@@darkassassin1987 I just picked mine up from the post office. This thing is HEAVY and I think it comes in at 120+ pounds. If it gets bent then it's getting hit pretty damn hard.

the fact you guys make these videos is so helpful considering i buy 100% of my parts from you lol

I just bought the DV8 Winch Mount for my 2020 Tacoma TRD 4x4 Sport.
It was well packaged that's for sure, w/them using that expanding foam material for keeping the components in place in the box for shipping, though it was a pain to remove the parts because of it. 😉
I was able to install the winch mount w/o removing the bumper by simply removing the center section only, together w/the grill. You will need to remove those plastic side baffles as well to help in accessing the center section clips. With the grill removed, and the side baffles removed, you can get to the center section clips and undo them.
Installing the oil cooler relocation brackets, my kit came w/no bolts for doing so, so I had to look around house for a couple, including nuts and lock washers.
As for that oil cooler mounting bolt behind the passenger side wheel well, there's no bracket for that one, so it's left hanging.
With the oil cooler relocated, it makes contact w/the A/C condenser behind it, on the passenger side of the condenser. When tightening down the relocation brackets, I tried to keep it away as much as possible from any contact w/the A/C condenser.
I got the winch mounting plate, as well as the two plates for mounting the front face installed. There appears to be just enough mounting treads, though normally you want at least two or three threads shown w/the nut tightened. I wish torque values were noted. I normally like to torque my bolts, especially when it comes to something like this winch mount.
The next thing to see tomorrow, is if I can install my Warn M8000 winch through that bumper center section opening. If not, I may have to remove the bumper after all. We'll see.
Outside of those oil cooler relocation missing bolts, a mounting bracket for the oil cooler mount behind the passenger side front wheel, as well as a concern for the contact of the oil cooler w/the A/C condenser, the kit appears to be well made, including being powder coating. Again, I wish torque values were noted someplace. I like to torque my bolts, especially when it comes to a winch mount.
As for that light mount, some photos show it welded on, while others show it as bolted on. Mine is bolted, but not installed. I plan to keep it off, at least for now.
Finally, Merideth and ExtremeTerrain did a great job at producing this video. It both help me in my decision to buy the DV8 winch mount but was extremely helpful w/it's installation.

      Update:
I finished up installing my winch mount today. Wanted to install my winch, but I was running out of time.
Had an issue w/the winch mount center piece. One of the brackets was slightly bent. It looks like it might have been from the welding.
Got that straightened and finished up installing.
Had to play around a little to get things as straight and aligned as possible.
Also installed the winch roller fairlead, which looks a little odd, being aimed down at an angle.
Hope to get the winch installed next week.
The setup looks great, and once again, I didn't have to remove the bumper to install.

So I removed the bumper and broke a plastic black clip that is connected to the headlight. That’s something to be noted when removing the bumper. But overall the bumper is great! Not much support for the middle of the stock bumper after the install for TRD off-road version. I’ll figure something out. Still impressed with the new 9500 lb Approve winch/bumper combo. I’m stoked and thanks for the vid giving me more confidence.

The winch mounts higher than the Fairlead. This makes the cable rub on the base plate. It also prevents a straight pull. The cable has to go down...rubbing on the base plate...then make about a 30 degree turn against the top fairlead and up to the pull.. I'm considering sending it back.

You make a solid point! You should be able to access it trough the engine bay surprisingly. Might just need a stool to reach down far enough, lol! We haven't tested this but with how much room you have in-between the grille and rad you should be able to reach it.

  • @supergoat06
    @supergoat06 Před 2 lety

do sports not have front bumper absorbers, or was it removed previously with this truck? Main reason im thinking of getting this bumper is due to no cutting, as well as stock trim piece being garbage, ive broke mine twice and now its just a absorber showing where the cover was which annoys me. Also what about the fender adhesive? doest that have to be replaced before putting front bumper back on? Also if not installing a winch, does the cooler not have to be moved back? Id love to put this bumper on and the skid plate, but a aftermarket skid plate not coming with a door for the oil filter like the trd pro seems kind of silly.
