    I change things around about 5 times per year…the four seasons and Christmas. When my husband was alive he would say, “The great migration has begun! Change the rugs, change the pillows, just keep the husband!” At first it made him a little uneasy, but after the second year he started looking forward to the surprises. He said if it was up to him he’d throw a pizza on the wall, call it a picture be done with it! Such a good sport in so many ways.

    Love the new location for the settee. Don’t we all imagine how we would arrange furniture if we lived in the house we are admiring? I would move the other Dad chair from the kitchen to the parlor. Take out the banquet table and Mom chair. Use the banquet just as a side seat. Put a long and narrow dining table in the middle centered on your beautiful rug with six country style dining chairs (or incorporate your 2 original dining chairs from the parlor into the six). This will give you a dinning room and it will be useful often and not relegated to its own room. The banquet would be a nice seating nook. I would not have a tv in the cabinet. Maybe open the cabinet and use it for storage and display. Your mom and dad seating is now on each side of the fireplace in the parlor. I might even go so far as putting a tall narrow bar table behind the couch in the family room as sofa table and moving the kitchen stools into the family room to use with the bar table. Just my arrangements for living in your home and not in anyway critical or offensive.

  • @auntb6817
    @auntb6817 Před 5 měsíci +6

    Front parlor looks fantastic! As someone else suggested, I would move the dining table to center on the rug, and have chairs all around for traditional seating. Personally, I would remove the banquet completely and replace with a great storage buffet cabinet. You have to make your space for you, but the table situated the way it is currently doesn’t look right. Very off balance.

    I fix myself a pot of tea each day. December thru February, I use a burgundy and gold ceramic pot. March thru August, I use a couple of flowered ones. September thru November, I use a Hall teapot in cream and warm fall colors. I also change out the decor on my living room, dining room, and foyer tables - mainly antique glassware. Of course, the flowers in my vases reflect what I have growing in the garden- hellebores, daffodils, hydrangeas, etc. It's fun and a refreshing change!

    I love your dining room table, really do love it. However, I just keep "seeing" a round table in this location with another "Mom" chair. I know you probably don't want to hear that but from the first day you revealed this, I just keep thinking about a round table in there. I absolutely love a banquette in any area of a home and really would like to incorporate one in mine but have no place for one. I just think a round table would be charming. Your thoughts?

    I love BOTH styles of furniture placement; last year and now....can't go wrong with neither, its nice to rotate. I can see why the change...beautiful windows to view the sunshine or rain in your lovely garden...got to to have comfy seating in the winter to stare and dream into the gardens or while working on the computer on the banquet table! Also noticed your blue plates in kitchen rack and stunning bowl at the mixer. Love the blue books on the mantel....we are kindred spirits in so many ways!

    Boy have you embraced the blue aesthetic in your home. I love blue and white , and have blue as an anchor is most rooms of my home. Only my bedroom has creams with touches of oxblood red. I am turning 74 this year and have eaten 2 eggs every morning for 50 years. I do love eggs with a sprinkle of fresh parmesan or slices of avocado. And toasted sourdough with avocado is one of my favorite lunches. Or sourdough toast with egg salad and dill. I wanted to try the Marukuna honey , but it was not in my budget when I found it in my grocery store. But it sure looks yummy. BTW... how do you keep your collars popped... mine always fall down.

    You asked about seasonal interior decorating. I have 4 Rubbermaid tubs for each season for a total of 16 in my basement. My home is just under 900 square feet and the tubs’ contents are distributed throughout entire house. Winter theme is snowmen and silver branches, spring is rabbits and blooms, summer is beach and vintage sand pails, fall is pumpkins and leaves and Christmas is reindeer and holly. I have lived in same tiny cottage since 1975 and always with big dogs.

    On the subject of unseasonably warmer weather, I live in northern Canada beside Alaska, which is famous for the Klondike Gold Rush. February is typically our coldest month. It’s common for our temps to be around -46 Celsius which would be somewhere around -50 Fahrenheit. This entire month we’ve been steadily around -6 which for you would be around 21 Fahrenheit. I’ve lived here for ten years and never seen the weather like this. It’s glorious but I do wonder what the summer will be like up here in the land of the midnight sun.

    Spring is slow here in mid-Atlantic, its been wet, which I am very grateful for, especially after drought last summer/fall. Our rain last evening was mixed with snow, my husband said it was snowing snowballs. Big ole flakes! But daffodils are up, not blooming, and I see buds on tree, but no flowering shrubs, other than camellias. But I would not call it a mild winter, we had very low temperatures for a week or two, but mostly normal for the rest, which is totally fine with me, I have gotten a lot of work done in the yard this winter, building rock walls and such. But your temperatures are CRAZY. I pray that isn't a precursor of what is to come for you. FILL THOSE RAIN BARRELS! All have a great week.

    I actually have that book The Laws of Power. I bought it when I was working and that was probably back in the mid-90s when I believe it was first published. It really does come in handy when you want to use it as a reference

    I liked the room before BUT i like how you have it arranged now alot too. Really anything you do in your home & yard always looks beautiful. I love the idea of the smell of the hyacinth greeting your guest. I love how they smell & was shocked recently when talking to a friend of mine about spring bulbs, tulips etc & she said hyacinth were stinky (I WAS SHOCKED that anyone would think that). I love love them.

    Oh Linda so fun learning about your skin care routine. I have been looking into products and found them so cost prohibitive i just sighed and went to do something else...lol. I just ordered all of those products and am looking forward to beginning a routine I can feel good about. (The niacin zinc was not showing up so i typed in an alternative and chose another option). I am looking forward to Spring, but this is waaay too early. Here in Minnesota we have had so little snow all winter so far... a brown winter.

    Ha ha...I literally switched things up around here just today! I replaced all my dried hydrangeas with some faux green ivy stems in most of my vessels. I have lots of real plants too, but these were free and very realistic looking! I added in a lot of soft greens and blues around the house. 🙂

    My skincare is similar to yours. I also use retin a at night. Also once a month have A skin tight laser treatment. I've started using castor oil on my hands and feet. I do change things up in my home. I have a love of blue and white.

    Thanks for the great tips on serums. I’ve been using a vitamin C serum and have liked the results. I really like the great prices on the ones you shared.

    I definitely like to switch things! Darker colors and cozy throws, for example, are good for chilly weather, but not so much Spring/Summer. And I'm very "picky" about flowers. I do use some faux ones, and make sure they're "correctly seasonal". Also I get full sun in front of my house where there are huge, tall windows in the living room I may want to avoid later in the day if we have extra-warm weather.

    I am 78 and have very good skin, especially for my age. My dermatologist told me I did not need to exfoliate because the way I'm cleansing my face is enough. Your skin does get a lot thinner as you age. So, even if you do it gently, it may not be necessary at all. Linda is younger than me, so she can probably do more. Love those facial razors, though!💕
