The homestead is looking absolutely beautiful. It's difficult to understand how Autumn could not be anyone's favorite season. The variety of Fall foliage is set against the backdrop of majestic mountains. A picture painted with care by God.
Trust in God and be blessed
Absolutely!
Good day beautiful family...
Such a beautiful place you have.. more people need to get grounded into the earth and feeding their families .
God Bless you all
Good morning my friend!
I love to slice & pickle my peppers 🌶️ and do a little sweet pickle brine for the banana peppers. I put some in 1/2 pt. to give as Xmas gifts 🎁 the banana peppers are great size for a “Mississippi Pot Roast”!! Love the new editions to the homestead. Can’t wait to see them grow ❤ going to finally venture out into garden today to see what survived 😂 y’all have a blessed weekend ❤❤
I may have to try this!!
Once I have all the peppers I want frozen, picked, etc; I put all that's left, green- red- hot- sweet, thru the dehydrator and grind them all up together in my own custom chili powder. It's different every year but always delicious.
Great idea!!
Prayers for rain!
You can dehydrate red sweet peppers to make paprika, smoked sweet peppers make smoked paprika. When jalapeños turn red, I make chili powder.
Now that was teamwork on that fence. I jut love your channel, you guys are so down to earth.
Thank you!!
I couldn't be a homesteader, no way I could raise my calves then process them. I'm glad that you are self sustainable. I'd have to be a vegetarian, all I could see is those sweet little faces. I love how you will tackle anything ❤❤. I'm so glad I found your channel
Awe poor little babies I love the little black and white calf it’s so pretty
i'm glad to see you going through the garden one last time I see so many people leave good food to die in the garden. Love your videos you keep it real.
Thank you!
Guinea fowl are fantastic watch dogs.. very smart and protective
Yes they are!
pepper rings in vinegar~! yum
Love the Jersey cow saw a lot of them growing up. Jersey matters and cows yum
String up your extra peppers like you do green beans. I used to dry them that way. Have a blessed weekend yep we got down to 20 the other night in SC mountains. ❤🙏🌹
Great idea!
Cut your peppers the way you like to eat the m . Put them into freezer bags and free them. You can also freeze onions the same way. Frozen into hot butter and cook them up. Enjoy !
John S.
I just want to say how much I'm enjoying your all's channel so much, and by the way we didnt have any rain in September or October not much rain here at all this whole year in SC,well y'all have a blessed day 🙂💐
Been pretty dry in my part of SC, that's for sure. Usually, we'd have had a good soak or three these last couple months, but rains have been a bit scarce. If I remember my almanac right, that means there'll be a good snow this winter.
I don’t care for collard greens but I love mustard greens
For your peppers See Garden Like A Viking channel title : Homemade Smoked Paprika/Peppers - The Flavor Is Incredible!
Sounds great!
This is the way to live. I grew up in NC and I remember similar experiences. I now live in Colorado . I couldn’t wait to leave NC which was many many years ago but now that I’m older I realize how lucky I was to experience my childhood. I love your farm it’s just beautiful.
Thank you!
Good afternoon GOD Bless besafe ❤️🌹🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏 love your ch
Good morning!
If you've got a good amount of hot peppers mix them and bell peppers, ferment for a week or two, blend well and you have hot sauce. My husband looooves this hot sauce. The ferments keep in the fridge for over a year.
Great idea! I may give this a try!
Stuffed pepper. Cheese, ground beef, crab meat. I made some jalapeño peppers stuffed with different veggies sautéed in butter then battered and deep fried. Yummy!
Thanks for sharing your videos.
Your little girl is just as cute as she can be
thank you
You can wash the jalapeno peppers put them in a pint jar, you fill the jar with vinegar and they will keep in the frig.
I’ll be giving this a try! Thank you!
Last year I stuffed a bunch of my jalepenos for poppers and vacuum sealed them and stuck them in the freezer. It was awesome to just be able to take them out frozen and put them in the oven already stuffed . Convenience food at it's best ! I will doing a lot more this year .
cute little guys 🐄🐮
Good morning what I do with end of summer peppers is I put up in the freezer for meals in winter. Last a long time in the freezer. With the rest of the vegetables I can vegetables soup. Kids love it on a cold day
Sounds great!
Love the cows! Your garden is lovely!❤xo
Thank you!
Great calves!
The weather here in west TN has been brutal this year with no rain most of the year and now just went from low 80s to high 20s and about to go back to low 80s.
This cold is about a month early and really blistered my summer crops out, which I usually would still be able to get harvests up to Thanksgiving and beyond most years.
Really enjoy y'alls videos and this one still made me HUNGRY!
FUTURE BEEF!
I just see fresh tomato and pepper Chow Chow too!
You can grind up those dried peppers and make jalapeño powder.
Very sweet babies..
I'm new to the channel, it is beautiful and productive. I'm always learning new things. Thank you so much.
Welcome!
My fave is cowboy candy and pepper sauce.😊
Your weather is like mine here in Illinois. We have had lows in the 20's this week, but this morning it was in the 40's. Those calves are adorable! Last year I tried an experiment with a couple potatoes. I put them in the ground before the first frost and left them in all winter. Once the temperature started to get warm, they started to grow, and these were just store-bought potatoes. That could be something you could try there also, except this year you were blessed with so many potatoes, you may not need anymore. I turned some of my peppers into a powder and use it to flavor some things. My husband doesn't like chunks of peppers, but he doesn't mind the flavor.
Ohhh powder is a great idea!!! And that’s good to know about the potatoes we may have to give that a try!
We just had our first light frost here in Eastern NC. I had to pick all of my green tomatoes, will be putting up some green tomato pie filling, but the butter beans and Whippoorwill southern peas seem to have come through okay.
I try not to grow an over abundance of hot peppers as my husband doesn't care for them, but a couple years ago my cayennes went crazy so I made up some fermented hot sauce as an experiment. It worked better than my attempts at sauerkraut.
Cowboy candy and dried peppers!
I make relish from green tomatoes, peppers and onions. Goes great with pinto beans. Basic recipe is 3 cups of vinegar, 2 cups of sugar and a T of mustard seed. Make up the volume you need, and bring to a boil. Chop veggies and add to hot liquid, reduce heat and simmer 15 minutes. Pack in jars and water bath for 15 minutes.
Sounds great!
I had to use “tough love” with one of my hens who kept leaving the chicken yard in late afternoon to sleep in the woods. She would come back every other day but preferred to be a loner and I couldn’t catch her so had to let her go. Unfortunately I haven’t seen her for a few weeks.
Listen LOVE 💕 you're land beautiful 😍❤️ not to tell is Sommer love it besaf and GOD Bless ❤️🌹❤️🌹❤️🌹❤️🌹🙏🙏🙏🙏
Pepper poppers, relish
i wished i was close to you i would come get some of those peppers to make my cowboy candy
I am in East Tennessee and the last 2 nites the low was 24 degrees.
Congratulations on your new editions.
I love to make pickled peppers
My neighbor pickles hers stuffed w sauer kraut. I havent tried them yet but she raves of their deliciousness
Interesting, I’ve never herd of this, but I bet it’s delicious!
LOVE this family 💕❤️🌹🙏🙏🙏
Thank you!
Those are some beautiful calves y'all got and you had quite a good last harvest. You are right about it being dry Andy. I just came in from mowing leaves a while ago and I was covered in dust. I bet those potatoes would be great cooked in with those green beans.
Pepper jelly great with beans and corn bread
The 2 hogs we are eating on right now my granddaughters wanted to name so we called them bacon and pork chop lol the one I am raising now is named sausage
Love it
I dried extra peppers to grind & mix with the chicken feed. Even if the chickens don’t eat it, the rodents should stay out of it.
Great idea!
August the third was four inches plus here where I live in Alexander county,,since then I have had three tenths of an inch total rain fall ,,i sowed half acre of winter peas and quarter acre of turnip ,mustard , and lettuce and I have had to water all of them 11 times on each spot but have a beautiful knee deep stand of greens n peas now. Ohhhh and if y’all want some greens come to my house ,,I live behind apple city bbq ,,lorene memorial drive ,,free
Thanks for the offer my friend!! I’m giving them away too, we have way to many for just us!
@@TrueGritAppalachianWays I do it for the deer
I chop and freeze my extra peppers. They get used in soups/stews and on eggs. Probably some other things as well.
Great idea!
I am also going to be working in the garden this weekend and get things buttoned up. My tomatoes still have some on them, and I need to find sheets for my orange trees. Love your videos, Meagan.🥰
Thank you!
String them up to dry.
Can putrpwcovers on and it will grow better😊
Love your blog ❤❤❤
Thank you 😊
Make some taco salsa or make spaghetti sauce with the peppers
I love sweet banana pepper and I don't care for hot anything I love sweet pickles also
Pickle the peppers
Its the most requested type of canned peppers 🌶
Hot or mild your choices
I even put pepper flakes in the brine
I’m going try and ferment my peppers so I can make sriracha chili sauce,, lol the main word is try!!!
Peppers are an ingredient in Dr. Schultz's Super Tonic! *Recipe can be found online. I have been making this for decades and now our daughters make it for their families.
Will check it out!
Make salsa or just put up with vinegar to enjoy with greens, beans etc ( jalapeño suggestions)
Thats a good way of thinking concerning your chickens. To many people on CZcams to ME baby the farm animals. Im not saying you don't protect, care, treat your animals humanly but a lot of folks have zoo animals. I just can't see raising chickens just for eggs and then you go buy chicken from the store or a organic source. Crazy to ME!!
Yes I agree!! They baby those animals, most our animals here have a job to do. They are very well taken care of but I’ll be dag on if I go put up a chicken that gets out every single day that can’t figure out how to fly back in. In doing so we have a good flock now that pretty much stay in and do what they are meant to do
@@TrueGritAppalachianWays 👍😊
Hi there.. Great video as usual, Thankyou. Perhaps you could make stuffed peppers. God bless.
@helenazoga1487 could I freeze them stuffed?
You asked what to do with the peppers…..
I had a bunch one year, and took them and made season salt…..
Dehydrate the jalapeños till crispy.
Put in a blender and blend in to a power.
Then 2 to 1/2 measuring……
Ex…
Cup of jalapeño powder
1/2 cup garlic powder
1/2 cup onion powder
1/2-3/4 cup kosher salt
Is a base
From there you could do chili power, paprika, cummin, etc…
Note:::: when/if you blend the jalapeños
DO IT OUT SIDE…..
And with the wind to your back.
Or you will sneeze for 3 days
Measurements can be tinkered around with.
I had 5 2 1/2 gallon ziplock bags of jalapeños, after dehydration and adding garlic, onion and salt, I had a Parmesan cheese jar just over 3/4 full…..
Got the idea from another page they called it “Texas gunpowder “
Awesome, thank you for the idea!!
I live in central Mississippi and I live in an apartment so I can’t grow anything unless I grow it in a flower pot
You can refer to them little soon to be steers as the BEEFY BOYS
Have you heard of "Flash Collars"?
No I sure haven’t
Why don't you harvest the marigolds petals for soap or ointments. Even just to sell? Also if you dry your sweet potato greens you can add them to soups to add a lot of nutrients. Or sell.
Great idea!
..megan honey..i swear as a young woman of your early years is amazing..at my 70's i dont many men today do half as much..
..ok..i am in the city and dont see any but one or two men work as hard....
I like to make pepper relish. Its good for hot dogs, soup Beans, tater salad. Do you ever make dilly beans? They are great to snack on or use similar to a pickle. Those spoon tomatoes would be perfect to put up with mozzarella cheese balls in olive oil. I love that with fresh basil with toasted french bread or to make bruschetta. Nice nice garden . I also planted fingerlings. I love to roast them in the oven rubbed with fresh garlic olive oil and oregano . The skin gets so crispy. Yummmm
Looks so good guys but lawdy yall that's a lotta work. Get it while your young. Lol
What do u do with your comfrey? I have never used that.
We mainly use it as a fertilizer "chop and drop" method for our trees, we also feed it to our animals, and I make salve from it.
@@TrueGritAppalachianWays nice.I should probably read my survival on foraging book to learn more about that.
Chow Chow
Very good video. Thank y’all for sharing. How much land do y’all have roughly
Right at our house we have about 18acres, then about a mile away we have another 10 ☺️
T Bone is an excellent name for a calf🎉🎉🎉🎉❤ f j b😊😊
We named one Sir Loin!
This is always the saddest day for me.😂
❤❤❤
How about pepper relish or stuffed pepper soup
Never heard of stuffed pepper soup, I’m definitely going to look that up!
What do you do with dried comfrey megan
I make comfrey infused oil and comfrey salve. I don’t have much time to make it when it’s actually growing so I like to dry it and make it in the winter months
Do you ever feed your cows silage?
No that’s not something we’ve ever really done, we’ve talked about giving it a try tho
What can you make with mint I know people say that mosquitos don’t like mint and I think they said the lady bugs don’t like it
I enjoy making mint tea it is delicious
How do you keep owls and hawks from getting them
we really think the quinines help scare them away
How high is your raised beds and how long
they are 4ft by 8ft height on them varies they're roughly 2-3ft high
Make hot sauce out of the peppers
You know what, I made some a few years ago and had forgot all about it! I believe I may just do that!! Thank you for the reminder!
Donate them to a food pantry
❤🙏🙋🙂
I was wondering as to what you use comfy for?
I dry it and make comfrey infused oil, I also make comfrey salve ☺️ I don’t have much time to do it when the comfrey is actually growing so I like to save some for the slower winter months
Could you do a video on how you make these things? I have some dried comfrey and I'm not sure how to use it.
Sure!! May be sometime this winter but I’ll sure do it!
It would be great for you to show us how to do that. I'll be watching!
You should get your wife a straw panama, everybody looks good in a straw hat 🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤ f j b 😊😊😅
Grow friend kits unavailable
Oh no!!! I hope they will be back in stock soon because they really are a wonderful kit.
Why do u grow sooooo many tomatoes if you're not a tomato person? Do u only like them cooked? I Can't Wait for that first mater of the year. Mater sandwich yea buddy!!
Andy doesn't care for raw tomatoes, but I can lots and lots of different tomato products like ketchup, chow chow, tomato sauce, canned tomatoes, tomato juice all kinds of stuff :)
