@@mochtegernhokage5090 can you break down what you mean please as im a little confused at the question?
etali and elder brain would work in this deck if you swing with them as you are taking things from the opponents hands and deck and getting to cast them for free from etali and elder brain works the same as gonti except its exiling from the hand instead of one of the top 4.
when it comes to hypergenesis the idea is that they will run out of things to put down from their hands before you and you will be able to get more value out of skipping the casting cost meaning that when you swing you can take things they didnt get to cheat into play
i hope that clarifys their function in the deck

  • @0oz13

Loaming Shaman doesn’t work because Codie says you can’t cast permanent spells? Can someone explain to me how he is using this to shuffle hypergenesis? If you hit this on a Codie 6 cmc spell, you won’t be able to cast it.
I have made a version of this with phasing (phasing Codie) to allow you to cast permanent spells, but can’t seem to find a comment addressing this issue.
Side note: I have seen people running Wild Magic Sorcerer which they assume allows you to play your 6cmc Codie spell, shuffle your H-gen into your deck, and then cast it off of WMS triggered cascade, but that DOES NOT work. All of the cascade type effects trigger before the spells resolve so H-Gen would not technically be in your deck until all your cascade effects have already triggered.

    • @kylemaycock
      @kylemaycock Před rokem +2

As far as I understand, ETB effects don't go on the stack until Hypergenesis has fully resolved, meaning if Loaming Shaman is in your hand when you cast Hypergenesis, you can use its eventual ETB trigger to shuffle Hypergenesis back into your library. No need to cast at all

I'd like to recommend a card for this deck that would work well with hypergenesis; Gather specimens. It isn't guaranteed to hit the hypergenesis if you codie with it, but it can turn off players from putting things from their hand down, less chaos but it makes hypergenesis one sided at least as far as creatures go.

I'm building this deck too, and it's very tough to account for.
Something like a merfolk looter could work, but they'd be a dead draw if hypergenesis is not in your hand, so they're pretty bad. Dusk mangler is almost perfect, but a bit over-costed. lesser masticore and / or sparkhunter masticore might be worth running. Rankle also isn't terrible. Rotting rats is a pretty bad card if you dont need to fix hyper in hand, but can be unearthed even if codie is out. Monastery siege can fix Hyper in hand or protect your dudes, so isn't useless when your deck goes right. Almost no permanent will save you from if you draw hypergenesis on the turn after playing Codie.
Any 'normal' spell would gunk your deck so something like faithless looting wouldn't work.
Day's Undoing could help and function as one of your 3 cost spells, but the turn ending mechanic isn't great.
Fast // Furious, Pain // Suffering, Down // Dirty could all help, but aren't that great by themselves, but you don't need them to be.
Overall, lands are your best tool for dumping hypergenesis. I don't think he touched on it, but the dual lands he suggested would cause you to discard a card if you don't cast anything t1 or t2. so that helps a tiny bit.
Desolate lighthouse, rix maadi dungeon palace, and Geier Reach Sanitarium are an auto include.
I'm still looking, I bet there's something perfect I'm missing.

Yes but it's tricky. Use the adventure creatures with 1 CMC spells that make a Food or a Role token, and any cheap creatures that etb and make 1-2 tokens to up your glimpse count. THEN, use 1cmc cards that shuffle cards out of gy, Stream of Thought, Serene Remembarence etc. 2 CMC adventures cascade into the shuffle spells and 1cmc adventures hit glimpse. Also if you hit a land off your glimpse, play Codie because it takes a WHILE to find another 5 land after he's been shuffled.

Hypergenises plays all the big creatures in your hand. When you activate Codie he goes and gets either a card to put hypergenises back in your library to use again or gets hypergenises from your library and casts it for free. The goal is to cheat out A LOT of big nasty creatures faster then everyone else and out value them. Then to swing in for game. The few cards he included to get hypergenises back is in case people have removal or board wipes so you can do it all over again. Might want to also throw in some reanimate type cards to bring back the big guys again.
This is a complicated deck for starting out haha. But it's a good way to force yourself to learn activations and such. Hypergenises is almost turn based as each player plays one creature for free and you go around the table one at a time.

Step 1: Get codie out ASAP to use his ability, hopefully on turn 4
Step 2: Hypergenesis should be in your deck.
Step 3: Use Codie's ability and cast any instant or sorcery or adventure with CMC 3 or less.
3b: this will have you search your deck for a spell to cast a spell CMC 0-2, of which hypergenesis is the only one.
3c: hypergenesis goes off, all players dump the permanents from their hand, but hopefully yours are bigger and scarier.
3d: if the spell you cast at the beginning of step 3 was quandrix command or witness the future, or loaming shaman was in your hand for hypergenesis, make sure hypergenesis goes back into your deck and repeat step 3.
Step 4: Use Codie's ability again to cast a spell of CMC > 3.
4b: codie's ability will cause you to cast either quandrix command or Witness the future. use it to put Hypergenesis back into your deck, and any copies of quandrix command and witness the future too.
      Repeat for profit.
