They toured about 10 years ago with: Brian Wilson, David Marks, Mike Love, Bruce Johnston, Al Jardine using Brian's backing band and they were amazing!! Caryl and Dennis did cameos with the help of technology.
Hat really was an incredible show! I saw it in their home territory, southern California, at the Hollywood Bowl, for their 50th. I was hoping they would regroup for the same tour last year. All the same people from that tour are still around. Sadly, it didn't happen. But their 50th tour (and really good album at the same time) were incredible!

I recognize that drummer from a Seattle bar band called Herding Cats! He's great singing covers and does kind of a Keith Moon bit flipping his sticks around. I guess even Mike gets nostalgic for the chaos of Dennis once in a while.

They were in my town this week, and that drummer SAVED the show! He was huge hit with the audience. I’ve loved and seen The Beach Boys, in all their various iterations, more times than I could count. But the decline in this band from just two years ago is very obvious, and very sad.
Fortunately Bruce seems fine, but he won’t be “front” man. Mike today is vastly changed from the Mike I last saw. I was mostly just sad after seeing them.
Meanwhile, AL Jardine is still touring and he does a great show.
You completely ignored Bruce Johnston, who although technically not an original member, joined them in 1965 and remains a vital part of the touring group to this day. Jon Bolton is the drummer who joined the group earlier this year as well as guitarist John Wedemeyer. I saw them in August of this year. Having seen them many times over the years, I was impressed in particular with the high energy of the band and the stellar song selection, playing 40 songs this night. Mike still sounds good and commands the stage as he always has. It's too bad the crowd at your show was not standing up. They certainly were at my show. I had 3rd row and loved every minute of it. It was honestly the best show of theirs I have attended and I hope Mike is around for years to come and I get to see them again. Worth every dime and then some!
I feel like it’s worth going to see for Mike Love and Bruce Johnston. Like him or not Mike Love is an important part of The Beach Boys history, he sings lead on some of their most iconic songs and wrote the lyrics to many more. I think it’s worth going just to see him before he’s gone.
On the other hand Mike Love is kind of an asshole so I understand the opposition to him. Obviously I’d rather see Brian Wilson and Al Jardine but still being able to say “I’ve seen a Beach Boy in person” is a huge honor.
As a lighting tech in the live event entertainment industry I did a show for this line-up of the Beach Boys for a corporate event in a hotel ballroom a few years back. Obviously, it was not the authentic Beach Boys so I didn't know what to expect other than hearing a bunch of classic BB tunes. I'd say the show was okay, not great. But it was a corporate event, they played a massive amount of songs, sometimes in the form of medleys and I got paid to see it as I ran spotlight. So no complaints here.

We were there loved the outdoor arena ( not. Hot)…. Loved the fun crowd and the songs everyone knows. Happy to be around fun people with all the negative in this world now…up beat songs .. I know not many original members left .. but still great
Saw Brian Wilson .. a few years ago and he was not with it.. wheelchaired out….shouldn’t of been performing…

I just saw them. I’m pretty convinced they were using backing tracks. Some of what they were doing did not sound like live music. Maybe I’m wrong, but I wasn’t overly impressed.
The Beach Boys and The Four Seasons are my all-time favorite American groups. They are 2 of the few American artists that survived the 1964 British Invasion and competed with The Beatles. Like Mike Love of The Beach Boys, Frankie Valli of The Four Seasons is also still performing in concert. In fact, Frankie signed a deal for a residency at The Westgate in Las Vegas for 2024. It's great that both Mike Love and Frankie Valli are continuing to perform and celebrate their great music catalogs with their fans. It doesn't matter to me that neither one sounds as good as they did during their prime. At their age, you wouldn't expect them to. Their real fans are just grateful that they're still with us. So many great songs and memories. It's still a fun and enjoyable experience to go see them live.
Hey! Nice to hear you had a good time. I don’t usually comment on reviews and things, but why not! I feel like talking about The Beach Boys.
First I wanna start off with comments/clarification/corrections on the video itself:
- There’s actually 5 surviving members of the band. David Marks (original member) and Bruce Johnston (longtime member) were the 2 you didn’t mention.
- Bruce Johnston has been on tour with Mike since the original lineup broke up in 1998, so you saw him at this concert as well. He should have sang lead on songs like “Surfer Girl” and “Do You Wanna Dance”.
- You mention seeing Al Jardine with the band 9 years ago. You’re likely referring to original Beach Boy David Marks, who toured and played lead guitar with Mike off-and-on for a few years. He’s always fantastic.
- I believe you saw them at a casino venue, which does (unfortunately) change the experience. You often get shorter setlists (more hits, less rarities), and higher ticket prices. I hope those didn’t bother you too much.
- The drummer is Jon Bolton. A real highlight of those shows.
My general comments now:
- I’ve seen this band many times, and it’s always a great show. Mike love is 82, Bruce Johnston is 81, and they’re still rocking. Of course, it’s obviously different from seeing the original Beach Boys, but life goes on, and there’s no denying that they put on one hell of a show.
- As a newer generation fan of the band, never having the chance to see the original lineup, I’ll always be thankful for Mike, Bruce, and their band for still having the strength and desire to play 100+ shows a year. Being able to see any of the original members in concert 62 years after the band’s inception is a miracle.
Anyway, I’m probably getting close to the comment character limit now. Thanks for the review.

I agree with you. It’s not perfect but I’ve seen them many, many with my dad because Mike is crazy and tours 180 days a year 😅but I’m also grateful, cause it’s all I’ll get, being born too late for most of the best music.
You forgot David Marks and Bruce Johnston.
Bruce is often not recognized as an original because technically he wasn’t there at the very start. but I’ve met him a couple times and he’s my favorite beach boy. I feel like the boy deserve to be considered “originals”.
i saw them a few nights ago. Outstanding show. Great set list that covered at least 30 songs, and they played over two hours.
Sounds incredible! It’s so sad that Mike, Al and Brian aren’t even occupying the same stage. Still I love them all. The set list was killer!
I saw them this week. It was so disappointing-actually kind of sad. I know and expected the line-up; I saw them two years ago (and countless times before that). The change is stunning. This time I thought Mike Love must be ill, but I saw some other videos from the last couple months that were the same.
At least Bruce seems fine. The drummer was amazing good, they need to keep him.
I just saw them yesterday at the Ridgefield Place House in CT. $135.00 ticket. I agree with you, it seemed like a tribute band. Every one was sitting and security was running around yelling at everyone who took their phone out. I know video recordings are not allowed, but these guys were way over the top…As for everyone sitting because of their age, I don’t buy that. I saw Ring Star last year and no one was sitting, same with George Thorogood. They sounded good, but I was disappointed
Most of these old bands are like karaoke due to new members. Many have like 1 or maybe 2 original members…
Hi, thanks for this review. I love this band’s music so much but I don’t think I can bring myself to see this version. I attended many Beach Boys concerts in the early 1980s when it was the three brothers (although Brian Wilson was only at half the shows I saw) along with Al and Brian Johnston. Those shows, when the guys were all around 40, are some of my fondest concert memories. The band was tight, high octane, early rock & roll and the audience was up and dancing throughout the show. They sounded much better to me live at that point than they do on (for example) The Beach Boys Concert album which was recorded when they were in their early 20s. For any Beach Boys fans who want a taste of what it was like to be in the recording studio with these guys, when some of their classic tunes were being created, I highly recommend the album/CD entitled Hawthorne California. It’s almost like a mini documentary composed of vintage sound clips. Thanks again for the review.

What are they supposed to do? Dig Carl up? Fish Dennis out of the sea? Brians retired. They still sell tickets so people want to see them. I saw them 3 times this summer, I loved it. The Stones have 2 original members. The same goes for them. Get over it or stay home...
Brian being called a genius was a promotional gimmick that was thought up decades ago to help boost his work and it worked. Brian wrote many harmonies but he wasn't all that great at lyrics and he couldn't take the pressure of the road. It was a lot more equal between Mike and Brian than anyone has ever given credit for. Mike did in fact take Brian to court and proved he either wrote or co-wrote more than half the songs that Brain had claimed credit for. Mike won all back royalties numbering in many many millions of dollars as well as written credit on all album releases AND the legal right to perform with his own lineup as the Beach Boys.
I would like to see a review of Travis Scott’s tour that’s coming to MGM grand on October 29th I think.

The Beatles Rubber Soul inspired Brian to do Pet Sounds which in turn inspired Revolver and Pepper's, which inspired Smile.

No one who cares thinks this version of the band wrote and recorded the band's great music, they just want to hear it performed live, especially since it won't be happening much longer.

My HONEST review! This is an ego driven Mike Love cover band. This is NOT the Beach Boys! 2 band members and just random people. One even being Jeff Foskett that turned his back on Brian, to only go to Mike? Wth? Just saying, the Beach Boys ARE Brian, Carl, Dennis, AL, and Mike. They'll never be replicated. Mike is just in love with himself and $. That's all he's doing it for.
AGREE....mikeyluv SHOULD tour under his own name, Like McCartney doesn't rely on Beatles name for HIS tour.
Mike doesn’t have enough of his own stuff to tour as himself. He and Bruce do a good job considering. You’re not wrong though about the ego, he’s definitely doing it for the attention at this point, it’s been like that for his whole life, what’s he supposed to do, relax? Retire? lol
I get your point but Brian hated touring and has always been happy to let Mike front the road show. Brian always voted to grant Love the license because Brian makes money from the shows and knows that without Love there would be no tour income.
This is not the Beach Boys. It's a 1 out of 10. The harmonies were Brian, Carl and Alan Jardine. Mike Love sang lead on a number of songs and co-wrote (mainly lyrics) many of their hits. For him to perform as the Beach Boys without Brian, Carl and Dennis Wilson or Alan Jardine is just not right in my book. It's a paycheck for him and a misrepresentation of what you're gonna see as a spectator.
Stay home then. What will you do when your 80? People still love them. Why ruin others good time. So you stay miserable ok. Good.
