It's definitely a social thing. In the Middle East the beauty standard is more about having curves for women and being strong for men, so we try to keep it healthy but eat food wholeheartedly: lots of protein, fats and carbs, but since we don't eat sugar nearly as much and eat a lot of fruit, the result is much healthier looking. If our society was the same as Korea and had such beauty standards where above 50Kg is considered overweight, we would not eat the same things and most of us would adapt our diet for our body goals. It's socially driven.

For 1, Your genetics do play a factor. But also comes down to how the food is made. Korea is more health conscious whereas the U.S is more about taste than health. McDonalds in Korea tend to taste different than in the U.S.

It’s not about taste. I lived in France, and people prioritize flavor so they can enjoy themselves while eating. But compared to Americans, French people are on average way skinnier. Let’s make it clear, heathy meals are NOT tasteless. When you grew up eating healthy delicious meals/snacks, most junk food tastes awful. It’s just that in America, vegetables, fruits, grains and meat have no taste while they do in other places around the world. When I moved from America to France as a kid, I was shocked by the flavor. I used be a picky eater in America, but in France i wasn’t. Americans also don’t have a culture of spices and/or herbes, so they don’t know know how to season their tasteless food. They depend on processed food in order to compensate the lack of taste in healthy food.

A few reasons, none of which have anything to do with "discipline" or "portion control". Yes the average Korean is more physically active during the day. In addition, high fructose corn syrup doesn't exist in every single thing in Korea like it does in certain other countries. The staple Korean diet does not consist of highly processed foods like it does in western countries. You don't have to go far out of your way in Korea to find a relatively nutritious meal, while in Western countries you are bombarded with bad dietary choices and encouraged to make them your staples. It's really all about what you have easy access to and what the societal norms have become. The flip side of the coin is Korea's national tobacco addiction and the extremely cheap cigarettes available, the effects of which are far greater per capita than your average Western country

One of the problems is what Americans think of as healthy eating. They think they eat a salad and they are eating healthy, but a salad is supposed to be just vegetables with a little dressing. And if you aren't eating the salad as your meal, it should be about a little bigger than the size of your fist. But in America, they add all sorts of stuff and the size is huge that some salads can have up to 1700 calories. A typical salad with a meal should be about 200 calories or less, or if eating it as a meal, about 500-700 calories. On top of that, instead of that just being the meal, they eat something else with it. An example of the mindset is an old roommate would eat something like an enitre cake for dessert and then say he's eating healthy because he had like 1000 calories worth of fruit with it. One fruit typically is about 150 calories. And the portions Americans eat are just too much. For example, many American people order Chinese and they finish off the entire dish as their meal. Usually, each order of a dish from a Chinese restaurant is 1500 calories and then add the calories from the appetizers and the soup and the rice. That one order should last you two meals, not to be eating for one meal. Plus Americans drink a lot of calories. Also, coffee, which is supposed to be healthy when drunk as black is usually flavored to add a ton of calories. A single cup of coffee is around 50-100 calories, but if you go to Starbucks and have one of those prepared drinks, each drink alone is around 1000-1200 calories.

I’m sorry, but i won’t accept the potato slander 😤. Potatoes are very healthy and very nutritious. It’s just when fried, like any food, it becomes unhealthy. It’s how you cook it that matters. Boiled, jacked, oven, air fry, steamed is the best way to eat potatoes. I’m obsessed with potatoes, I eat a lot but I do not gain weight. If I ever noticed that I gained weight, it’s because I ate a lot of greasy, sugary and/or salty meals/snacks during the last few weeks. It’s not because of potatoes.
Also oven cooked meals are healthy. It’s just when you add cheese or whatever to the mix, then it becomes unhealthy. Like I’m sincerely shocked she considered food cooked in the oven as unhealthy. I grew up considering oven cooked meals is an healthy alternative to frying. My family is very health conscious, and we cook A LOT of your meals in the oven.
Bread is not unhealthy. Depending on the bread, it can lack nutrition, but it does not cause weight gain or health issues unless you have gluten intolerance. Of course if you buy processed bread with a lot of sugar and salt (which is every American supermarket bread), then yes it’s unhealthy. BUT essentially, bread is not bad for your health. There’s a reason why many cultures around the world have been eating bread for thousands of years.

Remember when they reclassified American bread as a pastry because they added so much sugar that it was closer to cake? 😂 Their desserts don't deserve to be called "bread" just to make people feel better about eating them.
And the same with potatoes! Just don't slather them in oil and they are very low calorie.
Maybe American ovens don't have a convection setting (fans circulating the air)? Because air fryers are just miniature convection ovens and her comment made it seem like it was some new method of baking. It's pretty standard in European kitchens and we use it regularly to make food more crispy without adding oil.

Helen tells jane: "If all the world hated you, and believed you wicked, while your own conscience approved you, and absolved you from guilt, you would not be without friends."
although, jane knows she should think well of herself, but it's simply not enough for her. if others dont love jane, she would rather be dead, than alive. Helen tells jane that jane thinks too much of human beings' love and calls her impulsive. what if jane could just love herself before wanting the world's love? personally id say loving God and yourself will work out just fine, speaking from experience, and i wish you luck

This video was pretty good tbh. It boils down to 3 things: diet, social pressure, and transportation. Americans in general eat a lot more processed food, the extreme social pressure to be thin is just not there in the same way that it is in Korea, and the fact that most people have to drive everywhere instead of being able to walk and use public transportation.
The last one is really all about geography though. Korean cities and smaller towns are completely different from American ones. Because Korea is a lot smaller than America and also has a lot of low mountains taking up that space, each city is set up to be convenient to get around in. There aren't many individual family homes or cars, people live in high rise buildings to save space, and everything you need is just generally packed into a smaller space. Which makes it easier to get to on foot and makes having public transportation make more sense. Generally speaking everything in America is much more spread out because we have the space for that. A huge chunk of the population lives in a family house vs. an apartment, and stores/schools/workplaces are usually further away from neighborhoods than what is practical for walking, so we drive everywhere. In most places public transportation is not cost effective for the city, nor is it efficient because everything is so spread out.

The reason fryers are bad isn't because of the grease per se, but because fats/grease becomes denaturated(becomes fake, unnatural) upon frying. When you eat it, your body doesn't know how to process fake fat/grease and simply stores it for later because of how much energy and time it will take to process it. So not only is that fat stored right away, you become hungry faster because the fat calories aren't used and only the carbs and proteins are. It's a double whammy. Eating natural fats like olive oil(not fried), meat fat etc are actually used easier, so people who eat baked or grilled steak, oiled salads, etc tend to be skinnier because even eating fat, the body process it instead of storing, and you're hungry less. Fried foods also have carcinogens.

But, do I drive? - No. I take the bus, walk and bike. I would love to easily be able to go across the country on a train. That would be awesome.

And genetics can change/adapt over time, so if 2 generations in a row were obese, the ones to come will be too and will also have increased chances of diseases that come with it. If your family is generally healthy/fit and you grew up with a healthy lifestyle, you’ll most likely stick to it. Whether raised on burgers or chicken breast, it sticks. We have to seek out the knowledge to do better as adults, but if the obese family is also poor and uneducated, there’s a slim chance they’ll break the cycle. I know so many adults that don’t eat vegetables and live on fast food because of that. I grew up on healthy food, but developed a fast food habit due to life and becoming both busy and exhausted due to chronic pain illness. No one else in my family has my issue either, so I’m a fluke. But one day I just decided to go “back to basics”. A protein, carb, and 2 veggies at lunch and dinner. Limit sugary breakfast to the weekends or special occasions. I’ve always loved veggies, but just didn’t make them part of my meals. I’m also a plain Jane so I don’t even need them seasoned, steamed is enough. So I started buying a bag each of asparagus, Brussels sprouts, and broccoli to keep in the freezer and add variety by getting whatever I have a taste for that’s in season. Air fryer helps a lot too since it’s simple to prepare salmon, chicken thighs, even steak. Then some rice in the instant pot or garlic bread. Keep it real, too. I don’t eat fake butter or cheese. Real cheddar, milk, no margarine. Cook with avocado oil and use good olive oils in low/no heat foods and marinades. All of this took time to get back into my routine, but was easier for me because I grew up eating well. We all need to try to go back to the lifestyle that makes us feel well and supports our needs. Whether vegetarian, vegan, lion diet, keto, whatever. Try growing things on your own to appreciate the processes required to get good nutrition and feel more connected in life.
Long read, but it was therapeutic to write and I realize how far I’ve really come.

I want to teach a new korean word for her: 샐러드
If you ask a doctor or use any BMI measurement she is overweight by a good margin. She eats too much. the end tldr.
Too skinny is unhealthy too fat is unhealthy. shes too big.

Didn’t know you were her doctor.
Do you typically diagnose all your patients in CZcams comment sections?
She is overweight, yes, but she is not obese. You don’t know if she’s unhealthy just by looking at her. You know nothing about her health and you don’t actually care about it or anyone’s health at all, you just enjoy insulting people. Don’t pretend like it’s anything more than that.
Here’s a word you should learn: 예의
