    Thank you so much for taking the time and energy to make this review. There's a fine line between something that's going to work in theory vs practicality and most car reviews from dealerships and paid sponsors of course point out all the great features that a vehicle possesses (in theory). As I was reading through some of the comments on here, I couldn't help but wonder if these people understand your intent of the video. Thank you again for making this video as it helps me out in deciding whether or not to upgrade to a new vehicle.

      @@Myksgarage and Bob Hong, you got it right. The purpose of this video isn't to whine or gripe (like some other comments think it is), but is instead EXACTLY what I was looking for. We were looking into buying a used 2018 or 2019 Odyssey Elite because of the ventilated seats, but the practicality of a lot of the changes Myk pointed out are well-heard. Greatly appreciate the honest video! I too agree wireless charging is pretty useless as I don't know anyone who is rich enough to not have a case on their phone and risk it breaking all the time. I'm tall, and will sit in the back to play with kids sometimes and don't want the A/C vent just turning my knee into an icicle. Also agreed the vacuum isn't going to work. It works for spilling a giant pile of crackers/crumbs, but you're not going to get your interior "clean" with this housed vac.

    We upgraded our 2012 Odyssey with the 2020. We're super happy with it! We decided to go with the EX-L w/Navigation instead of the Elite or Touring, just adding preferred upgrades.... for some of the reasons you mentioned. We still spent 46k after it was all said and done, but got what we wanted. Basically, we have everything the Elite has minus (the vacuum, cabin camera, phone charger pad, and the 19in wheels) We also added some Trem features that look really nice! I agree with you about the Auto start/stop feature... not necessary. I always turn it off, too. Some of the other stuff you mentioned like (back vents, power adapters, gas cap/door issue, cruse control, and auto wiper) doesn't bother us. Thank you for taking the time to do this video.

    • @aeiplanner
      @aeiplanner Před 4 lety +1

      The reason why it functions this way is because Honda is trying to save you and expense down the road. By using the lock, they shut off the actual relay that controls the lock so that when kids continue playing with the switches it doesn't burn the relay forcing you to spend $$$ on disassembly of the door panel and relay replacement. I do agree that it makes no sense that they'd lock out the front passenger as well though.

    • @Pofucci
      @Pofucci Před 4 lety +1

      @@aeiplanner Your explanation does indeed make sense. I don't know how VW does it, but I also drive a Golf and the same rear window locking feature doesn't cut off the driver's control over the rear windows. It's not a major hassle, but it's one of the little things that undermines the Honda experience for me. I could also talk about the counter-intuitive and very unfriendly entertainment system in all 3 Odysseys I've owned so far (2015 being the worst), but that's a discussion for another post!

    Thank you for the nicely done video!
    My 2 cents:
    Honda vac is for picking up cereal and crumbs, not so good for sucking sands from the carpets. Good for keeping messcallation at bay on long road trips.
    Cabin watch is ok but it would be better if it didn't freeze up in hot weather.
    Lane keep assist really only helps keeps your hands from getting fatigued during long drives because it makes the small corrections for you.
    You didn't mention the intercom, but that keeps the kids entertained: This is the pilot speaking... Next stop, playground!
    The audio system on the elite is nice.
    I wish it had a larger fuel and window washer fluid tanks.
    Auto stop does suck but there's a way to trick the computer into disabling it. Has something to do with opening the hood while the car is running. Search the forums.
    The seats are friggin heavy and I'm a 200lb gorilla.

      my brother is a manager of a Acura dealership and every year they buy an top of line Odyssey as shuttle van, he gets a chance to use them in weekend, i drive them when he comes to visit me, i didn’t like the handling of 2015 generation as they make me feel like a lot of body roll, i went back and got a used 2008 back when my 2002 trainy gave up.
      This new one more or less similar to 2008 gen, my brother doesn’t like the new one for some reason. i like the inside of both.
      For sure they use much less gas than 2008 gen.

    I also have a 2014 Odyssey LX and I love it. The only recent issue that happen to it was a driver side wheel bearing needed to be replace on Dec 2019 and since I like messing with cars I did it myself and save myself about $120 and gain the knowledge of replacing wheel bearing which is easy in the 2014 and recent odysseys since you just have to buy a wheel bearing assembly and it is attach by 4 big bolt. However, you also need the big Socket for the axle nut and a Ball joint separator.
    I always wonder if getting all those extra features were worth it. Thank you for giving your opinion on them. I guess I don't have to wonder anymore about them anymore.
    I may end up selling the 2014 Odyssey to get a Tesla Truck, since we still have a corolla as backup.

    You can make the Cruise control work like a regular cruise control, all you do is without having the cruise set, press and hold the gap adjustment button, you should here a long beep and where the gap adjustment usually shows up on the center screen will show cruise control in a little gray box, the adaptive spacing will be disabled but the emergency braking will still be active, you've probably already figured this out with it being several months later but thought I'd try to help you anyway.

    Good review. It actually makes me glad we didn't splurge like we really wanted to. We went from a Toyota rav4 to a 2018 odyssey EX, so in that sense of upgrade, I'm totally happy with it. I really wanted the leather seats and rear entertainment, but at the additional cost of $7,000, it just wasn't in our budget. Consider the EX if any of you out there are just looking to upgrade to a bigger car with good safety features (Honda Sensing is standard on all trims) 🙂

    We have a 2020 EX. Love the van, rides like a dream. But we disabled the radar cruise control, lane centering and auto start stop immediately. Also, my old Elantra GT seemed to be smarter designed. I could stand under the hatch on my GT. Odyssey hits me in the chin. Also, I could lock the windows and still control them from the drivers seat. Odyssey locks everyone. Also playing music from a USB stick, I have yet to find a vehicle that does that as well as my old Elantra. It was immediate. The Odyssey initializes for minutes. I'm out of the neighborhood before the thing starts playing (now I use the internal storage, which works). Lastly, would it have killed Honda to fit a permanent trip odometer on the instrument panel? And a feature from Nissan I would have liked to see, cruise control shows what speed it is set to. If you brake, it just grays out the number so you know what speed it'll go to if you hit resume. Brilliant feature. Odyssey just draws a box around cruise control. Overall a good van, unrivaled for rear facing car seats and still accessing the third row. Wonderful ride, smooth as silk. Just wish they'd hire a few folks to focus on everyday usability.

We came from a gas guzzling monster of a Grand Caravan, so super happy! The Vac is really cheap, we don't use it either.
    Honda watch is a waste of money -
    I really wish they had spent the money on giving us a Heads up display instead.
    I like the cruise control actually, I set it with the lane keep assist on and it seems to reduce the stress of long trips.
    I used to own a 2007 Honda Odyssey, this drives amazing compared to that model year. They added the snow driving to this one which doesn't slip as it did in the old one.
    I think the biggest negative of the new one you didn't mention is that the second row seats weigh 70 lbs each. So if you have to take them out for any reason, it's a pain in the back.
