When they said zero tolerance, they meant zero tolerance for standing up for yourself. In high school, I watched a girl get shoved down the stairs and get absolutely whaled on at the bottom of the stairs, and the APs did nothing to keep it from happening. But I smack one guy in the back of the head who's been tormenting me and my friend in theater tech the entire semester, and suddenly they're trying to press charges on me bc I had enough of him harassing us and no one would do anything about it. I didn't even hit him that hard, but I guess if a guy decides to torment an autistic girl and she retaliates, suddenly she's a threat and needs to be detained. My mother had several words about it and they dropped the case. That guy never did mess with me again though.

    • @Spectere
      @Spectere Před rokem +12

I actually have to give my high school a ton of credit for handling at least one incident like this well. One of my classmates was getting bullied relentlessly by one particular person. Finally, he'd had enough, whipped around, and knocked the bully out cold in one punch.
They were both sent home while the administration reviewed the school footage and took statements (this happened during a class change, so there were a ton of witnesses). The following day, the bully wound up getting suspended for a week and the person who defended himself was not punished at all. To say that everyone was pleasantly surprised would be an understatement.

Lol man I am so happy that my parents never try to rearrange my stuff on their own. Although they did do something similar once but it was genuinely one of the nicest things they have done for me as an adult. I was living in an apartment about 2 hours from them and was going to school full time and working on the weekends. I was telling my mom how overwhelmed I was and how I hated being in my home because of how messy it was but I didn’t have the time/energy to take care of it. I was driving to work and almost in tears from how tired I was. I couldn’t even make myself food because I had no clean dishes or space. I worked my shift and when I got home my entire apartment was spotless. Her and my dad had driven down and deep cleaned my apartment. They did the laundry, the dishes, played with my dog and just made the place beautiful! They didn’t rearrange anything. It was just so perfect! It still fills me with warmth and love years later.

The Doctor Who one was golden. A little more context for that episode: They suggest that the silence had been living on earth for potentially hundreds of years, coaching humanity in a certain direction. They manage to defeat them by tricking one of them into saying "you should kill us all on sight" and feeding that footage through the Apollo moon landing footage, subliminally ordering their own execution without humans even realise they're killing them. They often hide on ceilings in groups and it was a common scare they did whenever they appeared

My mom has only rearranged my furniture once. Because I bought a new shelf that she helped me assemble, and then did some mild rearranging to accommodate it (I moved my TV over and swapped my couch and end table to keep it centered). This is because her mom used to like to show up at my parents place and rearrange their furniture, and she swore she’d never do that to her kids.

13:09 Something kinda opposite happened to me (and still happens).
When I was a child I used to sleep on the second floor of my parents' house, and I got used to walking quietly because normal walking on the second floor makes a lot of noise.
Because of this, I accidentally scare everyone all the time in that house.

Babysitting story (the family rate section): $200 for six hours is about $33 an hour. If the SIL wasnt bullshitting about this being her livelihood and had a childcare degree and they both live in a high cost of living area, that would be understandable but still high for a family rate. The average hourly rate for nannies across the US is $20.57 an hour for one kid and $23.25 for two kids.

On the last story, I guess we should amend the phrase “never mess with the IT guy” to “never mess with the IT guy or a welder”! Bravo, OP!!!
On the jump scare story, reminds me of a funny story from my youth. My younger sister loved to tease me. She and another girl were in my sister’s bedroom one night watching Psycho. Not being into scary movies I opted out. I lurked by her door for a few minutes about an hour into the movie. I waited silently for the swell of music that precedes something scary is about to happen. Here is where I pause to share, the door had long since been damaged and no longer latched closed. So it opened with a gentle push. When I needed to knock on her door, I made it a habit to hold it closed via the doorknob first. I assume you all see where this is going! Yes, I waited for the music to reach its spooky heights, then shoved the door open with both hands, yelling. Both girls jumped and SCREAMED! All 3 of us were laughing very hard! It was pretty awesome!!

Then, I got the bright idea: Instead of washing the soap off, I'd rub it in so you couldn't tell my arm was covered in soap. That was the LAST time he played that game, and I got a 'way to think outside the box' from Mom.

Some nosey people will voluntarily move things around and reorganize your things to cover the fact that they were snooping. Instead of one or two things being slightly out of place and therefore noticeable, everything is out of place, making nothing stand out.

At work we have had a problem for YEARS of people doing pick up/drop off right Infront of the building. The recently closed off half a lanes worth with cones and signs saying "NO PARKING. NO PICK UP. NO DROP OFF" to deter this making it impossible to go around now. (Side note we do have a pick up/drop off parking section maybe 50 feet further from the door)
Came to work one day after the cones and signs and the guy Infront of me just stops. So I wait couple seconds Incase it's a drop off as those don't take long but instead he puts on his flashers. So I just laid down the horn. After about a minute he gets out of his car yelling profanities about his flashers being on and to go around. So I yelled back profanities about the signs asking if he can read. After about 3 minutes of yelling he goes back to his car and so do I. Waited 15 seconds then started the horn again. I did this for 10 whole minutes. He finally started to creep down the forced turn into the parking lot where I was going, at a speed of 3MPH. I didn't mind as we have limit signs saying 5MPH. I passed a few spots just to ensure he was far enough he couldn't just turn around and go back. After I parked he sped off and went who knows where. Since then security now stands outside during shift changes to ensure what I did doesn't happen again.

$200 for 6 hours comes to roughly $33 per hour. The average hourly cost for a nanny/sitter in the US is $20 per hour. I’m curious how she put her billing together, for $33 to be her “cheap” rate, or if she just pulled that number out of her behind.

My mother is exactly like the 3rd OP's mother. Everything has to be where she likes it, even if it makes no sense.
Tooth brush in a cup on the bathroom counter? Nope! It has to be put away inside the cabinet every time its used. Expensive pencils and pens left out for five minutes in the middle of writing something? Nah, just shove them in a drawer somewhere that you'll never find them again. My homework during grade school is sitting on the kitchen table because she refuses to let me use the office? Just cram it into a random spot in my backpack, _then yell at me for getting a zero because I couldn't find it!_
Any item you could think of, she could find a drawer to shove it in!
It's actually pretty funny, because her justification of this was always "being neat and tidy", but her obsession with never leaving anything out made any drawer in the house a cluttered mess. It was to the point that my mother was constantly insisting to my grade school teachers that I was just forgetful, rather than admitting that my stories about her cleaning obsession were true.
