I figured it out over a decade ago. My current setup: LG WH14NS40 flashed to HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_WH16NS60-1.03-NM00600-212005081010. I use my paid-for MakeMKV to rip to .MKV files, and I play using MPC-BE + Bluesky FRC, on AMD APU (Vega iGPU). I never play the discs directly, although I do have an old Oppo BD player somewhere in the house. MakeMKV keeps the chapter markers and all that for me. No idea why it doesn't work for you.
I like the fancy handmade 3.5" drive adapter. 😂 Why is Win7 superior for BluRay compared to newer Win-Versions? Old integratedGPU without drivers for new Windows versions? What kind of hardware (cpu, ram) does this PC have that you presume updates - even with SP1 - take nearly half a day? 😮
