If you say never repair they will still maintain the current order for repair. You have to cancel it, that is the icon with: 2 wrenches that cross each other, and a red "X" in the left bottom corner, at the far right on the ships' bar. If you click that and accept it, they won't go to repair, but go for their given order.
Also, if you change a lot of dockyards to repair role, they will repair faster any more ships. They will still produce ships as they should, just they will instead repair when there are ships to repair.

@Taureor, it might seem super un-obvious, but shift-right clicking a port with ships highlighted will change the naval base of the ships, which in turn will more or less "forcing" the ships to the desired naval base.
The easiest way to do naval supremacy with ships with minimum management is
    1. Merge ships
    2. Get military access if not enough naval range
    3. Move ships to desired port by shift-right click
    4. Balance ship
    5. Set to no repair AND no retreat
    6. Patrol areas need to be the same amount or lower than the total "forces".
    7. Set to patrol if enough oil, naval invasion supp if not.
    8. ???
    9. Profit!

Taureor and naval management is pretty funny - usually fully in control. Poor Taureor. If you start doing medium lobbying efforts from the beginning (before picking a focus) and chain them, along with chaining farm subsidies when they unlock, you'll never have congress issues. Also, conscription act + guarantee the american dream + attache to china gives you 50% war support and you can go straight to partial mob very early. Always best to beeline for the foci that reduce great depression, since there's the legislation delay.

Taureor submarines have a much longer range than other ships. Make a task force of only submarines next time and the range thing wont be a problem. Also for death stacks with capitol ships it's much better to put them on strike force not patrol. They'll only go out when there's a fight and there's a much lower chance of losing valuable ships to enemy air.

I don't necesarilly love the gold standard, but if you have any sort of savings and realize that the government is gradually stealing them by just printing more money, it does sting a bit. The gold standard may not be perfect, but the current fiat currency system just drains the middle class of savings

    • @TheMonkeystick
      @TheMonkeystick Před 3 lety +2

@@Taureor That's a fair grievance. Not being able to keep your savings in a liquid form is annoying, especially since I like to keep half a year's income/a full year's expenditure as an emergency fund. The gold standard swings too far in the other direction though- as wealth in a country increases due to increases in industrialization and technology, the inability to increase the currency supply causes deflation. Even under the gold standard, countries would end up having to redefine the exchange price of gold (the gold standard) to inflate their currencies, leading to sudden spikes of inflation rather than a gradual curve that a well managed fiat currency produces. And if you end up just increasing the gold standard every day or week to achieve an ideal inflation rate that correlates with your economic growth, then you might as well just use a fiat currency that's well managed.
Generally though, deflationary policies tend to benefit the already wealthy. While wealthier working class people (middle class) might see a marginal benefit from preserving their savings, extremely wealthy actors will see stupendous gains due to loans paying off even more. That's why many banks championed the gold standard, and why it's generally seen as a more right-wing position in the US. The canonical example in these time periods would be farmers vs bankers. Many family farms rely on loans to purchase seed crops, which they would then pay back with the excess of their harvest (usually just enough to cover costs on a good day). Easing up the gold standard would increase inflation, which would counteract some of the debt that those farmers accrued purchasing their seed crops. This also applies to many US middle class families that rely on mortgages to afford housing. Inflation over 30 years adds up a lot to making a house more affordable.
The downside to inflation is that wages have been stagnant, a fact that is obscured by inflation rates. Although, on paper, median American wages have slightly increased over the last 40 years, in terms of real income and purchasing power they have significantly decreased. Deflation doesn't couteract this, either- employers may be mighty hesitant to increase wages in the face of inflation without pressure from regulators or unions, but are more than happy to cut wages in the face of nominal profit loss due to deflation, and are perfectly able to use that nominal decrease to justify it as they have used the nominal wage stagnation and slight increase to justify cutting real wages.

For U.S. Navy... - they are short on Light cruisers, you need to build them... doesn't matter what, just so long as you have spotter planes. Will get back to that... The Navy is actually really easy, and once you figur it out, it's no different than choosing your starting research slots when you get to know the game. So, for the U.S., they have fifteenth battleships, and equal number of heavy cruisers, and 3 carriers, and I think 12 light cruisers, plus an crap load of destroyers. Split your battleships into groups of 5, with 5 heavy cruisers, 4 light cruisers ( add 6 more ideally, though you can get away with this realistically. ) and 20 destroyers and assign them a good admiral. I choose Halsey, Nimitz, and someone else, I forget. Guy with good traits... (King has the blockade runner trait, which makes the fleet more likely to retreat, good for convoys, bad for fleets...). And here is where you NEED more light cruisers. Spotting fleets. I use 1 light cruisers and 4 destroyers. (Think if it as the 7-2 of spotting fleets, except it still works...) make sure the light cruisers is the best it can be, and has spotting planes. Give them to a guy who has a spotting trait, and set to 'do not engage' if they are tier II cruisers of less and you don't have a lot. Or you can have them engage if they are good, as they can be quite useful if you can afford an occasional loss... Set these spotting cruiser to patrol in specific zones, and your battleships to strike in the same zones, and you have a winning formula. The AI never builds capital ships, (except the U.S. and France for some reason, but they build tier 1, 2, or 3 battleships, and always with tier 1 engines every 5 years or so, and not in every game. Idek why they bother.) But it's not hard to beat superior quantity fleets with less numbers. 6 tier 2 battleships with 4 carriers, 10 heavy cruisers and 20 destroyers playing s Germany will beat the British Navy every time. All naval doctrines are pretty good actually, again, the Ai ignores these focuses generally, so it doesn't matter what you get. It will always be an advantage. Base strike is probably the weakest though unless you truly focus on carriers. I feel like writing all this out makes it sound complicated... 🤣 It's really no harder than the rest of the game. If you can figure out the rest, you can figure out the Navy.

Also, subs, subs work great in 5's, 8', and 10's. I find 8's to be ideal. NY admiral you assign will get xp quick, as subs get used alot. The trick here is to of course, tell them to auto reinforce (as with all fleets), and auto split - off (DO NOT EVER DI THIS WITH YOUR STRIKE FLEETS. Battleships, carriers, and heavy cruisers will die fast this way... The Ai does this, and I makes things super easy. It's on by default... planes and subs will kill these ships fast without escorts. Set your fleets to medium repair priority (default) and do not split off, (button next to it - use Google... not default and important) your subs however are at an advantage by themselves, so auto split off is ideal. If one gets damaged, the rest continue, and it returns quick because it's a sub. Also, don't bother with tier 1's, they're worthless and you can still spam out enough tier 2's to get naval supremecy on any AI. And they're actually decent at convoy raiding while not dying so fast. Tier III's are the best overall however. Tier IV is expensive, and isn't a significant enough upgrade against the AI to be worth it. 50 subs is good enough, 80 is a target goal, 100 is ideal, anything above is a massacre. And you get ALOT of division kills from AI shuffling around divisions through the sea. It can add up extremely fast. Especially with Japan or the U.K.
