meaning whatever stretch or shake from the armor would be smeared directly against your insides and probably cause internal damage even if the armor wasn’t exactly broke, like using a mace on steel knight armor
The metal will make it so the kinetic energy is dispersed across the body and not a singular point
@@olp3850 yes but that doesn't mean it's completely dispersed. You'd still break a couple if not a lot of bones since there's no padding to slow the bullet down. The only thing slowing the bullet down is your flesh and bones.
@@cptclonks7279 the graphene stops the bullets by stretching, it absorbs the force through elastic deformation. you wouldn't break bones so much as burn up from friction.
Before you guys start taking out your 50 cal sniper rifles and shooting each other in the face because you have subdermal graphine armor, you also have to realize that shit's going to block the bullets, but not the force.
So yeah, you might not get penetrated by a hot metal object, but you're getting decked in the face at a max of 60,000 psi, and while even graphene could stop a huge amount of that pressure, it's still going to feel like you're getting hit by a two inch truck.
What if a graphene coated bullet hit graphene armor!?!?

“Go to the movies then come back”
4 years later (from when this vid came out) in 2020: What’s a movie theater?
Yo true. Netflix is gonna be rich
Me: Watches video about bullet proof skin.
Also me: Gets ad about Body Armor
Here's my problem with sub-dermal armour: How is the skin even still alive? How is it getting blood? In that movie, when you show the knife snapping, why aren't his clothes getting cut along with the skin, only to be stopped by the armour?
To get blood into the skin (and to allow for sweating and such) there would have to be weak points in the armour. So, sure, he could have it across his chest, but that skin would surely be dying and he could be shot or stabbed elsewhere...
Wanderer Eris Good point there. Unless blood veins can slip through, that shit must be uncomfortable as hell.
+Wanderer Eris Clearly his body is simply teleporting the necessary oxygen and nutrients past the armor. Duh.
Wanderer Eris
NEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEERD!!!
Nisling DohnKiwi I try :D
Wanderer Eris It's a video game movie. The writers didn't think any of this through.
When John Smith gets stabbed you'd think the his shirt would get ripped. NOPE.
He could also be wearing stab proof blazers and shirts which do exist and are on public markets.
Yeah, now that I think about it
but he still has skin over the under armor so the skin would still get cut and bleed
Not really. If you put clothes againts a hard unstabbable wall, it will only slightly rip open if you rub against it. If the knife cant even get trough the skin, it wont destroy the suit
If your going to dress fly as fuck you might as well get the strong shit
Kind of reminds me of John Wicks suit armour from John Wick 2. "Zero penetration however quite painful I'm afraid".
3:38 oh hello rarity didn't expect to see you in this channel
wouldn't John Smith still feel the pain? The armor is under his skin, so he would still feel a bullet penetrate his skin.
John smith's genetically enhanced like agent 47. These guys can resist serious pain.
They remove the part of the brain that causes pain

Theoretically, Titanium COULD work. But it would be a pretty complex web of tiny connected fiberous bit and need to be rigged to muscle and bone in such a way that it spread the impact across the body instead of isolated regions.
Well... No. Titanium is, while very light, is still too heavy, and also, while stronger than ordinary steel, its not really strong enough
GlaciusTS To be honest, I thought John Smith had liquid silicon armor. It's a liquid armor with slightly charged silicon dissolved in it. Upon any kinetic impact would result in the charged silicon to displace a little and attract each other to the point of the impact creating a bullet proof wall. Being implemented in light clothes like business suits.

Graphene is ridiculously conductive... which makes it perfect for being a subdermal skin layer in a thunderstorm. Sure, electricity will be drawn to you, but the electricity will just conduct THROUGH the graphene instead of your body (as long as there's enough to draw a significant amount of the current)
Sort of like how you're told to hide in a car during a thunderstorm. The car might attract lightning - but it just travels through the metal around the car to the ground.
Likewise, if you truly had graphene beneath your skin (all of your skin) the lightning would hit your head, travel through the graphene around you, and then come out your toes into the ground, with you unharmed.
Is that also just a theory or could it really be proven? (if anyone would actually have graphene put under their skin)
Not proven, persay, but the principles are scientifically proven. In reality you'd need to test and make sure the graphene was think enough to carry the massive current of a lightning bolt enough that your body would go unharmed. If it was too thin, you'd still be toast.
Would it be possible to have it thick enough to carry the current or would it be too thick to even have under skin?
That actually wouldn't happen. Sure it's highly conductive, but it's hot.
*VERY **_VERY_** HOT.*
You would die, not from the shock, but from the temperature of the air surrounding the bolt.
By the way, lighning is 30,000 Kelvin.

Plus, humans regenerate skin, so eventually, all of the skin would fall off, causing the armor to be shown, then eventually pop.
+Dudebro Gaming That would only happen if the armor was under just the dead skin cells that are currently on the surface. I assume this armor would be behind the living, regenerating layer, which means that new skin should still grow on the outside of the armor. He would need openings for blood flow and such to get to the living cells on the outside of the armor for that to work, though, or it would just die off..

Sadly, as he is wearing it under his skin the bullet would still hit the skin, ripping through it until it reached the graphene armor. It would be immensely better and more protective to wear it like a morph suit, you (assumably) wouldn't need eye holes as it is so thin and I'm guessing it is breathable because of its thickness. Because of the way it stops bullets you would probably still get bruised but you would (almost definitely but not certainly) not die. @Jake Render, it's too thin to see, so if I put it on you would see right through it. Someone stealing it is a small matter that isn't a big issue as long as you can find a way to protect it when it's not being worn. You could wear a suit underneath the graphene for insulation, or even some rubber underneath it to protect from any electrical shocks from its super-conductive properties.

Hey MatPat! Remember that video you made that said Diamond Armour sucks?? Yah, good times!
+MyPod 1 You mean the fact that it could break diamond armor when you hit it at certain angles? Those where good times also
Epicvampire800 Well this is *FILM* Theory, not *GAME* Theory. Best to play to your audience. (I was expecting one too, but you'll notice the references he makes in these are mostly film-based over game-based.)
If Graphene is super flexible the bullet may not pierce the skin but it will still leave very severe contusions (bruises) and the high probability of internal organ rupture. If you have seen a person who has been shot while wearing kevlar they are not 100% unharmed.
The impact is the one damaging you. If you shoot a person wearing kevlar you are bruising him because it dosent take 100% of the impact. With graphite however....
Adrian Ftw With graphite he is wearing pencil lead lol. Graphene is the wonder material.
Nathan Hayes he way scientists get graphene is I kid you not to stick sellotape to graphite and pull it off
So, the way I see it, hydrostatic shock would still cause some form of internal damage given that the video states, "Graphene will bend, but won't break". Hence the graphene would carry the energy into the body (granted, at a much, MUCH smaller amount) but I would imagine the water in your cells would still carry the energy over and, with enough bullets or with big enough bullets (say, going from .45 ACP rounds in Agent 47's Silverballers to a .308 round rifle round)m I'd imagine internal organ rupturing would still be possible.
Plus, the graphene bends. Meaning it would still be pushed into your body from the bullet impact which I'd imagine would be horrifically painful.
Anyone smart know if that's correct or if I'm just talking out of my ass? :P
I love how I am rewatching this halfway through my mechanical engineering degree and realizing all of the technical mistakes that he made talking about tensile strength and shear strength as well as a lot of the chemical specifications of Kevlar and graphene.
Ah yes, the movies....something I vaguely remember from before the Plague times
Even if it was bullet proof, he would still be seriously injured. The material would need to spread the force of the bullet impact over a very large area in order for him to not have internal bleeding/bones breaking. If you get shot in the chest by a shotgun using buckshot and you are wearing some serious Kevlar, you are still going to have some insane bruises. If he were to get shot in the head, the force could probably indent his skull and kill him. Just because the material is bullet proof doesn't mean that you are not taking the full force of the bullet.
+Daniel Havlat The tests on graphene that the video mentions says that graphene spreads out the force of bullets to stop them. So as far as your "the material would need to spread the force of the bullet impact..." line goes, it does do exactly that.
+LegendofSleek Yes, but on what scale? If the spread is minimal it can mess you up pretty good, especially with higher caliber or heavier bullets. Nearly everything spreads the impact of a bullet, while some do it vastly better than others.
+Daniel Havlat it does i think it spreads the energy over the whole outer layer of his body
not exactly, shotgun "shot" is a bad example, the energy IS significant, but spread over a large area. Bullets condense the "energy dump" into a smaller area.
and serious armor, such as bomb disposal types, would straight laugh at buckshot. Like trying to kill someone by angrily throwing skittles at them. Slugs on the other hand, would at least knock them on their ass. Armor being heavy as fuck, and the energy transfer would unbalance them, if not breaking through
So... Hitman:Agent 47 is Minecraft??
Yep. But it's a few years in the future.
Ahhhh classic film theory. How i miss u
I like how even if he has subdermal body armor he would still get cuts on his skin and clothes and his eyes and mouth being able to be hit.
I'd love to have that kind of armor .
But what would happen if you need to have an operation?
same here
same like, get punched, break the guy's hand. conclusion=awesome!
Yah, and I struggle with my brother punching me so, this would be like the holy grale of ideas
+Ya WOT M8 Rubber Suit? Rubber Socks?
I need that for when I go to school. Too many school shootings
+Johiah plays games I went to private school. Didn't have that problem.
Home school for the win. (See? I don't need friends!)
you're actually well over 30 times more likely to die in an alcohol related car accident where you weren't even drinking.... just saying
come to Australia then. don't go to school in the US lol
+Johiah plays games That's dark man....
Video idea: why do things break more easily when it has a tear in it (and no not teared completely)
These old vids are wild
MatPat: "Do you remember High School science?"
Me: "I will when I go to high school.... In four years..."
***** I'm in 6th grade, so I guess three years.
Well, that makes sense.
your in intermediate school
+HOBO BRO same over here in Britain.
+Elisa Mackey in four years I'll be in High School as well
They should coat space ships with graphene.
TheVeryShyguy nah, when matpat was talking about conductivity in the article it said graphene was hear conductive, now I'm no rocket scientist put if I'm right doesn't that mean on re-entering the atmosphere the heat would be more dangerous due to it lingering, meaning that the whole ship would explode? Also electronic conductivity could interfere with the ships electricity
TheVeryShyguy people would still die because if the space ship goes from 10000mph to 0 in a couple of seconds your face is going to smash into the internal walls at about 3000mph that will kill
2 biggest problems with graphene
It's hard to make large quantities
It is also hard to control
Yhea, just pay for it.
shadowplayer8 well the counductivity would help because it would divert the electricity and not let it get inside the rocket
Pls do a episode on the hitman games
Its 2020 and I remember when this came out
In the movie they say titanium
Edit: I will never write Comments before looking video till end 🤦♂️
i always watch the whole video before commenting, if i dont watch it all, i dont comment
Edit:same
@@Switz14 😂
I have a bad habit of commenting before the end too and end up getting proven wrong
@@jennyzhao9271 I think I'm related to you 😂😂😂
I've watched this video so many times and now this video saved me with understanding Graphene in a simple way for a physics assessment task. Thank you so much for making real world science and math fun matpat
I don't think the material used is Graphene, it does not have a 3D structure as far as I know.
I'd recommend that you double check that info, I guess. But, it it's really accurate and I'm wrong, then...okay?
Also remember your organic chemistry
Graphene armour would be handy, if often find injuries that I don't remember getting, this would save me some money on treating random injuries, since I get injured with subdermal graphene, then it would mean something insane happened.
I watched the movie a day before this came out. I remember because it was my birthday
I learn more from this channel than I do from any of my teachers lol
HARD PING I can relate because it’s true
HARD PING that’s what I just said wile watching it 😂
HARD PING Get better teachers then.
You sound just like a very cliché dad
I think I would just wear the Graphene outside my body.
marty slackjaw yeah true
marty slackjaw
Yeah but then you probably couldn't put it on your face and then if you were captured they would rip it off under your skin its pretty hard to pull out
Sorry meant that under your skin it's hard to take off DURP
Angelic Zombies but what if like he said its very electric conducted and you went into a thunderstorm? I would personally take a skintight suit than one inside your skin
watching this in 2022 is a trip
If nano cellulose is clear when thin, then how do you know that he's just not wearing it over his skin.
if hes wearing it all over his body he wouldnt be able to breath and the sweat would be disgusting af too
Is still would react to his skin. It just does not work at all
Because they say it's "Subdermal" which means under the skin.
Because the bullets brake the skin
