That Old man early in the recording is Roy Acuff. He was the Master of Ceremonies of the Grand Ole Opry for about 40 years from the 40's till the early 90's when he died.
This is distilled about 30 miles from where I live and I figured that you hadn't heard of it before. I sent the cookies and candy because I thought that if the liquor wasn't any good at least you'd have some good snacks.😅 I knew that you would love the music. The lemon cookies are some of my favorites,too. Also, Keith is right the way to say Vandalia. I'm glad that you enjoyed my bribe.😀
This song was the wrapup song of an album by the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band back in the late 70s. As I understand it, NGDB came to Nashville with the goal of making an album that honored the origins of country music and welcomed a lot of artists in to collaborate. It's a beautiful album and they did this song to wrap it up. This song is one that is done a lot as the encore when there are multiple artists putting on a show.
We sang this song in church back in the "old days." I'm a nurse heading to work, y'all made my day!!✌🏻

What a grouping of OG’s! About Levon Helm - he had a very noted career with music genres and movies. He was the drummer and a lead vocalist for The Band and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. But he was able to do country and bluegrass as well. Possibly you have heard him on The Band's version of “The Weight” or “The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down.” In movies, among others he also played the dad to Loretta Lynn in the movie “Coal Miner’s Daughter” and in “The Right Stuff” he played an Air Force Colonel Ridley who helped Chuck Yeager break the sound barrier.
Every one of these artists was a musical genius in their own right. I'm familiar with all of them and have so much respect. So many of them have left us. Thank you for reacting to this particular video and keeping these artists and traditional 'country' music alive.
My parents and grandparents ran Bluegrass festivals every weekend from May to September, and that was my life til I turned 15. As I watched this I came undone. There were soooo many Bluegrassers I knew/know in this video. I lost it when I saw the Crow Brothers. This song took me back 30 years. I watched it twice, just to reminisce. Made me miss the festivals and my parents and grandparents. 😢 I even miss my nickname...Pigtails.

Nitty Gritty Dirt Band did three of these albums. This performance is from the third. The first one was considered ground-breaking for the old school artists who participated. NGDB were from California, and were known as a country rock band like the Byrds or The Flying Burrito Brothers. So when they came to Nashville to do this album, there was a lot of the old school Nashville artists who weren't ready to embrace them. But NGDB wanted to make an album that showcased the bluegrass and first generation country music they all loved. They brought in some top notch session musicians like Vassar Clements and Junior Huskey. They were able to get Mother Maybelle Carter, considered to be the Matriarch of country music. Roy Acuff was a popular artist in the 40s and 50s and had become a big time music producer. He was originally contemptuous of "Long Haired California Boys" recording country music, but came to watch some sessions and realized they were there to give homage and for the joy of the music. He then relented and actually participated in some of the sessions. The first one was a mega seller and introduced a lot of young people to a type of music and a sound they had not heard. Many music experts credit the original Circle album to have revived interest in bluegrass and first generation country in the 70s.
This is actually from the 2nd Circle album of the trilogy. Roy Acuff had passed away by the 3rd album.
It's a gospel song, but it's also rooted very deeply in country music history going back to when the genre's first popular band, The Carter Family, sung it in the 1930's and it was a huge hit. Now it's a symbol of the unity of country musicians as one big family. Seeing this music video for the first time gave me chills and several of the greats in country music come together to sing one of its most cherished and iconic songs.
Yes definitely southern gospel song although this version had some noted bluegrass singers and musicians.
I was waiting for someone to mention the Carter Family as I have the Smithsonian Collection of history of country music & they are iconic on this song. It sounds very different here, tho!

This was a wonderful wonderful reaction guys. June Carter and the Carter sisters we're singing the harmonies. This is actually a signature song adopted by Johnny Cash mother may Bell and The Carter sister Carter family back in the early days when bluegrass was transitioning to country and they were going back and forth it's very complex relationship. Roy Acuff is one of the legends absolute Legends of country music in the Grand Ole Opry. Wonderful wonderful reaction. And I love Keith's reaction when he realized that was Chet Atkins on guitar.

A who's who of Bluegrass county. also Mark O'Conner the fiddle player is the gold standard and I would say most awarded fiddle player. he actually played fiddle for Charlie Daniels "devil came back to Georgia" and plays with Allison Krauss in Union Station amazing band with all members having individual Grammy's

YES! I was so thrilled when the notice for this came up. Growing up in church, I heard this song sang by a lot of people. Some of them talented. But this version, is hands down, the best I have ever heard.
The talent in this video is overwhelming. Vocal and instrumental talent.
As for the Pumpkin Spice Latte...there has never been a more disgusting drink, with the possible expectation of Eggnog. There's a small group of us white women that don't act like we've won the lottery when Pumpkin Spice Season rolls around.

This is the country version of we are the world that was written and produced by Michael Jackson and Quincy Jones. Love this more because of the amount of OG’s and the the amount of history in that room. 😊

The second gentlemen singing is Roy Acuff, a country legend.
Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash, along with The Statler Brothers, recorded a version of this song, but they added an additional chorus to it, and titled it Daddy Sang Bass. June's family, known best as The Carter Family, were the first to make it popular with the public, as a whole. The roots of the song is Gospel.
We are having an Earl Scruggs bluegrass festival in Shelby at the Earl Scruggs Center in the not ttoo distant future. It should be as good as the Bill Monroe festival that is held in the mountains every year.

Ooof... The song is the anthem of the Grand Ol' Oprey, and the primary hymn of the church of country music. It all began with that song and The Carter Family, of which Johnny Cash married into that family, so he was technically country royalty. Roy Acuff, the old man that was after him, he lead the Grand Ol' Oprey for decades, was a musician in his own right, and for a time was said to be the king of country music, or the very least, the face to represent it. Nitty Gritty Dirt band is a band like Alabama that was pretty big for a spell. Today, one of the kids of NGDB is a guitar player for Gary Allan (my fave), as well as the son of Steve Wariner who plays for Gary Allan. Michael M. Murphy had some hits in the 80s and is featured in the vid. The Scruggs family are LEGENDS in bluegrass. Ricky Skaggs is also a monster legend in bluegrass, and I'd say a virtuoso of stringed instruments, particularly banjo and mandolin. Emmylou Harris is the queen of bluegrass, and shares the title with Allison Krauss. Mark O'Connor is well known, usually with his band the Nashville Cats. Roseanne Cash is of course the daughter of Johnny and June Carter Cash, and had a string of hits of her own in the 80s and 90s. Jerry Douglas is a master of strings, and is/was part of Allison Krauss' band Union Station. Chet Adkins needs absolutely no introduction, because he is the guitar emperor of country music! Marty Stuart was the son-in-law of Johnny Cash while he was married to Roseanne Cash. He's kind of taken over the reigns of the Grand Ol' Oprey after Roy Acuff passed away.
Basically, that was a video of the greatest (then) living people in bluegrass and country music. It would have been a blessing to be a fly on the wall in that room!

This song is also a theme song for the Grand Ole Opry (if you check out some of the Opry's taped shows, this song is done routinely by country stars from all generations). In the Ryman there is a wood circle built into the stage and when downtown Nashville was being flooded in 2010, Opry's management and Brad Paisley spearheaded a plan to remove the circle from the stage and it was later installed back.

The recording of We Are The World took place in the Los Angeles area after the American Music Awards. I have never heard of Kenny Rogers even living in North Carolina.
When I was a teenager we would all meet at the park about 1 am and smoke weed and sing this song. I don’t know why, except we where high. Good times 😅

I had this CD back in the day. Emmylou does a song called "Mary Danced With Soldiers" that's one of the most haunting things I've ever heard. Nitty Gritty Dirt Band did a Volume 1 of this about a decade earlier that had all the real old time country stars like Mother Maybelle et al and it's like a time capsule of an amazing moment in country music.
Yes. This had everybody in the country and bluegrass and some rock royalty. Even had Chris Hillman and Right McGuinn from the Byrds. Took my dad to see Nitty Gritty back in the day. He was a fan because he had met Jeff Hannah and they talked cars one time for like a really long time. The love of classic cars and hot rods and good music.

Roy Acuff was one of the godfathers of country/western/bluegrass & the Grand Ole Opry. Started in the 1930s & built up the popularity of the Opry in the 40s. He became one if the premier music producers of Nashville.

One of the things I like about reaction channels, is that so many people have never heard the music I grew up on - an experience that was so shared/common that if some teenager in the car next to you at a traffic light was singing, you could select one of the two local rock AM channels and hear the song they were obviously singing along with. To muddy the water a bit, I also liked country and soul music. It was a little unbelievable at first to realize that some people had never heard The Beatles, Beach Boys, Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard, The Temptations, Four Tops, etc., but it's entertaining as heck to see people experience the musical treasures of my youth for the first time. It makes you both nostalgic, and envious. A shared joy. Y'all have fun and much success.

It's a great album. It's not bluegrass, it's mountain music from about 1929. Bluegrass was created by Bill Monroe in the late 1940's. This is roots music. Get the album. It's one of the greatest pieces of American music ever recorded. 1970 from the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band. Roy xcuff is the older man with grey hair. It's an amazing record. The song was written by the Carter Family. On the record Mother Maybelle Carter leads off this song.

Yes Johnny recorded it but the song is so old that it is the public domain.
Just a thought you should keep a list of all the bourbons you have tried in case someone wants to send you something it will be a new experience.
