You are 100% correct about the stiffness of the ride and road noise generated by run flats.
Yeah, it’s crazy how stiff they are.
*The Run Flats are gone on all of my Corvettes as soon as tires are needed. The benefits of having Non Run Flats are huge! As the OP stated in the video, they are "quieter", smoother riding", "less expensive" last longer", (and if you have a C7 Z06 or GS, you lose that awful "hop skip" the tires do when making tight low speed turns when the tires are still hard & cold, such as early morning garage and driveway exits.) I have Mag Ride on my C7 Grand Sport, and before the new 2018 software update that GM charged $350 for was available, my ride was too stiff even in Tour Mode. Car was so stiff I felt GM should have made the new software update a FREE RECALL instead of a $350 upgrade. I refused to buy the upgrade even though I needed it seriously. Then, my Run Flats wore out at $15K miles and I replaced them with Continental Extreme Contact Non Run Flats! Wow, what a difference! My car became probably as smooth as the software update would have probably provided. I have totally forgotten about that Mag Ride software Update now and have all the benefits listed earlier. If anyone is worried about driving on Non Run Flat tires you are doing yourself a great disservice. I addressed how living with non run flats is so easily done in a reply to another post here in this same video's thread. Good luck!*

I bought a 2019 C7 Stingray with Mag Ride. I couldn't get those factory run-flats off quick enough. I put on Continental All-Seasons and couldn't be happier. They ride better with less road noise.

I can confirm your discovery about run flats being rougher than “go flats” (regular tires). I first discovered that several years ago accidentally when BMW stopped supplying a spare tire. First time I had to replace tires on my daily driver 750Li, which happened way too fast in all six BMW’s that I’ve owned, I found that the big high performance run flats for my 7 were not only low mileage tires (180’s) but also super expensive. ( Ranging from $2600 to nearly $3K a set).
Here’s how I beat the situation - I decided to get regular Michelin Z rated 4S all season but with a much higher tread wear (500’s) and add a spare tire and wheel (I even had to buy a $150 jack from the dealer).
Discount Tire sold me a spare wheel for $200 and they put one of my old run flats on the new spare wheel.
A set of four Michelins that were offset 20’s and 22’’ (just as big as the tires on my C7 Corvette) only cost $1250 mounted balanced with road hazard warranty. I drove out for $1500 including the one time purchase of the spare wheel and jack, and I had tires that cost half as much,lasted twice as long and rode significantly smoother.
To do the same for your corvette, you have to measure and see whether or not a spare tire will fit in your trunk or frunk.
Yep. I had the same thing with my Mini Coopers. The stupid run flats that BMW put on them lasted 10k miles. I quickly replaced those with, as you say, go flat tires and after 36k miles, they still looked brand new. 👍😊
Yes we are blessed. Tires do make a big difference. Run Flats must be more expensive as well. I rely on my aftermarket TPMS system to let me know of the real time air pressure and an alert if it goes below threshold.

*The answer, at least for me .. is NOT Fix a Flat! ... I have replaced the Run Flats on my last two Corvettes with wonderous success and comfort by addressing my potential flats with a simple 12V air compressor & a simple "Plug Kit" kept in the trunk. The cigarette lighter air compressor can inflate a low or slow leaking tire and keep you going until you can get better help, and a plug kit can actually allow you to repair /plug your damage and keep you going for years on the same tire as I have proven myself. Just watch a CZcams video on plugging a flat tire. It's very simple and almost anyone can do it quickly and successfully, then air it right up from your 12V air compressor and off you go! You don't even have to jack up the car or anything. A decent cigarette lighter plug air compressor can inflate the tire even with the weight of the car on it as I have done myself. Changing tires on your C8 will cost more than adding mag ride and everyone should realize that on the base car the ride is excellent without mag ride and probably as good or better than a Z51 with it.

Merry Christmas Mike, I liked your take on the difference between run flats and regular tires. I have owned a C6 for 6 years now and running the Goodyear Eagle OEM tires (not the ones that came on the car new but a second set) which I’m planning to replace soon. It’s my weekend fun car and I drive it about 2k miles a year. I hate the road noise and the harsh ride. I was thinking of switching to the Michelin all season run flats, but I’m maybe going to change that and go with non run flats. My only concern is even with my low miles I’ve had two flats…both times nails…one through the sidewall…but I still could drive it to the tire shop. Thanks for the info and I’ll research a little further as far as roadside repair kits etc…being stranded is no fun.

I have a z51 nob mag ride 2024. I an thinking about trading it in because the ride is bumpy. One of the run flats has a staple in it. Should I by go flats or get a new car none z51?

No, you don’t have to do anything at all. They fit perfect. 245/30/20’s on the front 325/25/21’s on the rear. 👍😊
Consider the new z06 comes from the factory with 20/21 wheels, rumor is eRay will also have those sizes.

Hi Mike, first let me say thank you for your comment about God. Very few people will even acknowledge that God exist in todays world. Everyone wants to celebrate Christmas but not everyone will acknowledge that God sent his only son to die for our sins, so God bless you and your family. On the rear 21" rims what width are your tires? I'm looking at a set of 20′′ for the front and 21′′ wheels for the rear on my 2023 C8. (Non Z51) I have Michelin Pilot Sport Cup2 315/30ZR 19s on my C5 so I want to at least go with 335s on the rear of the C8.
Best option to not have rubbing or any other fitment issues is 325/25/21 rear and either 245/30/20 or 255/30/20 in the front, Talk you our friend Jose at Wheel Designers he can assist with getting you the right size wheels and offsets, he sells all brands including ForgedLite.

I have a question.. But what happens if you do get a flat in an area that is sparsely populated? I have run flats on my Z4.. I no longer have the oem Bridgestone Potenzas which were really harsh and now ride on a Michelin product... I don't feel safe driving without a spare...

Why are you always driving in the passing (left) lane?
No, in my case, skipping run flats wasn't worth it. The Michelin PSS are either really light, or Contis are very heavy. 335s non runflat Contis were only 1 lb lighter each than the PSS ZP, and 3 lbs lighter in the front. Not worth it. I'd rather stick with the tires it was developed on.
I disagree. I went from 18 to 19 on my golf R & the NVH went up due to smaller sidewall. Any tire pro will tell ya
Yeah run flats are awful and actually much more prone to total blowouts. Everyone should ditch them
