New Cabin Air Filter with Carbon Element from 1AAuto.com 1aau.to/ia/DMCAF00002
This video shows you how to replace the cabin air filter in your 2007-2013 Chevy Silverado. Cabin air filters clean the outside air coming into your vehicle through the AC and Heat system. Like all other filters, they need to be replaced periodically. Check your filter at every oil change, or if you sense any strange or off-putting odors.
This process should be similar on the following vehicles:
2007 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
2008 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
2009 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
2010 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
2011 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
2012 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
2013 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Yes i was confused as well that there is no existing cabin filter. If your going to do this, I recommend getting a propane torch and heating the tip of the utility knife, this will make the cut much easier!
At first I thought It was going to be easy. Not so much. Why don't they make things easier for the consumers. Appreciate the video
Added the cabin filter to my 2007 Silverado 1500 today. I cut most of the plastic slot area with my Harbor Freight oscillating tool with a sharp sleel cutting blade. Then, clean up the area with the utility knife and pop out the plastic as shown in the video. Thanks for doing the video and, giving us the basics on the job 😎
I would like to note, since I just figured it out, that some 2006 models have the exact same setup. Thanks for posting this.
There isn’t even an air cabin filter to begin with? Then why say replacement? Why not just say add a air cabin filter to your vehicle?
I was excited for this project. I ordered the retrofit kit, retrieved my Dremel Multitool to cut into the plastic housing, removed the black kick-panel and almost immediately realized my 2013 Silverado LT 1500 4x4 was built with a different blower housing. Unfortunately there was no plastic blank to cut out. I’m bummed that I was not able to make this improvement. Will be sending back the retrofit. Total bummer. Just wanted to put it out there that GM used more than one blower housing on these trucks 😢
You were the only one that talked about cutting away door opening for first time filter install that was icredibly helpful!!
2007-2013 Silverados were made without cabin air filters because they were made them with a plastic mesh or similar covering that was meant to not be replaced or removed.
I don't understand. If ur truck has a plastic piece there and it doesn't need a cabin air filter. Y put one? Help me understand.
This video was very helpful. I had to do the same thing you did on my 2012 GMC Sierra Denali 1500 . Your right about taking your time cutting out the hole for the filter. Everything went well, no problems . Thank You so much 😊😊😊😊😊😊
Soooo, GM, in their infinite fkng wisdom...... actually engineered the air system to accept a cabin filter. Then completely sealed off the filter slot so it couldn't have a filter? This is so the way GM does things.
I have an 2008 gmc dually but my hvac box is different from all the videos I've seen for the retrofit,my hvac box where the filter is supposed to go is a molded one piece section
This video came just in time.
My think is, why would any vehicle manufacturer not put a cabin air filter in a vehicle?! You wouldn’t have a house ac system without a filter, this should be the same thing
Do you have a part number for the door you installed?
Perfect job for a multi tool, which is what I used
I bought the Dorman kit. I must say it’s a brittle filter that breaks up when you bend it to install. I don’t know if a GM filter for earlier trucks that had a cabin air filter were flexible, but that’s what’s needed for this location.
What is the wiring module right beside to the right , with the green , white and red wires ,, bolted right next to the filter slot. ??
Did this help with the air flow throught the vents cause my air flow sucks I changed the blower motor and resistor and now I'm to this before I go towards the climate control module and I don't think I need the module it seems like something is clogging my air flow and some people did this and they said it helped alot so I'm just asking around if it made it better
Hello, my Silverado C 2500 2007 has the area where the filter would go solid shot, and it did not have the lid. so the space to receive the filter is there, unless I would have to cut the area so I could place the filter. Thanks.
Gracias, checare mi silverado 2009 para ponerle filtro de cabina
So what about the plastic mesh inside of the box? Doesn't it defeat the purpose of adding an additional filter if the mesh is dirty?
Is there an rpo code to know whether you have it already or not my truck is an 08 silverado
Great video. It certainly helped me with the retrofit/installation in my 2012 Sierra. Thank you for creating & posting.
One question... The filter(s) I've seen do not have a direction indicated on them. And I've seen them placed either way in the videos I've watched. Is it safe to assume the filter doesn't have a specific direction?
If so, I'd just like to mention that I found it easier to fold/roll the filter with the cuts facing the passenger side. (Opposite of what's shown in your video.)
Thanks again for posting. 🙂👍
Where can I find the lit the you put for cover??
Thank you for this video. This has to be by far the dumbest design I have seen for a cabin filter. Fiats are easier to change! Insanity. If there was no filter to begin with why install one?
the floor / carpet is wet /passenger side...can the water get in through this location? I've never done the cabin air filter replacement task ! I was shocked to see there is not a Factory installed filter ?!!? How i'll proceed to find the water source ? Hmmm? any suggestions's? "2008" Silverado ....
You are right Y even replace if there is none to replace
If one was never in there why add one. And then how do you clean the coil ?
Okay this is a retrofit this is not a replacement, now I know why my dealership said that there was no cabin air filter on my truck......
Was that a drywall screw?!?
Different countries have different specifications and option requirements. It's cheaper for the manufacturer to mold the box as a sealed unit and form the access panel if the option list calls for it. I once had a brand new small dodge car that had the access panel but did not come with a cabin filter pre-installed. I had to buy the filter and install it myself.
+Grimm Reaper Thanks for the feedback! 1aau.to/m/Shop-TRQ
De donde sacaste la tapadera ya que instalaste el filtro
When you buy a filter does it come with the door?
Where do i find a lid for the filter after i cut or the blank?
Mine does not even have the thing to cut or a place to put a new screw what do I do now?
So I followed all the directions and was lost, so I took my 2011 Silverado aka “truckasauars” to the GM dealer and low and behold, some models did not come with an air cabin filter.
+C mc Thanks for the tip! 1aau.to/m/Shop-TRQ
Mine is my glovebox. 2007 Chevy Silverado 1500 Classic.
Mine feels clogged. Adding a filter isn't going to help me. I need to clean the evaporator now?
Thanks!!!!
I did this with a heat gun & a $2.00 utility knife from Walmart. Ain’t no way I’d be able to cut that out without heating the plastic first. Evaporator was dirty. I’ll have to clean that next time I change the filter.
Every vehicle with an HVAC system (ie every vehicle) should have a cabin air filter. Is this just GM cutting corners?
So, they come with no cabin filter?
Cómo vas a poner el filtro nuevo ese vídeo no sirve
Donde esta el filtro biejo
This means that all the dust was collected into the condenser panel😢😢
Every cabin air filter should be easy like Hondas why Chevy do us like this 😂😭
Screw that! If it doesn't have a factory installed one why bother?
I’m confused. How is this a replacement?
La mía ya no trae la tapa
Y el filtro no se ve el que sacaste
My 2009 Chevy Silverado 3500 HD does not have this. Why is mine different? It's a 2009 Chevy Silverado.
+mrfrostbite2020 The 2009 Chevy Silverado 3500HD models without a cabin air filter will typically use a plastic mesh that prevents leaves or other foreign objects from entering the HVAC system.
The filter under the hood is all that needs changing..
So this is why I smell every Joe shmos hooptie with an exhaust leak in the cab?? They don’t come with one ?!
So ... Is what I am seeing here correct? That there IS NO FILTER from the manufacturer?
+Retired Person The is correct. Some model vehicles did not come with a cabin air filter from the factory, but are able to be added as shown in the video.
Chevy avalanche nice truck but there is always a but why but why would you design a airbox knowing that you have to put a filter 🤔 😳 completely sealed 🤔 what was wrong with the old design had a door to it 🤔 what were they thinking I see why yall are in the mess yall are in 👌 👏 thx a hole helleva lot my god
you really need to update the title as it misleads one to think it is for all Silverados, not just the 1500s. I have a 2012 2500 and this video does not seem to apply.
If it don't come with one..why add one...evidently it's not needed
Not even bother with that missing screw? Fired!😅
si no lo tiene original es mejor no ponerle nada
GM gets an F for not installing a filter in the first place. Why create a housing without a filter. You get an A for making the video but I have to give you an F for fictional content in a documentary. It was way harder than you made it look.
Why the rubber gloves?
Why there isn’t filter from the factory I’ve been filtrating the air with my lungs all this time
That is the DUMBEST SETUP EVER
$50000 truck with such a stupid set up. Honestly just make two cips Chev. How cheap cam you get!
Very poor engineering. Shame on GM.
Typical American vehicle shit makes no sense. There is no filter in the place where you put the filter, then you have to cut the plastic out, to put a filter in... then use a wood screw to secure it... what a joke. I changed a suzuki air filter today.... it was so easy 5 minute job
