Starting in 1993 to current, Jeep created a new class of SUV buyer. Sure, most can afford the mid $40s of a Laredo or Limited, but there is a large segment of well-heeled buyers that don't care about the luxury nameplate, but will in fact buy fully loaded JGCs because of brand recognition, capability, interior offerings that match the luxury brands, and better overall resale value/insurance costs.
Im all things Mopar, but Jeep has got to get with the times and offer both the 4Xe and Hurricane on the GC. We all love the HEMI, but it is just as thirsty in the GC as it is on the 1000 pound heavier Wagoneer.

My current models are a WK2 2015 Laredo, 2021 Wk 2 trail hawk bad ass off road , 2017 patty riot and a 2018 wrangler sahara. I love each one for different reasons but the trail hawk is my go to. I was debating between Grand Cherokee L and Toyota Grand Highlander. But one thing many reviewer do not count it is: there is dealer markup on Grand Highlander. It is a straightforward markup of $3-7k. With that markup the Grand Highlander becomes less valued actually. And worse yet, I could not find one to test drive. I have to order from factory based on the virtual information available online.
I think the price of high reliability of Toyota has already being baked in.
Jeep is the iconic American SUV. I think we all buy cars solely based on practicality or everyone should get an minivan.

The best buy in the GC-L is the Overland trim with the 5.7L V8. Picked up one a few weeks ago for $56K. The V8 provides plenty of power for a vehicle of this size/weight. I've been averaging around 16mpg in city, 19mpg on the hwy. Fortunately, gas is cheap where I live, currently $2.69 for 89 octane fuel.

Over land is great but I love the trail hawk because I buy jeeps for 4 wheeling, but the Over land is a beast also we have a few in our jeep club.. if you're looking for speed get a track hawk or SRT, you can fit a 6.7 no problem. I'm running a 6.1 in my trail hawk. Looking forward to the hurricane coming out eventually ✌️🦆

Hi Alex. Good review video for 2023-2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee L in the Summit trim. Overall, Jeep did a great job making this grneration vehicle get higher levels of recognition. What they did first was when this fifth generation got released couple years ago, they released the third row L version first due to the fact that lots of Jeep Grand Cherokee fans were asking for a Grand Cherokee offering third row seating. Asking for it since the third generation. Generally speaking, there's no such thing as the perfect vehicle. There are couple things Jeep need to improve on for the Jeep Grand Cherokee L. However, Jeep delivered by offering some features, utility and flexibility that are MIA from the competition either mainstream or luxury brand makers. Five months back in July I was able to purchase the 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee L in the Summit Reserve trim. Mine is nicely equipped with the 5.7 liter HEMI V8 engine. Between this engine and the 3.6 liter Pentastar V6, it's basically a night and day difference. Significant difference in performance especially at the first point of acceleration. Before I made my purchase I test drove the vehicle twice with the V6 and once with the V8. After I test drove the one with the V8 engine, I said to myself there's no way I will get the V6. With the V8 engine 0 to 60mph is 6.2 seconds. I did not test it out yet by brake torquing the engine and did not test it out yet in Sport Mode doing the 0 to 60. In the coming days, I'll do it with those two actions and mention the times I will get in a future posting. As for the Lexus TX, based on some review videos I've seen for it, Lexus borrowed two styling cues and two physical features from the Jeep Grand Cherokee L. The styling cues borrowed are from the interior in the instrument cluster screen. The fuel gauge and temperature gauge is in horizontal bar graph form. Two features they borrowed from the Jeep are the grab handles found on the wheel wells to assist in getting into the third row and secondary power folding third row seat buttons on the wheel wells. As for the Jeep Grand Wagoneer, I hope you'll do a review video that vehicle. That vehicle is the direct competitor for the Cadillac Escalade and Lincoln Navigator. Also a competitor for the Mercedes GLS, BMW X7 and Infiniti QX80, but primarily for the Escalade and Navigator.
OBTW, another reason I had to get the Jeep Grand Cherokee L with the V8 engine is because my old third generation Jeep Grand Cherokee which I still have has a V8 engine as well.

Last comment, as someone who’s parents rent large vehicles when they visit to fit everyone, having tons of time in the Suburban/yukons, Expedition Max and also wagoneer, with the exception that the rental agencies don’t have the Wagoneer L since it’s a relatively new product, I can tell you without a shadow of a doubt none of the other two comes close to the wagoneer in terms of its interior. It’s a fantastic vehicle. However if I was spending my own money, I would go for a suburban because of relatively simple powertrain that doesn’t break the bank when problems arise. Plus I know lots of mechanics remove the cylinder deactivation because of engine failures, anyways I’m ranting now, the wagoneer is the nicest in my estimation even though that is not where I would put my money

Great review! Not that you asked but: I would have liked to see some discussion about the front seats, dash, and infotainment. Screen size notwithstanding, at the price of Summit, you can also add on a passenger screen that is still relatively exclusive in the auto industry that is absent in a number luxury vehicles. Jeep options on high-end sound systems, rear seat infotainment screens, and beyond that, the GC further has massaging seats w/ a multitude of adjustment, etc. It is quite extensive for a mainstream brand.

The Land Rover wasn't always luxury either. It has basically the same off-road capable roots as the Jeep. If it could go luxury, there's no reason Jeep can do the same. I also think the Grand Wagoneer is off to a great start. However, in going luxury it does leave a lot of its loyalist out in the cold unable to afford anything beyond the base trim.
Anyway, in my view, this is what the Grand Wagoneer should have been based on. Instead of its current polarizing design, it could simply have been the bigger brother/version of the already familiar Jeep Grand Cherokee.

Actually looks like 2 year old Grand Cherokee Ls are running 45-47K vs 65,000 MSRP in 2021. Actuary estimates for Highlander show similar depreciation vs actual transaction price. Remember that discounts off MSRP depress ALG and actuary estimates, but vs actual transaction price there's not much difference. Sales and desirability are better predictors of actual resale value and currently BOTH Grand Highlander and GCL are fairly hot right now.

Never mind Toyota’s legendary reputation, just do a quick search of both vehicles and you can see which vehicle has about 50x less inventory than the other, which certainly factors into resale value as well.

How do you determine reliability of a newer vehicle?
Jeep gets a bad wrap, but the one’s complaining are usually the 3rd owner, the thing is 12 years old and has 200,000 miles on it… then it has a problem and it’s “junk”
Another thing to consider is people actually off-road their Jeeps, how reliable would anything be when modified with bigger tires and actually used off pavement?
Yea I’m sure Toyota makes a more durable vehicle.. but the trade off is boring, underwhelming, and often outdated vehicles with high financing rates, no discounts and shit availability…
