I live in Central IL and it's so cool to know you are in my state! This week at the college I work the Farm Progress Show is going on this week. When you talk about the heat, I know exactly which days you were talking about. It was so hard to breathe outside on those days. Living in Illinois, we do get these hot and humid days more than I care for. So glad you guys got to come to my state.

Just one thing I wanted to mention. The s in Illinois is silent. That land is dark, black and rich. That and the flat land is why millions of acres are farmed. Most small family farms are hundreds of acres in the midwest. You'll miss the mountains after being away just a few days. You can grow such a diverse number of plants in our temperate rainforest of Appalachia. I had the food fortune to be raised in the midwest while still keeping strong family ties in Appalachia. Winters out there are long and gray with some bitter cold. When military retirement rolled around we settled on purchasing my grandparents Appalachian farm instead of the midwest. Did you you see Pete from Just A Few Acres Farm? He restores a lot of Farmall tractors on you tube in the winters. His farm is in the Ithica, NY area. He restored his great grandparents Victorian house on his farm. It's an amazing story and labor of love. He has a couple videos on it.
Temps are usually in the 90's and they do see some triple digits some years come August out there in that area of the midwest.
    Glad ya'll had fun!

We went to Old Fort NC last week and stayed in a cabin at the top of Gateway Mountain, the population there and the town was so much smaller than here. We loved it so much that I’m looking for unrestricted land to buy in the NC mountains now so we can park our camper on it and stay there on the weekends for now..then build a house there to live in after we retire. It looked like an awesome adventure for everyone. It's great seeing all the old and new machines. I was amazed at the massive size of some of the tillers. Please excuse my ignorance, I noticed that a lot of the tractors and such let off black smoke which I guess is from diesel. I hate to sound like an environmental freak but doesn't the chemicals from the smoke fall back down onto the soil. I realize it may be the most efficient way to work the land. Did y'all happen to see if anyone was creating new machines that could run cleaner?
I'm like y'all in that I extremely dislike the way society is turning more and more rural areas urban. I think people may have romanticized life in the country and when they found out it wasn't as simple as they thought, instead of moving back to urban areas they brought the urban amenities to themselves. I have to be careful of that myself because I believe I want to move out to southwestern Virginia. I know I need to do research on all the good and bad points.
When y'all were talking about endless fields of corn and how it looked like an ocean made me think of cotton fields. Every year when I was younger we would go down to Mississippi to visit relatives. While down there we would see miles and miles of cotton. It almost looked like freshly fallen snow.
Thank you for sharing this video. May God bless you and keep you.
