      Probably should run the shuffle titans and blightsteel because if someone swords or paths blightsteel you just have to scoop bc you won't be able to do anything and tibalt's trickery will be in your graveyard. The shuffle titans are expensive af but they have cast triggers and if they die shuffle tibalt's back into your library.

You also include the animate lands like Lavaclaw Reaches. And for an additional chance, add maze’s end for another possibility. Just thought of a really broken strategy using this idea. If the 3rd card is Jace, wielder of mysteries (Planeswalker), then you can play him and when you play the commander (because it was countered by Tibalt) all that's left in your library is lands. You completely empty your library into exile, use Jace's +1 ability to draw a card, but because you have no cards in your library and can't draw, you win the game through Jace's passive effect.
    Reminds me of using Inverter of truth + Elixer of Immortality to cause the same effect.

    • @UnbearablePeacock
      @UnbearablePeacock Před 2 lety

      Before anyone tries to build this: it doesn't work. You can't use a Planeswalker ability (or anything really) while you're resolving the cascade effect. At the end of the cascade effect, all the lands will be back in your library.

    This is a super fun deck idea and I love the novelty and freshness. But, this feels better as a possible play in something like the Illuna build so you still have some protection and places to go. This feels like a prayer still. I think this early in the game someone will have a way to exile the Blightsteel or counter Trickery before you can win. At least in the Illuna build you've got two permanents still since The First Sliver is countered and you can have protection and other strategies to play into potentially. You also don't need Tibalt's Trickery in hand and Blightsteel or whichever other card in the deck. The 99 would be fairly different although you still want ways to put Blightsteel or whatever the permanent is back in the deck just like in the Omniscience build, but you could do a lot of other stuff too. You could also shirk the instants and sorceries that make creatures to mutate onto for manlands so that you can build the 99, or 98 I should say, with more synergy and strength for your plan. Love these ideas though Mitch, don't let them stop because they keep influencing my own style in ways that I love. I do like the idea of doing this into one of the cards with Epic and will give that a go. Seems like the best home for that ability anyways.

    If you're going the blightsteel route, a few nice lands would include discard abilities (since blightsteel gets shuffled into your library after it goes to grave). This would help mitigate the "oh crap" scenario where you draw the blightsteel.
    Some possibilities include Desolate Lighthouse, Rix Maadi Dungeon Palace, and the ever-great Geier-Reach Sanitarium (All budget).

    If you build this to use endless swarm, might i also recommend reliquary tower? Playing lands after you have executed this combo doesn't really do much for you, so why not use a land to get rid of your max hand size, and make more and more snakes every turn by simply not playing cards! Means you only have to play utility lands if you want to.
    Also, I'm totally building this deck to use all 3 of those wincons. That fixes the issue of milling your wincon with trickery, and fixes the problem of it playing the same every time. Sometimes you are snake swarm, sometimes you are a thief, and other times you slap your blightsteel on the table like a baller and dare your opponents to remove it

It's a $5.00 card and has an effect to pay 20 mana and cast any number of Eldrazi cards from outside the game without paying their mana costs. So I figure, survive long enough to get to 25 mana in one turn, then cascade, tibalt, and a ton of eldrazi.

    • @kylejohnson4662
      @kylejohnson4662 Před 2 lety

      The replacement effect changes what happens. So instead of colossus being put into the graveyard by trickery, it will be revealed and reshuffled back into the deck. Then trickery will flip through the deck looking for a card not named first sliver. All of this will be during the resolution of trickery so your opponents won’t be able to respond to colossus being revealed.

    I think an alternative commander would best be Maelstrom Wanderer because it gives you access to that red. it won't allow you to have that mana fixing from Jegantha, but does that really matter when you have 2 less colors that you need to fix? Also Maelstrom is under the cost of Eternal Dominion, and Endless Swarm so using blightsteel isnt your only option. Unfortunately since you counter your commander with Tibalt's trickery you won't be able to have your blightsteel have haste on the turn you cast it. the only drawback with this is it takes longer to cast Maelstrom since it costs 8 instead of 5.

      double faced cards are spell side up while in your library, hand, and graveyard

    I made sucha deck with 95 lands, the payoff is (Apex devastator cascading into)(Maelstrom Wanderer cascading into)Cultivator Colossus - play (almost) all of the 90 lands and win right away with hasty zombies and ~90/90 Cultivator colossus, or hide behind Glacial Chasm and win next turn with Maze's End ... If not countered, the deck wins almost deterministicly turn 4-5 (turn 3 with best ramp) ... Edit: also you only mentioned the krosan verge as a 1 way to ramp and there are 12(?) lands that ramp us into First sliver, the 5 sac lands from Invasion and 5 storage lands From Time spiral (all 10 are budget friendly !) and Gemstone Cavern

    Maelstrom Wanderer could also work, at least with Blightsteel Colossus + Eternal Dominion. You still have access to red so Tibalt's Trickery is still a thing, you're gonna cascade twice from Maelstrom (not sure how relevant that actually is). The main drawback is that it costs 8 mana in total instead of 5, and you might be better off doing a Mana Severance + Jace Wielder of Mysteries win with this commander anyway.

    If you did mill Blightsteel, does his ability go on the stack before Tibalts trickery resolve? So he would go back in the deck, or does the spell keep priority?

    • @assault410
      @assault410 Před 2 lety +1

      No. It goes on after (but on top of the sliver) because you are resolving the effect of trickery.

    Hah! I saw this last night; didn't read the comments until just now, and I see Thorinox's. The biggest baddie I have lying around is also Emrakul, the Aeons Torn, and I made this with him (I also had a First Sliver and a bunch of dual lands). He's great since if you mill him w/Trickery then your graveyard gets shuffled into your library. You just have to NOT draw him the first 4/5 draws--or 6/7 draws if you end up drawing Trickery, since you'll have to cast it from your hand. Additionally, since you're casting Emrakul, you get to take another turn and attack. With Annihilator 6, on turn 5 (enemy's turn 4 if you were on the play). So spicy! Oh yeah, and Emrakul has protection from colored spells, so...

    When you mentioned that imoti couldn't work I instantly had to think of tinker. So I started doing a bunch of math:
    If I'm not mistaken, there are six artifact lands in color to date, not counting any that make artifact tokens or anything.
    giving you roughly 36% chance to draw atleast one in your opening opening hand.
    After mulagaining four times that that number goes up to roughly 90%.
    In my playgroup the first muligain is free, so that means 90% of the time I'd have atleast 4 cards left in my opening hand to fix colors, and make sure the last land enters untapped.
    And muligaining until I'd have one card left comes down to roughly 97%
    And these numbers could be improved if lands that make artifact tokens are included as well.
    It was at this at this point i remembered tinker was banned.....*facepalm*
    On an unrelated note,
    Not sure if anyone has already mentioned it, but if I'm not wrong you could build a similar deck to the one in de video with Plargg at the helm.
    Edit, reread tibalt's trickery, and Plargg wouldn't work....*facepalm*

    Alternatively you can do this with Maelsteom Wanderer as the commander. It’ll cost 8cmc instead of 5cmc but is less complex of a mana base being only 3 colors instead of 5, and because it cascades twice you can get away with putting in 1 other nonland card that’s less than 8 mana… like a ramp spell or something

    While I think this deck is interesting, I have doubts that it will ever win. So much of the removal in commander can actually hit blightsteel (Path, Swords, Chaos Warp, Resculpt, Ravenform, Reality Shift, Return to Dust, Crush Contraband, Dispatch, Unexpectedly Absent, Winds of Abandon, Despark, Anguished Unmaking, Utter End, every one of the transform enchantment cards, Cyclonic Rift, Toxic Deluge, Merciless Eviction, not to mention a single counterspell on the trickery), so it isn't even that likely to stay around. Plus even if it does, it will almost always take 2 swings with it to take someone out and it doesn't have haste, so that is minimum 6 turns after you play your commander on turn 4 or 5, which would mean you are almost never winning the game before turn 10 or 11. Plus you have no way to actually defend yourself, and if you play a blightsteel colossus on turn 4 or 5 you will be target #1. Then on top of that I can't imagine this deck would be that fun to actually play. Its probably pretty hilarious the first 2 or 3 times you turbo out a blightsteel but then what? The deck is completely linear. I appreciate the video, and I do really think it is a really interesting and worth while idea to think about, but I don't know if anyone should ever actually buy this deck, if you already have the cards its probably pretty funny to toss it together and see the looks on other peoples faces for a week or two, but I don't think many people would be happy spending 80$ on this deck unless they have other homes for these cards.
    Edit: I think the real way to build this deck if you want to win with it is to just use cultivator colossus, Glacial Chasm and Mazes End, plus you could always include petrified field to return mazes end to your hand if someone strip mines it, and deserted temple to untap it and use it immediately if you have to do that. Field of the dead also works quite well in this build to make a bunch of chump blockers but that card is pretty pricey and probably unnecessary for a budget build (and only really necessary if someone strip mines your chasm and they have enough power on the board to kill you). Deck is still super linear and probably really boring to play but it will definitely win some games (Still gets blown out by countermagic).
