Rolling stones asked Eddie VanHallen what it felt like to be the best guitarist in the world. He said I don't know you would have to ask Roy Clark about that. If it had strings Roy was a master of it. RIP Mr Clark we miss you and the world is a lesser place with out you.
This is one of those performances where you've heard it and you know it's amazing but still, when you hear it again, you find yourself blown away all over again.
We were treated to this kind of talent all the time on Hee Haw. Jimmy Henley was self-taught like Roy Clark. Roy's family(father & uncles) were his band on Hee Haw a lot. VERY TALENTED FAMILY! Whatever instrument Roy tried to play, he did it very well! He was amazing to watch.
I go to a few blue grass festivals per year, and I am pleased to announce that the love of strings among kids is still going strong and man are some of these kids talented. The future still looks bright.
Roy could play any type of string instrument that you would or could find in Bluegrass, and the harmonica. Jimmy Henley toured with Roy as a kid before playing with his own band as an adult, he passed a few years ago.
Memories...one of the joints we frequented back in the day used this song to close the place...my husband and an older woman in our group would always hit the floor and dance till the end.. they were good

I don't think I've ever seen Keith's brain melt down that fast! It was smoking within the first 30 seconds of the song! I think this might have been a Chernobyl level of meltdown! I was right there with him though. . . That kids haircut had more musical talent than I'll ever have and don't even get me started on Roy Clark. . . I've been privileged to be friends with some incredible Violin players, and one in particular could play a MEAN fiddle, but this took it to a whole nother level!!!!
@@BourbonCountryReacts I've watched it 3 times since I watched your video. I'm still speechless. I truly thought I'd seen everything that could be done with this song, this made me love the song again like the first time I heard it.
My mom said neally all in her family played. That was their evening relaxing after working in the fields. My grandma played guitar.fiddle and auto harp
You heard Roy do a train on the guitar in Folsom Prison Blues and train here. You haven't even heard him on the banjo. Put 2 shoe laces together and Roy would have played the heck out of them. ❤❤❤❤❤
Don't know where I heard this quote. " A great musician knows when not to play " . Roy Clark giving the stage up for a wee boy, just showcases his humble genius. Wouldn't mind a taste of your whisky either😅
Spectacular I've been waiting to see Keith's face when he saw this. Roy Clark was a virtue both so if it had strings he could play it and he could play it masterfully.
The guitarist John 5 said he was seven when he saw Jimmy Henley on Hee Haw and that was when he decided to start playing. So you were right about kids watching this. Glad you enjoyed it.
Whoa. That explains some things I've been wondering about John 5 for a long time. When he wants to do it, he can go into a bluegrass style on guitar that is just mind bending. - Keith
I can't thank you enough for this bribe. I've never been accused of having too many brain cells, especially after my TBI, this blew all of them!!! I went and watched the original 5-6 times just in awe of the amount of talent I was watching. I sent it to a bunch of my friends and it blew there minds too! This sent me down the Roy Clark rabbit hole. . . Wow! I knew he was an amazing musician, but I had NO idea he was THAT good!!! It's been a really fun morning!!!
I grew up watching Roy Clark on Hee Haw with my grandpa, Roy Clark was a hell of a banjo player as well. I remember him playing banjo on this song himself. Great review!
We had a place in Branson (in the previous century - man it hurt to say that) and would go to different shows such as Glen Campbell, Mel Tillis, etc., but Roy's was one of the best and the first "big name" to open a theater there. He always played multiple instruments, bantered with the crowd and was a great personality and entertainer. Living in Tulsa, where we also live, you'd every now and then he had dropped in to Cain's or The Church Studio (Leon Russell's place) when some of the older guys were in town and he'd join them for a bit. He was a real class guy. Motorcyclist, private pilot, etc., he lived life. His wife said if you take something and put strings on it, he'll figure out how to play it.
I forgot to mention that Roy's facial expressions are priceless and always adds to his performance. The one of him doing Dueling Banjos (I can't recall the name of the other musician) has me laughing. There are other ones where his facial expressions just add to his performance.
3 points: 1) This was a segment of HEE HAW! I grew up watching that show every Saturday night. 2) Jimmy Henley was a beast on the banjo. 3) If it had strings, Roy Clark would make it sing. Banjo, electric guitar, acoustic guitar, fiddle - didn't matter. He was the Super Picker!
Please react to Roy Clark with Buck Trent doing Dueling Banjos and Roy doing Folsom Prison Blues. Comedy, but great banjo and guitar (with a few "sound effects") playing.
Look up Jimmy Henley, someone that is mentioned on the channel considers him an inspiration, Jonh 5. When John 5 was seven years old he saw Jimmy play on Hee Haw and has stated "It's crazy there's this exact moment when I realized I wanted to play, it changed my life."
Someone mentioned that in the comments earlier, and, well, it explains some things. John 5, when he wants to, can do some absolutely astonishing things on his telecaster in a bluegrass style. He creates some seriously mind-bending bluegrass riffs. I think this explains why he went down that road in terms of his guitar playing toolbox. - Keith
@@BourbonCountryReacts a damn shame we never saw Roy Clark, Jimmy Henley, and John 5 together. The whole stage may have erupted in flames by their pure talent though.
There are more kids playing bluegrass instruments, more then u know, just got to research the on utube, u will be surprised, mainly families, love from a small town in Virginia
G'day boys, So Keith got himself a donor-cycle... welcome to the ranks of the temporary citizen...😏 I can say it, my youngest son is one too, he's on his 4th bike, a CB650R sports bike,,,he a very strong aversion to cruisers...😁 As far as the video, Holy Snappin' Duck Sh1t mate, can they play!! that sprog's good and ol' Roy was givin' that fiddle a floggin'... anyhoo, stay safe, and keep it 'tween the ditches...😉 🙃🐨🇦🇺
The new bike will be about 90% track duty. I suspect that by the end of the summer (ours, not yours) it'll be missing things like mirrors, headlights, turn signals, kickstand, etc..., sitting on slick race tires, and entirely NOT street legal. - Keith
It would be hysterical if for like April fool's day y'all uploaded a video of y'all reacting to Nascar highlights (do they do those? I haven't gotten into Nascar yet so I don't know.) Don't acknowledge anything is different just pretend like this is what y'all normally do.
If it had strings Roy Clark could play it. You should react to some of the live Hee Haw performances. Everyone in country music appeared on that show back in the day.
Funny you mentioned kids only knowing how to play Xbox. I was walking past the toy section in Walmart and stopped because on an end aisle I saw a baby toy that was shaped like a controller and all the buttons were shapes and colors and it was advertised to help teach babies there shapes and colors. What are we doing as a society when we are putting a game controller into the hands of 1-3 year olds? It ruined an already bad trip to Walmart!

Clark was a master on any instrument with strings!
You took the words right out of my mouth
This is one of those performances where you've heard it and you know it's amazing but still, when you hear it again, you find yourself blown away all over again.
There are some non-country/bluegrass Roy Clark performances where I know for a fact that definitely happens for me. - Keith

That's so good to hear!!
Great reaction. I've seen Roy do the same song Fiddle, Banjo and Guitar, they are all amazing! Roy is awesome on strings.
Yes, Roy is great on these!!
Roy is one of the greatest musicians to ever live and can outplay just about anyone on about any instrument.
Roy Clark is the best!!❤🔥🔥🔥🔥🎶
Roy Clark was an amazing musician 👏
If you haven't seen it yet, you should see Roy and Buck Trent play Dueling Banjos (both on the banjo). Roy won banjo competitions when he was young.
You can tell how proud roy is of him

Roy Clark played stringed instruments very well.
Roy Clark could play anything and I mean anything with strings.
Apparently! - Keith
Spectacular I've been waiting to see Keith's face when he saw this. Roy Clark was a virtue both so if it had strings he could play it and he could play it masterfully.
As many have/will comment, if it had strings, Roy could make it sing! (no lessons, just a self taught virtuoso!!)
Roy Clark could play any damn instrument with strings!
Loved the train and all the other little snippets he snuck in. That was fun!
Guitar, Fiddle and Banjo. Roy (much like Ricky Skaggs) can kill it on all 3. Of course Ricky's primary instrument is mandolin.
Thank you for this most excellent adventure! Love Roy Clark!💞
Last song played at the honkytonks. My husband always was on the dancefloor for it.
Love Roy Clark! That was just awesome! He can play several instruments and play them darn well!
I wonder where that kid is now?

"William Tell Overture".....By Glen Campbell....PLEASE!
Roy was good on anything with strings.
There's a video of Roy Clark on the Jimmy Dean show where he plays the guitar, banjo and fiddle. It's pretty good. Breath, fellas, breath.

The boy's last name is Hensley and he still plays. Roy plays this on banjo, too.
It is jimmy henley who has passed. I was thinking of Trey Hensley who still plays. Both are child prodigies.
