I'm glad to hear Brian say he wouldn't change one note on Pet Sounds. It's perfection.
I hope people 2000 years from now, whatever planet they inhabit still listen to this album ;)
I'm sure keeping it as an LP and might bury it somewhere. So that people 2000 years later will dig this up and listen. Hope they still have a record player. Might bury that with the record too. :-)
I find it hard to fathom this music not sounding beautiful to every creature in the universe. Is it just because we like it so much that it sounds like absolute perfection of is it just that?
@@skifullydone8165 And don't forget an amp with rca phono inputs with some speakers, too, while we're at it. You'll need a big casket, haha.
Really Mike? Because according to all the sources you told Brian in early 1966 - "don't fuck with the formula".
Mike is not a big fan of history. Unless he can rewrite it, of course!
The truth is at the time of this album's recording, Mike and Brian began having major disagreements about the group's direction, with Mike very reluctantly having any part of what Brian and his new lyric writers were creating.
Now, Mike talks like he was all "on board" with what was happening...what a bunch of crap!
It deserves every little bit of praise it's ever received.
the greatest album of all time
Donna Frost sgt pepper
Jonathan Billings which has aged better? Pet Sounds
Charlie Sunday pets sounds is good, I think equal to sgt peppers but Revolver is above both in my opinion
@Donna Frost Indeed
Dark Side of the Moon? Sgt Pepper? Revolver?
Far be it for me to criticize or even THINK about correcting what Brian Wilson says, I really have to add one thing to his comment about "giving the audience a sense or feeling of joy". "Pet Sounds" is an artistic album about loss of youth and love, love lost, loneliness and misunderstanding...basically the whole aura of "Pet Sounds" is melancholy. Brian Wilson somehow managed to produce and arrange these brilliant songs in such a way that he gave his listening public lyrically melancholy songs that are musically happy and uplifting, which gave us all hope for ourselves. Therein lies his genius!
Well said
I speculate that they cut that from his comments on "Wouldn't it Be Nice". Pet Sounds is a wounded album, but the editing bumpkins needed to end on a high note.
The first time I listened to Pet Sounds I thought it was very poignant, even depressing at times. After a few more listens I started to feel that joy. Now I can't live without it.
You nailed it. And with regard to Sgt Peppers comparisons. I love that album too, but it doesn’t affect me emotionally the way Pet Sounds does.
Pet Sounds changed rock and roll forever. All you need to do is ask Paul McCartney...he'll tell you....
Mike Poznoski rubber soul changed rock in the way that pet sounds was completely influenced by it. Beatles > beach boys
Ron Don Valante thou st pepper was largely influenced by pet sounds
WOW 50 years later and im still playing original LP
Gonna play that too now. Almost 2018....Damn, time flies.
“I don’t have a title take 1!” 😂😂😂
I love Brian's new hairstyle! And he is looking and sounding so great lately. Happier, his speech is clearer, he seems so lucid and himself again. It's a joy to see. So many years lost, but, damn girl, you're back and I love it
Long live Brian Wilson
Brian Wilson so iconic yet accessible. Just want to wrap him up & carry him around in my heart. Brilliance, excellence, genius - living legend
"Because I was young, energetic and happy." 🙂
Brian Wilson is the ultimate coolest dude! Cannot wait to see him again tonight perform this album.
ONE OF THE GREATEST ALBUMS THERE WILL EVER BE!
Masterpiece , when this album clicks on you it's all over and you are under its spell for life
"Pet Sounds" is a timeless masterpiece made for every new generation. You will still hear it in 500 years from now, together with Beethoven, Mozart, Gershwin, Ravel, Debussy and others...
57 years today. My favorite album of all time, as I’m sure it’s many others across the world. God bless Brian Wilson and the rest of the boys. I just wasn’t made for these times, is still the song I relate to the most, out of every song ever created.
I played this to my first baby girl in the womb 18 years ago & I'm playing it to my new baby girl in the womb right now.
Good vibrations baby!!
Maybe the best rock album ever made, despite another great albums, but Pet Sounds is so perfect.
I don't think the Beat;es created an album as beautiful as this, and I like the Beatles more
+whiteshadow59 I like more Dylan, but Brian Wilson is a genius too
whiteshadow59 ehhh I would say revolver is better and a few others that are just as good
First thing: You can't really compare the Beatles with the Beach Boys. Surfsound vs. British pop. One a note: Y ou can say Pet Sounds and Sgt. Peppers are 2 albums that stand out.
I think you might be right a a collection of songs, their harmonies you so on point.
Every time I listen to Pet Sounds I understand and lose myself in the magic inherent in music, in that rare music that knows how to transmit emotions from the heart to the heart without passing through the brain. God bless you Brian Wilson, god only knows how many times you have saved me from smug self-destruction ..
Al's voice is just as good as ever I see!
Took me many listens and a few years....but this might just be the greatest album ever created. Definitely my favorite album.
god i love this album more than me
It's really funny to see the rest of the band talking about how it's such a masterpiece when you know the full history of what happened. Brian had a freakout while on tour and dropped out and came back home to focus all of his attention on creating music in the studio. He wasn't interested in churning out more surf music. Instead, he was looking to top the Beatles Revolver album that'd blown his mind. Meanwhile, the rest of the band was busy touring the world playing all the "hits" not realizing music had changed. So when they got back and heard all of this new music they simply didn't get it. Both the record label and the rest of the band didn't hear any "hits." Mike Love was particularly critical. Just listen to the lyrics in, I Just Wasn't Made For These Times
Every time I get the inspiration
To go change things around
No one wants to help me look for places
Where new things might be found
Actually, the lyrics throughout the album describe Brian's headspace at that time pretty clearly. It's one of the most personal albums I've ever heard. Brian said it's a "joyful" album but I hear sadness.
It is really one of the saddest albums ever
ehh, revolver was released 3 months after pet sounds, you mean rubber soul
It’s a crime we never got a collaboration song with Brian Wilson and Paul McCartney
A friend like you, from gettin it over my head
Loved listening to Pet Sounds, it is the Best Beach Boys Album of all time!!
Brian is a inspiration honestly he made me want to do music you can do it
Love this! I saw Pet Sounds 50th anniversary tour last night. What a beautiful experience. Brian looked and sounded fantastic!! So did the entire band.
I Love your music Brian, you are a genius.
I AM FEELING IT!!!!! thanks Brian & All
simplesmente fantástico...
Love him so. Forever.
Happy 57th Pet Sounds 💚💛💚💛
Excited for the reissue!

Ben Dawson
It was great to see Brian and Al and the wonderful musicians on 29 th May . Tyneside UK.
Fantastic memories of a brilliant concert
Audy fordy It is amazing too see them live
Thank you, Brian for this great masterpiece. You are amazing and Sensational. Thank you for this album! I'm a Beatles fan and I love Pet Sounds so much. This is the album of my heart. Thank you so much.
I buy the vinyl record on Amazon few weeks ago... Great album.
6:22 Dennis was the man!!
I love how he creates vocals. It’s unbelievable how he can do that. Wish I could have just a bit of that
I love Pet sounds
thank you
I know Bruce meant winter '65. Winter '66 is when Brian was in the midst of the SMiLE sessions.
Winter of '66 includes January, February and most of March of 1966. Bruce meant Winter '66 and he was right.
globalmonkey007 yeah, you're right
The editor or the people that make this video, used Mike and Bruce interviews for The Smile Sessions.
One of the best records ever.
This video made my week
From David A. Wood: I fully agree the late Fleetwood Mac keyboardist/lead singer, Christine McVie. The gloriously beautiful song, "God Only Knows," is my favorite Beach Boys song as well. It is one of the few songs that comes close to moving me to tears. Regrettably, "God Only Knows" hasn't yet done it, and that is sad, because it would be a blissful release of positive emotions!
Al still sounds great on "Sloop John B". Amazing !
From this hip hop head. Thank you thank you for creating this beautiful musical masterpiece. I tell everyone about it. And I have a podcast and talk about it there too.
❤
Hi Good Friday
Did I really just hear Brian Wilson say "fuck"? 😂
4:15 area
The all times greatest genius rock album of all times.
Brian Wilson Genius xxx
Curious. If they could have put Good Vibrations on the album, would you have put it on (does it fit musically/thematically? And if so, where in the running order would you put it? What would you cut, if anything?
Brian Wilson is a musical mastermind
Pet Sounds was a great Beach Boys Album
💖💖💖💖
Brian and the boys ! Longue vie de bonheur ! Et de paix ! Jean claude jaffry lorient FRANCE
4:56 Freddie Mercury on the saxophone
Brian Wilson is one of the greatest musicians of the 20th century you can feel the sadness pain joy and hope in everything he wrote probably the last celebrity whose death is going to hurt me in ways only someone who changes your life can if there is a heaven brian is getting a front-row seat
Brian was uncompromising in the way he sensed this album, nothing less would do and we're better off for it!
You wonder what Brian and Paul McCartney could come up with, working with George Martin, just in case they couldn't agree.
The sweetness of Rock n Roll.
Yeah, Brian is the sweetness of Rock n Roll.
This Is My Fantantic
23 and all alone in the creative process
Listening to A Day in the Life while watching this lol.
Amazing making of... You know ?
Every time I hear it end to end, I think was Revolver better?? John had Paul, Brian was as alone to himself creatively as Picasso was.
You can't compare, both are different and unique in their own way. Beach boys were different musically than, the Beatles. What's interesting they both learned from each other.
What a relief that protools didn’t exist back then - and the wrecking crew did.
The greatest album ever!!!!!!!! Its like planting a flag on top of the rock n roll mountain! What's amazing about it is the music, the universe of sound was expanded! The songs are from the heart and genuine! It is pure magic! A Brian Wilson only comes down the pike every 200 to 300 years musically speaking! I cant believe I live on earth at the same time as this talent! Its like living on the plant with mozart! This guy is the truth! He cut this album at 23 years old! Words can't describe his brilliance!
Wtf is Mike doing there
Ikr
@@unit-0123 Mike Love doesn't get much love, haha.
He was the lead singer in Pet Sounds why the hell wouldn't he be there?
“Get across to the audience a feeling of great joy…” The difference between Brian Wilson and John Lennon.
Brian was definitely a musical savant,he had an ear that should have been donated to the Smithsonian..oh damn that's already been said
pet sounds or sgt. pepper's?
Pet sounds is far superior
Abbey Road is better than Sgt Pepper.
I wouldn't say far superior
revolver is better than sgt peppers imo, but pet sounds is definitely better than sgt peppers
Dave Grohl Pet Sounds inspired Sgt. Pepper 😀
gody knows
The record company should have trusted and believed in Brian’s Genius as a musician.but there you go....
There are some great songs , and a new style of production, but I don't get why it is one of the greatest albums ever.
I understand the impact on other artists, but I feel Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band was a far superior album, song wise.
I don't feel the rapture for Pet Sounds and I really want to.
Seeing this album being praised by Mike Love is so funny because he only likes it because it's loved now. He wanted to make the old music, not Pet Sounds.
your quite right, what a loser he was
Capitol only cared about selling records and artistic creativity was never a thoght. Over 50 years later, what is The Beach Boys best selling album? Sure ain't Surfin USA
it really took only 3 months to the whole songwriting and production of pet sounds??

I’m 23 and here I am
Pet Sounds > Sgt. Pepper
good album but to compare it to Sgt. Pepper is a bloody sin. I like Pet Sounds however it does not even belong on the same planet.
They are TOTALLY different. But my favourite is Pet Sounds.
Pet Sounds is more of a concept album than Sgt. Pepper and musically more complex
Caleb De La Torre Also, more approachable to listen to. In my opinion, Sgt. Pepper is just a period's album. What I mean is that Pet Sounds is still coherent and relatable to everyone. In the other hand, Sgt Pepper's belongs to '67 the year of psychedelic stuff.
I agree, Sgt Peppers is not in the league of Pet Sounds, much less "Smile".
***** And Sgt. Peppers is not even Beatle's best album. I don't know why people think of it that way. In my opinion, Sgt. Pepper's beat song is "Day In The Life" which is a masterpiece.
