  • In this video I show you how I simulate the airbag fault by simulating the airbag. When there is a fault on any airbag, we can not simply test the airbag itself, we have to go for testing the wiring one by one, and at last, we might be unsure between the airbag control unit or airbag itself. This video shows how we can simulate the airbag to make sure if it is faulty or not. I did this diagnostics in the driver airbag, but it is applicable to all airbags and seat belt pretensioners.

    You can also use a digital volt meter on the airbag itself, and measure the ohm reading. As you saw in your scan tool, you should get about 2.8 ohms (this is for every steering wheel airbag in all manufacturers). You will need to cut a small tip off a wd40 red spray nozzle and slide it down one of the post as to separate a contact point down at the bottom of the connect on the airbag, otherwise you will not get a correct reading.

    • @AutomotiveDiagnosis
      @AutomotiveDiagnosis  Před 26 dny

      Even if you can get the resistance reading on the scanner, you should never check the airbag resistance with a multimeter as it could deploy the airbag. I’ve seen some cases of airbag deployment while checking it with multimeter. The whole point of using a dummy resistor is to avoid testing the airbag with a multimeter.

    • @TheMoonDr
      @TheMoonDr Před 26 dny

      @AutomotiveDiagnosis I have never heard of an airbag being deployed using a DVM ever...in fact it's impossible...if you notice on the steering wheel airbags there is 2 connections (4 contact points) You would have to supply 12v to 2 out of the 4 pins (1 on each connector) to deploy said airbag. You can send in airbags to have them refurbished, and they use a digital volt meter to do this simple yet effective test to see if indeed the airbag is at fault and if so proceed with the work. I have done this many of times myself (checking the ohms reading) and never had one blow up, in fact I learned this very tip from the professionals who indeed refurbished them...

    Hello, I like your lesson and I'm learning alot from it. I have a few questions. If the car was recorded being in an accident and airbag is at fault according to your test (high ohms), is it common for airbags to fail electrically even though not physically being deployed? I was hoping you would've shown Driver AB stage #1 resistance to compare with the stage #2 you found. I did see Driver AB module resistance just below but not sure if its the same as stage #1 as you mentioned. I understand the use of a 2ohm resistor for quick diagnosis but can both airbag plugs harnesses be swapped on airbag #2 for #1, #1 for #2 to see if high resistance moves in the scanner and maybe could rule out or reveal loose connections?

    • @AutomotiveDiagnosis
      @AutomotiveDiagnosis  Před 7 měsíci

      Hi there, thanks for your comment and very nice questions. Yes, it’s common to have a faulty airbag even if it’s not deployed, that’s why we have to simulate it. Swapping the connectors is a good idea to find out the faulty point, but on many airbags we only have one stage which makes it impossible to swap the connectors, therefore we still need the simulation. On this car I had a parameter on Scan tool for other stage as well, so it’s not a bad idea to read the live data before any sort of test.

    Great video. I own a 2012 Nissan NV3500 passenger van. I am converting it to a camper van. The van has rear airbags. I would like to remove them because I want to install overhead cabinets. Can I use an airbag simulator after I remove the rear airbags to keep the dash light off and use my front airbags?

    • @AutomotiveDiagnosis
      @AutomotiveDiagnosis  Před 3 měsíci +1

      Hi there. Yes it’s possible. But as you said, only for simulating the airbag when you remove the seats or change the application.

      Hi there. It’s really based on the types of cars that you will be working on. But if you will work on multiple vehicles, one of the best scanners is Launch.

    Hello, I replaced the resistor, but airbag light still on! How can i reset it ?

    • @AutomotiveDiagnosis
      @AutomotiveDiagnosis  Před 4 měsíci +1

      This resistor is only diagnosing airbag. So, first of all you need to make sure that you have a fault code for that airbag you are working on. After that inserting the resistor into the connector, you need to erase the code with a scan tool, if code comes back, you have a fault on wiring or airbag control unit.
