    Nice video , I’m living off grid in Greece too.
    Best advice I can give you is to switch to a 48v system and add at least another 10 panels to your array and switch to a 5-10 kw inverter. that way you can run heavy electrical appliances with ease .
    Even if there’s little sunlight we can cook with an induction cooker, turn on an electric oven, kettle, even run a full sized washing machine.
    And if you want even more power you can enlarge your battery bank.
    it makes a huge difference.

      Thanks 🙏 You know, as funny as it sounds, we like to learn to live on less. Not to rely too much on electricity, is a good skill to have 😊

      @@mylifeinrhodes it’s also a nice perspective to look at it , but if you’re already investing in off grid why not invest in a good system that can serve you better and will last for years ;)

    Nice place! 20+ years off grid and I see we use some of the same appliances with a small system That is what I recommend and you are doing it right. Keep up the good work.

      Never! You should check my latest video How much does it cost to live off the grid. There's the reason why. Self-sufficiency, independence 😉

    Thank you for the description in the video. We're looking into solar electricity in Crete. If you do double the solar panels, would that help to have more power? In winter as well? What is the cost of just the off grip power systems?

    • @mylifeinrhodes
      @mylifeinrhodes  Před 4 měsíci

      I'm not an expert, but I'm gonna try to answer your question according to my understanding. Doubling the amount of panels requires a stronger inverter. Also you will not have any power from the panels in the night time and the days are short in the winter. Cloudy as well. You need extra power from your batteries, and they cost about 500€ each. Also batteries don't last for many years. Panels are a relatively cheap investment compared to batteries. The system that we have now, cost us about 6000€. I would suggest you ask for advice from professionals. We use SK Solar. There's also more information about prices and batteries on my newer video: How much does it cost to live off the grid. I hope this helps 😊

    Invest to a small petrol generator for example 1500 watts, for 400 to 500 euros.. 1 month without sun will cost you a couple liters to charge batteries and use your household appliances... Is it cost 100 euros per year? Let say 200, but with more electricity usage..

    • @mylifeinrhodes
      @mylifeinrhodes  Před 3 měsíci +1

      Actually we have one, but it's leaking. I haven't fixed it, because I don't really like it 😂 It smells and keeps terrible noise. Luckily here in Rhodes we always have sun after one cloudy day. We also don't mind not having electricity some days. It's useful to test and live these circumstances, it's a good skill to learn 😊

      @mylifeinrhodes Ok! Have in mind that there is a water boiler burning firewoods.. Also you can collect water from the air humidity or rain from your roof, or using a special net for this purpose that is used to dry places that are close to coast. That advice is because, islands like the one your residence is, have issues with water supply.. Take care of yourselves!

      @@mylifeinrhodes ouch 🤕.
      I wonder if it’s possible to just go off grid without buying a part of the grid!
      We were out in corfu last year and there were abandoned pieces of land and property everywhere, like people had just got up and left never to return. Some places we looked through windows etc as we explored and one place had cooking oil on the window out of date by about 10years.
      I wonder what would happen if we just took up residence there and declared our selves off grid livers. Obviously respecting the property incase the real owners were to ever return
